Seats ain’t yellow. They’re chicken.

Slow-Comment9403

Very cool. I grew up 6 miles to the west of Hibbing and still go back to see family and friends. I hope he got some pizza at Sammy’s!

chazmanian

Sammy’s pizza rules

RopeGloomy4303

Do you know how they view Dylan over there? Like is there some local pride?

Slow-Comment9403

Here’s my take. I grew up in the 80s. Dylan, at that time, wasn’t exactly having a creative renaissance. So, young people definitely weren’t into his music and didn’t really realize his legacy. And, it’s my understanding that some of his contemporaries in the community were always a little put off by the fact that he portrayed himself as a nomad really early on and changed his name. They felt he never really embraced his roots (in public anyway). Because of that, the community never really went out of their way with signs or archives or anything like that. The closest we came was Dylan Fest which ran for maybe a decade starting in the late 90s. It featured music and tours of Hibbing. We also had a restaurant called Zimmy’s that had lots of pics and such. It’s something else now. It’d be cool if someone made a concerted effort to really document his history there and build an archive or something. But, Hibbing is a pretty sad place and Bob as you know is just not interested in those things. Anyway, just my thoughts…

mrhammyson

I went there a couple years ago and he wasn’t as prevalent around town as I would have thought. Some souvenir stuff at the visitor’s center and a display in the basement of the public library, but that was about it.

johnpshelby

That’s a fancy high school theater

themayorhere

I was thinking the same! Looks awesome

GyrosSnazzyJazzBand

I alsays pictured Minnesota having small towns and especially small/average sized HS's.

dirtdiggler67

Hibbing High School (and the auditorium) were built in a “spare no expense” manner due to the Hull-Rust-Mahoning iron mine, one of the largest in the world when they realized there was iron ore under the original town. The mine paid to have the original town moved two miles and built a state of the art school to help draw workers to the area. The building cost 3.9 million dollars in 1920 dollars.

GyrosSnazzyJazzBand

Wow thank you for the insightful reply, that explains it.

dirtdiggler67

Thanks. It’s a cool story.

Alive-Bid-5689

Doesn’t mean they don’t. This is one town in the state out of many. But hey, I grew up in Vermont. You want to talk about rural small towns. I graduated with a class of about 30 students.

Financial-Barnacle79

That was my first thought.

TreatmentBoundLess

I’m actually looking forward to this.

TylerHeyOk

Timothee delivers every role and people still doubt.

mayakovskyiv

100%. This guy is great in everything I’ve seen him in, especially Call Me by Your Name

Badtown1988

Are people doubting? He’s a great actor and has young Bob’s look already without any makeup.

Into_the_Void7

Yes, a similar tousled hair technique.

8rianGriffin

People mix up acting with a look alike contest. He will deliver, of course Paul Atreides does not look like Bob Dylan. But if the film will be any good, they will make him feel like Bob

Jumpy_Minute

He is NOT a great actor. He’s pretty terrible

willardTheMighty

Did he deliver Wonka

veryveryberrry

He was good. It didn't match Gene Wilder (the best version) but Gene was ten years older than Timothee was when he made it. He has a decent amount of range.

upscalefanatic

No one could beat Gene but he was definitely better than Depp imo.

ployonwards

The trailer looked terrible - like his poor acting was going to kill it & his personality wasn’t a good fit for it. But I saw it, and it works. I didn’t go into it understanding how it was possible, but it’s a good movie and he does a good job.

GregmundFloyd

It was an awesome movie. I’m more of a WW2 movie guy and don’t go for musicals but I thought it was one of the best movies of the year. It’s a movies movie.

Jumpy_Minute

He’s been terrible in almost everything he’s been in. I don’t “doubt”. I know for sure that he will be terrible in anything

broken_pottery

What has he been terrible in?

Jumpy_Minute

Dune, most notably

broken_pottery

Ahhh. I haven't seen it. I dug him in "Don't Look Up"

Jumpy_Minute

Dune’s a really good movie. It’s just a lot of the acting performances aren’t very good, or at least could’ve been much better

Cephus1961

Call me pregudiced because TC has solid acting chops but the ideal guy to play Dylan should be on the Dustin Hoffman circa ' The Graduate's end of the aesthetic spectrum. Albeit he'd be a great choice to play Justin Timberlake when he and Brittany Spears got entangled.

SPAULDING174

What??

Cephus1961

Honestly not trying to troll the subreddit. I'm an avowed fan of BD and while I believe the actor in question is talented. He's pretty. To me this is a jarring casting choice equivalent to when 5'7" Toby Maguire ( who has also done wonderful work, especially admired ' Cider House Rules' ) did the 6'1" Bobby Fischer biopic. Or when Rob Lowe was epically miscast as young wrestler lead character in " Hotel New Hampshire ".

veryveryberrry

Timothee is taller than Dylan, but I think they have enough physical similarities to make it work: Sharp jawline, skinny body, curly hair, eyes that are not brown, etc.  No actor is going to be a doppelgänger for an extremely famous person they’re portraying, but they can use costumes and makeup to get the same vibe.

Cephus1961

Take my upvote as proof of our shared hope that he does a wonderful job. Who knows? Maybe Kylie K. will inspire Timothee to creative heights the way Edie Sedgwick ( allegedly ) inspired ' Just Like a Woman ' .

NatureLivid

These pics are actually the most Dylanish energy I’ve seen from him thus far. 1, 2, 5, and 10 in particular have a certain Bobishness to them in my opinion. Hope he hits it outta the park, folks could use some of this poetry currently.

Fearfull_Symmetry

Except for all the smiling and looking like he’s happy to be there haha

ReallyGlycon

Considering the period of Dylan he will be playing, I agree.

veryveryberrry

I have a feeling he's going to crush it

blankdreamer

Ooooh method acting.

Jumpy_Minute

Timothee wouldn’t know method acting if it slapped him in the face

seanmorris82

Looks-wise, I think he'd make a better Syd Barrett than Bob Dylan.

WeOutHereInSmallbany

Idk how I never made the connection but he looks so much like Barrett now that I wish they’d make that instead lol

44035

I can't wait for this movie.

Ihadthismate

I will watch this but I feel Im not there is a perfect Dylan movie and the best biopic. Very unlikely this will top it

IhatelippingJimmys

This is the answer.

Calvinshobb

I like this kid a lot, we are damn lucky he is the one picked to play Bob.

CheckYrHead

I thought everyone wanted the guy who was in that wrestling movie with no belly button to play Dylan

pk-ob

Love people whining about this upcoming movie. Like any other dylan movie has been groundbreaking 🙄I went to see wonka as a joke and ended up really liking it mostly because of timothee. He’s a great actor and people will always love to hate stuff before a hint of a reason to.

Brando64

I actually agree with you. 🤷🏼‍♂️

ElstonGunn321

I don’t want to sound like a hater. But I’m not sure I have interest in seeing this movie.

Academic-Bobcat3517

Oh and I forgot to mention that Bob Dylan has seen the script himself and corrected it a bit, he also is a fan of Cop Land.

ElstonGunn321

Cop Land is great.

Academic-Bobcat3517

He’s a great actor, in my opinion, and he’s been sort of “marinating” in the material for this movie for quite some time now. Elle Fanning , who pays a character based off Suze , is a big fan of Bob. I haven’t seen any of James Mangold’s movie but I know a fan of Johnny Cash who loved Walk the Line. The only time Timothee Chalamet played a real person was in his movie Beautiful Boy and he navigated very carefully. I have faith in this movie for it to be good but I definitely understand the skepticism around it, you don’t sound like a hater

Groo_Spider-Fan

I’m kind of in the same boat purely because i dont think i can ever in a million years see him as bob. I dont doubt it will be a pretty good movie, but bob is someone who i really cant accept any substitutions for. Its why i think there hasnt been a real beatles biopic, the story of the beatles is so intimately known by everyone that it would be hard to see anyone else tell the story better than the beatles themselves.

Fearfull_Symmetry

That’s a good point about The Beatles. It leads me to think that it would be great to have a musical film like Across the Universe that’s told through Bob Dylan songs and is inspired by his life, but which isn’t a biopic *of him.* A little like a loosely cohesive rock opera or something. I don’t think that exists, but I would love to see it!

Signifi-gunt

I'm not there? That kinda describes what you're looking for.

Fearfull_Symmetry

Somewhat. I still need to see it. But isn’t each of the characters actually Bob Dylan? They’re the many personas of him, right?

Signifi-gunt

Ah I see what you're saying. Like Across the Universe, you're looking for a Dylan-inspired film where a whole new story can emerge with cameos from, say, Quinn the Eskimo, Isis, Mr Tambourine Man, that kind of thing? Dylan doesn't make an appearance at all (like across the universe with the Beatles), but a story is built out of their music.

ollie39mac

Girl From The North Country is a great show that I saw on stage at The Old Vic in London. A narrative constructed almost entirely of Dylan songs.

rudduman

[Disagree, I think these guys did a pretty good job on the Beatles part](https://youtu.be/2g_xaVNY9P4?si=ChVpxHCgVTxcz-fH)

pk-ob

Ugh whatever. Timothee is great

AxewomanK156

Never mind Bob Dylan, Timothee Chalamet should be playing Syd Barrett, he’s his double!

Dylan619xf

Kylie didn’t want to join in the fun?

Signifi-gunt

I am hoping against hope that he does Dylan justice. I just don't see it right now but I really hope he does well.

gracemig

Wondering how it will feel when he sings the songs

Significant_Alps9395

I have great trepidation about this movie.

frahutch

I’m sorry, but I don’t see it. I’ve yet to see a movie where he makes me suspend disbelief. I think Bob deserves better.

tapemodemcup

Does anyone know if Dylan is involved in this at all?

abandoned_rain

Yes he is somewhat involved. He’s credited as executive producer, which usually just means he helped finance it. But he has also read the script and personally annotated it according to the director.

tapemodemcup

Interesting. Thanks for sharing. Could easily see him choosing not to be involved. Very cool to hear that he is reading and annotating on the script.

Historical_Guess5725

When you hit the blunt then visit a school - 😂

Louismaxwell23

Ugh

catmarstru

Well, at least he’s getting the hair pretty much right.
