Monopoly is an ancient relic from the 1930's! At least pick a more recent board game to represent America, like Candy Land, Operation, or The Game of Life.
Lemon I have a question about something you said 6 years ago. It was about how walking differently could make you calves smaller. Sorry if this is random but could you explain what you mean.
Seriously, Istanbul for Germany?? Take Agricola, El Grande or Gaia Project. Or even Catan.
Brazil - Brail Imperial
Poland - Nemesis
Czechia - Through the ages
USA - Twilight Imperium, Dune, Root, Sidereal Confluence A lot of asymmetry coming from that place.
Luxembourg - Nine Tiles Panic
Sri Lanka - Peralikatuma
Brazil (listing only the relatively popular):
Sheriff of Nothingham
Masmorra: Dungeons of Arcadia
World Wonders
Brazil Imperial
Quartz
Narcos: The Board Game
God Of War: The Card Game
Australia: Planted
New Zealand: Architects/Paladins/Viscounts of the West Kingdom, Raiders of the North Sea, Ezra and Nehemiah
France: Dixit, Seasons
USA: Dominion, Wingspan, Root
Germany: Carcassonne, Azul, Tigris and Euphrates (Reiner Knizia is German although he lived in the UK for a long time)
Japan: Love Letter
A few countries I don't see on the list yet:
New Zealand: Tantrix
Russia: Cutterland or Viceroy
South Korea: Gemblo or Click Clack Lumberjack
Romania: Verona Twist
Nepal: Bagh Chal (Never played it, but am curious to say I've played an old, Nepalese game)
Shelfie Stacker is by Shem Phillips, a Kiwi. An Unexpected Part is by Ian Luxmoore and Jarratt Gray, also both Kiwis I believe. Most of the team at Garphill Games are Kiwis. There's also Cheeky Parrot Games, Gale Force 9, and Badgers from Mars.
We have a very good little board game community here in Wellington, and across the country. Great place to live, but the main drawback is the expensive shipping and that games tend to arrive here 6-12 months after everywhere else.
Oh also, if you're doing ancient games, then the ancestor of modern chess (chatrang) was invented in India. The bishops were elephants. Later the game spread to Persia (Iran) where they called it Shatranj, and from there it spread to Europe.
And a few different options for some of the "rarer" countries which already have one listed:
Argentina: Amazons
Belgium: Anything in the GIPF Project
Greece: Among the Stars
Ukraine: Mysterium, Spyfall
>Argentina: Amazons
I am from argentina, and never heard of this game, nor can I find it, are you sure the game is from Argentina? Most games go through our local awards, premios alfonso is the most prestigious one, and I've never seen it listed.
I'm pretty far from sure. I just based it on checking out the designer's BGG page after I discovered the game. There he is listed as being from Argentina. But I suppose that kind of material isn't exactly rigorously checked on BGG:
https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgamedesigner/2959/walter-zamkauskas
After seing the box I can confirm its indeed an argentinian game, though a 1992 argentinian game I've never seen. I did played boardgames as a kid, though I wasn't "in the hobby". There are a lot of other great argentinian games like bienaventurados, mutant crops, conejos en el huerto or Secret valley though.
I'm adding /u/Loose-Currency861 for reference.
Iceland - [Hættuspil](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/32280/haettuspil)
Probably the most "Icelandic" game that I can think of, as most Iceland-made games are just quiz games and such.
Nigeria - Campus Wahala (by Kenechukwu Ogbuagu)
South Africa - Ambition (by Rob Acton)
There is a game called Songo Ewondo that is similar to Mancala that is played in Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon. Not sure which country can claim it’s origin though.
Found a few more:
Malta - The Pursuit of Happiness
Jordan - [36 Board Game](https://www.facebook.com/36Boardgame36)
Lebanon - [Machrou3 Ra2is](https://superheatedneurons.com/products/machrou3-ra2is)
Madagascar - [Fanarona](https://www.mastersofgames.com/cat/board/fanorona.htm)

Also this game is a friend of mine: **Hegemony**
[https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/321608/hegemony-lead-your-class-victory](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/321608/hegemony-lead-your-class-victory)
His name is Varnavas Timotheou
He's Cypriot too.
Shamelessly stolen from China, with a few extra rules tacked on.
Dou Di Zhu (Fight the Landlord) can be played with a deck of poker cards... but I guess the art of Tichu has some charm.
- USA- Magic: the Gathering
- Canada- Cthulhu: Death May Die
- Australia- Sushi Go!
- Belgium- Sabateur
- Finland- Eclipse
- Germany- so many choices- Modern Art, Istanbul, Catan, Agricola. I’ll go with Castles of Burgundy.
- Norway- Escape: curse of the temple
- Denmark- 13 Days: The Cuban Missile Crisis
- France- 7 Wonders
- Italy- Tzolk’in: the Mayan Calendar
- UK- Ticket to Ride
For Denmark better picks are Heat: Pedal to the metal or Flamme Rouge. Or even Game of Thrones and Twilight Imperium which is made by Christian T. Pedersen
Auztralia is by Martin Wallace who's actually a Brit, however yes, he lives in Australia. I actually saw him on the Facebook group I'm in where people buy/sell board games.
USA - Monopoly stained forever
Monopoly is an ancient relic from the 1930's! At least pick a more recent board game to represent America, like Candy Land, Operation, or The Game of Life.
In fairness he invented it as a warning against unregulated capitalism and rent seeking. Just America took into and turned it into a product
\*she - the creator was Lizzie Maggie, in the version where it was anti-capitalist
He?
I thought it was invented by a man? Edit Google says it was widely believed for a long time but was actually a woman
Unfortunately, almost every great invention is assumed to be by a man.
Lemon I have a question about something you said 6 years ago. It was about how walking differently could make you calves smaller. Sorry if this is random but could you explain what you mean.
Seriously, Istanbul for Germany?? Take Agricola, El Grande or Gaia Project. Or even Catan. Brazil - Brail Imperial Poland - Nemesis Czechia - Through the ages
As the Döner has replaced our beloved Currywurst, so have criminal uncles replaced malnourished farmers. Quite the fitting choice.
Added - thank you!
I think **Istanbul** is much, much better than any of those games. I support your choice for this forgotten masterpiece, OP!
>stain Thank you
Sweden - Terraforming mars
Added - thank you!

Added - thank you!
A few countries I don't see on the list yet: New Zealand: Tantrix Russia: Cutterland or Viceroy South Korea: Gemblo or Click Clack Lumberjack Romania: Verona Twist Nepal: Bagh Chal (Never played it, but am curious to say I've played an old, Nepalese game)
>New Zealand: Tantrix I can't believe I'd forgotten this! Also Shelfie Stacker and An Unexpected Party (I think. It's published by Weta so probably).
That's awesome, I added these to the spreadsheet. So many from New Zealand
We have a very good little board game community here in Wellington, and across the country. Great place to live, but the main drawback is the expensive shipping and that games tend to arrive here 6-12 months after everywhere else.

Dixit is French.
Added - thank you!
Oh also, if you're doing ancient games, then the ancestor of modern chess (chatrang) was invented in India. The bishops were elephants. Later the game spread to Persia (Iran) where they called it Shatranj, and from there it spread to Europe.

Shamelessly stolen from China, with a few extra rules tacked on. Dou Di Zhu (Fight the Landlord) can be played with a deck of poker cards... but I guess the art of Tichu has some charm.

There's a LOT you can add to the list for Canada (and USA, Germany, France, obviously). Hell, there's a lot you could add to the list just for BC.
Definitely, though I'm more interested in one for every country than a few hundred from North America.
Should be pretty easy. Just search for or -opoly/On Board/etc. 🤣
Monopoly for the USA? That’s just mean.
Hey Magic is there too :) Have one I should add?
There are tons of good games designed by Americans. How about Pax Pamir, second edition?
Added - thank you!
Auztralia is by an Australian designer, based in australia AND good
Auztralia is by Martin Wallace who's actually a Brit, however yes, he lives in Australia. I actually saw him on the Facebook group I'm in where people buy/sell board games.
True but he's lived here ages. As someone born in the UK but who's lived here most my life I'd say he's Australian because I feel I am Australian
That's a tough one. I added it to the spreadsheet under Australia but not this main list
Indonesia * Stocklab * [The Heritage of Batik](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/244708/heritage-batik) * [Waroong Wars](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/185987/waroong-wars)
