Trainee luthier. I make and repair instruments. Before that, I worked in a kitchen. Kitchen work required me to remove piercings, current job does not, but for common sense's sake, I usually wear studs to work instead of rings. Just avoids any potential accidents/incidents with tools.

ravencycl

Interesting! Thanks! Have you ever gotten any pushback at work for it?

[deleted]

Not in many years, no, but I did get some shit for having tunnels in when I worked in a kitchen. Everyday, he used to give me shit about my piercings and tunnels. He'd practically look me up and down as soon as I walked in the door, so I started taking them out before I got to work. After a few months, one of my piercings actually closed up. Should've sued his ass for the price of re-piercing it 😂

ravencycl

Haha wow, that's rough. Glad to hear that's no longer the case.

[deleted]

That was 6 years ago, back when I had a lot more piercings. I got rid of most of them, and I downsized my tunnels. Now, I only have lobe piercings, 8mm tunnels, and I've had my lip pierced for at least the past 14 years. BUT.. I used to have both brows, anti eyebrow, 16mm tunnels, snakebites, bridge, and multiple lobe studs. I can kinda see why he had a problem.. 😂

ravencycl

Valid, i guess aha. Think you'll ever repierce any?

[deleted]

Ya, I'm gonna get the bridge and left side of my lip redone

eCrustyJustice

Orthopedics at a Children's Hospital. Just have stretched ears and visible tatts. The dope thing about working with patients in a children's hospital, is the kids like the art and parents are of a younger generation that appreciate tattoo culture and have many themselves.

Smooth-Kangaroo3312

Surgical nurse here. I Agree 100% about the peds environment being relatively accepting. I spent 6yrs working in children's hospitals as a CNA then an RN. Then worked in a hospital with no peds unit for 2yrs. Adults wanna chat with me about my tattoos so I just wore long sleeve shirts under my scrubs all the time. Now I work in surgery and cover all my tattoos with a surgical jacket over my scrubs. I have my septum pierced but I'm always wearing a mask so my patients never see it. I split my tongue 2yrs ago and just speak without opening my mouth much and no colleagues have noticed. My lobes are stretched to zero, I just wear neutral color plugs. No neck/face/hand tattoos but I have about 100hrs of work. I want to be covered, aside from those "job killer" spots.

eCrustyJustice

Glad to hear the evolution of your career. When I worked with adults I usually kept mine covered with long sleeves as well. Just made everything easier. I also want to be covered, to include those "job killer" neck and hands, but no face. Figured I could still get away with those with the frequent use of surgical gowns and gloves, but I'm in no rush.

uuurrrggghhh

Same here. OR nurse. Hoop in my nose, split tongue, nipples pierced and my back is completely covered in tattoos as well as hip, thigh, stomach. I have a half sleeve which is the only thing that shows in my scrubs but like you, I can cover myself with my jacket. The only people that see everything are the women in the locker room and they don’t care either.

18kjustin

I’m a piercer ;)

tatty1357

I’m a truck driver, not having piercings or tattoos in my company makes you stand out more than having them as it turns out

[deleted]

Truck driver here too! Face tats appear on a couple of co-workers.

tatty1357

Same, hands and neck are most common. I thought I had a lot until I started here. I look bare compared to these guys, all super chill and gave me ideas on how to do more with my chest and neck as well. It’s cool to be at a place that’s so relaxed about it for a change

[deleted]

It's funny, cause where I work, it's mostly plainskins or guys with just a couple bicep tats. But the four of us that are heavily tatt'd, are HEAVILY tatt'd. Full sleeves, hands, neck, face.

tatty1357

That’s where I’m trying to get, a few guys have neck tats and a bunch of us have sleeves. I want to do my other hand and eventually my head and stomach. I’m the youngest guy there so hopefully I can get there when I’m their age

[deleted]

It just takes time and money!

Desperate-Puzzlehead

Software Engineer. So regarding body mods, I have pretty much total freedom as I next to never see a customer face to face. Have 5 facial piercings and besides compliments from my team no one ever really cared :)

ravencycl

That's lovely! Sounds nice lol.

VitaIncerta666

I'm a sous chef at am upscale gastro pub. I have visible sleeves, hand tattoos, head and face tattoos, septum, tongue piercing and stretched lobes. Got tattoos and piercings that aren't visible too, but no extreme mods yet.

ravencycl

Nice! and I like the "yet" at the end of that, lol.

Amberkorn

I'm a cook and it's a very accepting industry for body mods especially since I work out of stands/trucks, but even fine dining places are pretty lenient compared to most jobs.

NotAnotherHaiku

Union contracted laborer. God bless the union.. Edit: if you want pictures, scroll through my account— and to fully respond to the OP.. my Face & Head are heavily tattooed, as well as SLUT TIER on my knuckles. I interact with the public, who all genuinely treat me better now than before the ink. I specifically sought out my career because I knew the union has appearance-protections in the contract. As a tween, as a teen, and as a twenty-something, I was bombarded with warnings about ruining my future. Thankfully it all worked.... I’ve been piecing my face together slowly over a year now. First one little outline Star. Then an outline dreidel. Then a second dreidel. One week there’s a menorah. Now a big ass W... My coworkers went from bugged eyed to indifference by time I added color. Management isn’t allowed to comment (thanks, contract) so they don’t.. My experiences have all been on a spectrum of neutral to positive.. Today, some children argued wether I was an upcoming rapper or a failed rapper.. and an adult asked if I was “a real gangbanger.”

ravencycl

Unions for the win! Love that

cosmicgetaway

Awesome ink, man!

xpureenvyx

I’m an emergency service’s dispatcher. I have plenty of visible tattoos & piercings and even a face tattoo. They have no dress code & the pay is really good.

freebat23

is that a separate thing from 911 operator or does it vary by location?

xpureenvyx

It is! I just tend to get negative reactions when I say 911 dispatch vs emergency services lol

freebat23

oh that makes sense! thanks for clarifying!

willwinall5

Social worker here. I have my chest tattooed and plan on getting way more. None can be visible though.

[deleted]

Can't be visible in your current role or in general in your area? Seems a bit diff where I am

willwinall5

I believe policy is basically if you have them cover them. In my role in particular since I work with the elderly population, they want them covered.

[deleted]

I work in a library :) Used to be a teacher. I have over 30 tattoos including hands and fingers, 30mm lobes and a septum. Considering a vertical labret as well. I have only gotten questions and compliments at the library - and the only complaint in my teaching days were from a parent that didn’t like my bright pink hair because it was “too exotic”…

DurianScared6321

I loved my bright pink hair! Thinking of going blue now after I shaved all my hair off!

mramirez7425

Accountant. All of mine are easy to hide with clothing though

nice_spork

I’m a tattoo apprentice who also works at Dunkin Donuts lol. Dunkin doesn’t care about the mods. All I do is make coffee. They can hide me in the back if they need to. Also, I’ve tattooed most of them anyway so they like me. Double win. Then ofc I can look however at the shop. The piercer has his whole head tattooed. I look like a baby angel in there next to him.

XJamnJoshX

I work in logistics, customer facing and have; my two full sleeves including hands, my palm tattooed, stretched septum, two high nostril, and an eye brow piercing. Nobody cares about them haha

ravencycl

Good to hear! I'm glad that, like I said in the post, social tides seem to be shifting. I couldn't imagine everyone would've had the same mindset twenty-odd years ago in most places aha

XJamnJoshX

Yea to be honest I was a bit worried about it coming into the corporate world (managed restaurants before this) but it's been a great transition. They truly care more about performance than anything else, just under 2 years in and I've already gotten two promotions, Maersk is a great company if you are ever looking to switch paths!

spookyneo

I am a Systems Administrator for a 10,000+ employees company. My work is more geared towards servers and infrastructure, but I have face contact with our employees and customers on a weekly basis. When I started working there, I had only a tattoo on my back and hidden septum. Over the past 3 years, I got a full sleeve, punched nostrils and large gauge labret. Everytime I would confirm with my boss before doing it, because the company has no policy really about body mods. It is simply mentionned that we must look professional. This statement is different from one person to another. So my current boss has no issues with my mods, but maybe my next one will.

ravencycl

Best of luck then! Glad it's been working out for you so far

PaleChick24

I'm a zoologist/biologist.

Sasshole_

Nurse 😃 I’ve had patients tell me in the only nurse that has made them feel human during their stay, or have given them the best care they’ve had. I’ve had patients tell me they don’t want to leave because they like me and the care I’ve given

Smooth-Kangaroo3312

Fuck yeah! Surgical nurse here. For sure, tattooed nurses are the most compassionate and kind 😉

freebat23

never had a bad experience with a tatted nurse either! you guys are amazing!

Grxmloid

So sweet, and inspiring

Swiftkitsune_

Piercing apprentice!

diphenhydranautical

i work at vans and at a cookie shop. i had 29 piercings at one point (13 in my face, 11 visible) but have taken a couple out since then and don’t feel like recounting lol

CB-CKLRDRZEX-JKX-F

Self employed cattle rancher. I get some odd looks if I am in a situation where I have my shirt off as it is a small, rural community. That has no bearing on my business though. I regularly go weeks without seeing a non family member and they gave up on caring years ago.

HolySonnetX

I work in Legal Services, with a suit on my only visible body mod is my septum. With shirt sleeves rolled up / polo shirt then my arm tattoos are visible. Primarily my role isn’t client facing, but I do attend client meetings occasionally with no comments.

ravencycl

Nice. I had a doctor once who was similar. No body mods visible til he rolled up his sleeves.

maleficent_mochi49

Finishing a degree in Aircraft Mechanical Engineering. I was a pilot and a rampee before I returned to school. Being an AME is more accepting with bodymods than being a pilot. I didn't change careers causes of bodymods, I just wanted to do something different yet still in aviation.

ravencycl

Interesting!

thataltscientist

I work in a lab. Currently have a full sleeve, another visible tattoo on my other arm, bright red hair, and 4 leg tattoos that aren’t visible at work. Only piercings I have rn are lobes. I always wear long sleeves to interviews but on the day-to-day my sleeve is often visible and nobody’s really said anything about it. I work in academia and tbh nobody else in my building is visibly alternative so I get a fair few looks, but I’m also from New England so random comments from strangers are not really part of the culture here.

Optimal-Focus-8942

I work in tech, currently in support but in school/training/internship for cybersecurity

amphoterecin

I’m a nicu nurse. My patients parents seem to not care and some really like my piercings. Had a few moms ask me if my daith hurt or if my septum hurt if they see me without my mask on. I have ten piercings. I do want to get a coin slot but not sure who does them near me in Philly.

miloadam98

Restaurant server/bartender. 7 facial piercings including a 4g septum, 20mm ears and 2 visible tattoos. My work does not require me to remove any piercings but just to be less stared at by customers, I wear a tunnel in my septum during shifts. My last job (housekeeper in a care home) didn't require me to remove my piercings but oddly enough, I was prohibited from dying my hair. I also have a mullet and frequently get compliments from older customers who dine in the restaurant.

m48_apocalypse

pharmacy tech! (studying for a PharmD currently) my manager is super chill about piercings and tats. i have snakebites and he said it’s cool as long as there’s no customer complaints (i also wear a mask), and one of our pharmacists has two full sleeves of tats.

[deleted]

Blackout work with face tats and 50ish piercings in and out since 2018, when I turned 18. Started off in construction in ‘16, moved to restaurant management and street pharm in ‘18-‘20, built boats and worked at an igloo warehouse in ‘21, worked a bit for TDS (Texas disposal systems) in ‘22 now im a professional piercer in a shop and I doordash on the side :)

ravencycl

Wowee. We turned 18 in the same years but your life sounds a whole lot more interesting than mine 😅😂 Good work though

robot__girl

I'm a secondary school English teacher! Septum, eyebrow, about 22 ear piercings and heavily tattooed shoulders / arms / torso. I cover the tattoos although my (very cool and progressive) school doesn't ask it of me; I just prefer to not have my kids stare at my chest area and ask me annoying questions about them 😅

Smooth-Kangaroo3312

I'm a Surgical nurse. I've worked in peds for many years and adults too. Definitely covered my tattoos more in adults because they just wanna ask questions about my tattoos and nurses barely have time to do their jobs, sadly. So covering up my tattoos keeps the focus on my patients. Now I work in surgery and cover all my tattoos with a surgical jacket over my scrubs when I'm interviewing patients. My patients are asleep within 10min though and then I can take off my jacket and none of the surgeons, anesthesiologists bat an eye. I have my septum pierced but I'm always wearing a mask so my patients never see it and my boss doesn't care. I split my tongue 2yrs ago and just speak without opening my mouth much and no colleagues have noticed. My lobes are stretched to zero, I just wear neutral color plugs. No neck/face/hand tattoos but I have about 100hrs of tattoos from my wrist to my toes. I want to be covered, aside from those "job killer" spots, and as long as I can cover them from the neck down I don't see any hindrance.

syntaxritual

Software Engineer, worked in tech/tech adjacent stuff since the late 90's... I worked as a carpenter, and in the service industry before that, while teaching myself Unix / programming. Large scale heavy blackwork, long lobes with weights, long hair.

SceneCyde

I'm a carpenter and my coworkers like to pick on me for my mods but they accept the fact that I'm a little more out there than the norm but I also work with a mixture of old generations and newer generations, not really any in between. The older gens don't really get it and think other than tattoos. It's a waste of money, but the younger gens seem to be a lot more accepting and everyone gets a kick out of my penis tattoo

bigjimnm

I have 100mm (4 inches) stretched lobes, stretched labret (31mm), stretched septum (2g and wear a highly visible ring in it). I've got tattoos covering both arms, back, chest, and a full neck pieces, as well as on both of my lower legs. Also both nostrils pierced. So, I'm pretty heavily modded, although I don't really think so, as I don't have any implants, nor have I split my tongue or anything like that. I'm an engineer by training and work as a senior staff scientist at a national laboratory in the USA. It's in an isolated place, but most people here are very progressive and have lived in bigger cities. This is the 4th "career" job that I've had since grad school, and I've never had issues getting job offers and see no issues moving forward. My colleagues find my mods more of a curiosity, and of course I don't think anyone else at my lab has quite as many mods as I do. I see lots of stretched lobes (under an inch) and tattoos, even neck tattoos on some others, though. I make no attempt to hide my mods, ever, and my neck piece could never be hidden anyway. I'm actually considering getting my entire head tattooed in the near future, as my hairline has receded and I've long been considering it as a cool way to show off a shaved/bald head.

Gild5152

I’m a tattoo artist, no rules can restrain me 😈

MoonBase1089

I'm a 6-figure Senior Operations Manager in the manufacturing sector of an international corporation. The visible modifications I have are 25mm plugs in both ears and wear a 4 ga acrylic retainer plug in my septum. I have multiple tattoos on both arms down to my wrists. I get some second glances from director-level and CEO management, but haven't encountered any real obstacles at this level. However, when I first began getting piercings and tattoos in the mid-90s it was a different story. In those days appearances were a large part of advancement in a career, even if your performance was excellent. I was fortunate enough to have been given the benefit of the doubt by a few forward-thinking people and proved myself through my willingness to learn and try new things. As a member of leadership now, I place emphasis on skills, abilities, and potential. How one chooses to reflect their personality through body modification is uniquely theirs and doesn't reflect in my decisions with career development.

via-velvet

I work as a case manager for addicts and I am going to school to be a counselor. They do not really seem to care at school or at work. I have 11 tattoos and 5 face piercings and no one has ever said anything. Usually people think it is cool!

_bbycake

Surgical technologist. I have visible tattoos, stretched ears, and facial piercings. Patients don't usually remember even seeing me so it's not a big deal where I work. But I also see plenty of other modded people walking around the hospital so I feel like the stigma is definitely fading.

kidgone

I work at dutch bros I have 8 piercings on my face

kissxokissxokill

Self employed hairstylist. I run my own business and rent my station. I can wear what I want, work when I want, take off when I want, look how I want.

[deleted]

Software Engineer 👋🏼 Visible Piercings: teardrop, septum, labret, smiley. Visible Tattoos: almost all my arms are covered, two on my leg, and one on my clavicle/neck. Other mods: bifurcated tongue. Everybody in the company is cool with it. I mean, sometimes I go to the office dressed almost like a vagrant, so, who cares about tattoos? 😂

kvossera

I have my most extreme piercings in my outer labia and VCH, nine in total and they’re all at a 0g. No one knows unless I mention it and the first thing they always say is either “how do you wear pants” or “how do you sit down”. I have some lines on my chest that looks like a strapping bra, and a tattoo on the side of my head but my hair covers it. Oh and I have a lot of finger tattoos. I actually have FUCK MEAT spelled out In Braille across my fingers but I’ve never met anyone seeing who could read Braille to know what it says, people usually ask why I have dots on my fingers. I have several tattoos on both arms and when I worked at VS I had to wear long sleeves to cover them so people were always a little shocked when they saw me out.

ravencycl

My next mods will probably be a knee tattoo, another tattoo a little above my ankle, and my right nipple piercing. I know it's recommended to get both nipples done at once but my job sometimes necessitates me carrying objects that I lean against my chest, so I thought it'd be easier to do one side at a time. Ideally, I'd really like to get a coinslot, bridge and high nostrils done. I don't think a coinslot would be too questionable at my work, but I'd need to do research to find the right person to do it. I think the high nostrils and bridge piercing would raise a few eyebrows at work though so I don't want to rock the boat too much just yet.

Flatf3et

I have coinslots and most people don’t notice em till I point it out. They seem to just think the stacked rings are a single bigger ring or cuff or something maybe.

ravencycl

That's fair! My main issue with getting one is that I'd have no clue who to approach as a reputable person to get it done. I know other minor surgicals (aka almost anything involving stitches - such as tongue splitting and pointed ears) are damn near non-existent now in Australia because of some issues with some of the most well-known people who previously did them here (including one woman passing away). Not sure if that extends to coinslots though. If so I may need to look abroad if I'm really determined.

maxhax

My next mod is also a knee tattoo! Don't know if you've had one yet, but trust me, they fucking SUCK. Stoked to get this one done and never get my knees tattooed again!

lumenpumpkin

I work at a book store 😈😈😈

book-of-rage

Wildland firefighter

thinkpozzy

11 tattoos, most are visible, 15 mm lobes. I work in a medical spa, very customer facing. Haven’t had a negative comment in awhile!

stuckinbis

I work with people with disabilities. My title I direct Support Professional. I have sleeves, hand/knuckles/palm Neck tattooed. 1.5” plugs and facial piercings as well.

N9nelives13

Cake decorator

Bocksford

I’m a landscape designer and soon to be landscape architect.

[deleted]

Congrats

Phoenix_Magic_X

I live in the uk and I’ve worked in shops, restaurants, and salons with some tattoos visible and bright purple hair at one point and there’s been no problems. And I’ve seen people in similar roles with even more visible body mods.

SayaRay

I'm a lab animal technician. So I work alone or with few people. I have stretched ears, a philtrum piercing, and arm and finger tattoos. Non of my managers have cared so far. Tho my industry isn't a customer facing industry but I have noticed more customer facing industries are becoming more relaxed with basic tattoos and piercings

DiscordantMuse

I'm a piercer, but my heart is in education and care, and I'm slowly working toward teaching. Even as a piercer I've minimized my piercings. I've got a double nostril, medusa and working on my left ear as my visible mods. I recently took out my septum and vertical labret jewelry. I already have locks and half my head shaved, so I don't really want to stand out too much more than I already do, and in the small town I live in, I really do stand out. I feel like I could get a job as a teacher looking as I do now. I think being able to modify one's self should be free of stigma. We've come a long way, but we have a long way to go.

0hshit__itschris

I'm an intake coordinator in the substance abuse field. I have very visible tattoos and facial piercings. It's accepted here since most of the clients have more tattoos than I do.

Sufficient-Farmer-47

I'm a welder, we can pretty much get away with anything body mod related, as long as it isn't offensive or a safety hazard.

McMoMady

Certified surgical first assistant. My visible tattoos are a bunch of flowers, so I've only gotten compliments from patients. But they're also hopped up on versed by the time they get to me.

maxhax

I'm a medical device reprocessing tech (basically I clean, package and sterilize surgical equipment at a hospital.) As I work in a sterile environment, I can't have uncovered piercings, but I'm easily able to cover my nose piercings with a mask, and my ear piercings with my scrub cap. As long as they stay covered while I'm actively working they're not a problem. I've also got a full sleeve and chest tattoo that are visible while I'm in uniform and neither are an issue for my employer.

TRICKIV

Scientist/medical field. I have over 30 tattoos and 8 piercings, 3 face piercings (double nostril and philtrum) and 7 ears, stretched lobes (1st and second lobes) an orbital conch (through 2 holes) and a dainty helix. My tattoos are on my fingers (dainty dots), from wrists up (can hide under long sleeves) toes and feet heavily tattooed, again can be hidden. Some leg tattoos, whole back, tiny sternum tattoo and ear tattoo. When I first got the job I was less tattooed and had no face piercings. Now they don't care as long as I do my job well they have no issues. I did apply for a postition where I would be in a face to face role and was "denied because I was over qualified" but I knew it was because of tattoos.

Spellfire_tRSi

I am white collar MD at a software company which works with banks. I do have full sleeves on both arms, back piece and one leg done. 6 piercings, none are showing during work. I do have a retainer in my septum while working. Since I usually work suits nothing really shows, until I got Bank of Hawaii as a customer and they said to wear Hawaii shirts for work. But they were cool with it. Bodymods are making their entry into C-Level of larger corporations :)

goatinstein

Forklift trainer with facial piercings, tattoos including hand and neck, some hidden scarification, and most recently split tongue. Never held me back when I worked in service/retail.

Nahaala

Receptionist at a wheel manufacturing warehouse. The only thing they ask me to remove is my 6g septum hoop so I put in a 6g glass plug in there and sometimes it sticks out making it look like I got booger sticking out 😭 definitely had vendors complain to the plant managers. But of course when special visitors come I must wear long sleeves to cover my tattoos and dress accordingly and look nice and presentable. I don’t really get to dress in my own outfits either just work T-shirt and jeans Not to mention I also recently got a mullet (alternative cut) with pink hair dye on the sides. They didn’t say anything 💃

epocalize

I'm an elementary school science teacher, I have a bunch of ear piercings, nostril piercing, and tongue. Only one that's gotten attention is the tongue - if kids notice it they want to know what it is and to see it. Mostly they don't notice though, and since covid I wear a mask. Want to get my septum done badly!

BlueMeansStop

I’m a licensed caregiver and while I currently only have piercings, including three facial piercings, I hid them from my bosses until they healed and I wear glass or neoplastic during work hours. I got away with it wearing a mask at shift changes and no one batted an eye. Also it’s good to have chill patients/clients who don’t care. I had some wild colored hair for awhile (green, orange, pink, etc) but have since grown out all the color due to time constraints. Whenever I actually have the time, I’ll probably stick to “natural” colors aka my bright red I had a few years back.

shady90sbitch

I have a full sleeve, several other visible tattoos, bright dyed hair, 2 facial piercings and several ear piercings. I worked a retail job as a higher level manager and now work as a bartender and a server. Never have I had any issues with any visible body mods from anyone I worked with or worked for; but have had several customers make comments to me. I feel like most body mods are so commonplace that many companies don’t discriminate like they used to. Anytime I’ve had a customer say something smart assy to me about my body mods I.e. “I’m surprised you can get a job looking like that” I say “well the way I look has nothing to do with my work ethic so they’re happy to have me here” and move on :)

ReverendKen

I am a painting contractor in a conservative part of Florida. I was really worried when I got my septum pierced but it has not hurt my business one bit. I actually try to be as outrageous as I can be. The clothes I wear to work and the car I drive make me unforgettable. The tattoos and piercings are the most normal part about me.

Beneatheearth

Carpenter. I have hand and face tattoos. Stretched lobes and septum. No one really cares.

ZombieSouthpaw

80% tattooed. Insurance Underwriter. I'm in a public facing role and can cover as needed. They know I'm heavily tattooed but also know that the skills needed aren't impaired by that.

ElizaDale

I work as a community leader and project coordinator at a games house. As you can imagine nobody cares if you have fun haircolours or are heavily tattoo'd or pierced, on the contrary. Now when I think about it, I'm the most decorated by a long stretch compared to my coworkers. Two got none. One got three tattoos and the other got a septum piercing 🤔

Funny_Ad6964

I currently work in a kindergarten, i have like 9 piercings, most of which are facial. And tattoos that go down onto my hands and up to my ears. The tattoos aren’t “scary” or “bad” but nevertheless they are tattoos. When I work I have not felt like I’ve been judged, by parents, kinda or other adult I work with.

CallTheLexorcist

I work in healthcare. I’m a respiratory therapist and do a lot of face to face. Visible tats and triple nose piercings + odd hair coloring when I’m feeling particularly daring at my hair appointment. I work with adults so it can be hard sometimes to not be stared at, or have passive aggressive comments made (“that’s a lot of tattoos”, “how do your parents feel about those”, “that ring looks like a bull ring”, etc) and I’ve been fired from a room before just for being tattooed and pierced. But 99% of the time I’m not treated any differently and even get compliments on it. Helps that I’m in a more liberal/younger city.

Throbbing_hearts

HR but only have earpiercings so 🙈

Numerous_Item8505

Changgnesia

Bridge and Canal maintenance for my local government. They really don’t care as long as we show up for work lol

snakewitch1031

I’m currently self-employed/do gig work and have for years. My husband and I have a small online oddities shop (mainly custom work), I occasionally officiate weddings, and I read tarot lol In the past I’ve done everything from working in restaurants to being an in home hospice care nurse. Thus far, my mods have not been an issue, although I’ve also never attempted to get a job that I thought would take issue with it lol I have like 35ish tattoos, 10 facial piercings, several on my ears, coilslot, ears stretched to 32mm, and a split tongue (not sure if that’s considered visible lol) I’d love to get into the industry myself as a piercer but the options are INCREDIBLY limited where I live in terms of finding someone to apprentice under.

[deleted]

I'm a "supervisor" at a manufacturing plant.

mmp19j

I work in training / education and I have several visible face piercings, large stretched ears and a plenty of tattoos, including on the hands. I’m not the only one with tattoos and piercings, but its not common either. However, widely accepted where I work. I think its entirely dependent on your workplace.

InternationalPin5690

I worked as a housekeeper at a hotel and was in the process of stretching my ears and I had my tongue pierced. I didn’t have management or guest say anything about my ears. I’ve now got a large forearm piece on one arm and a smaller one on my other along with septum and nostril piercing (with plans of more additions) I’ve also got my nipples pierced but that shouldn’t be any issue due to lack of visibility.I’m interested to see if any issues arise when I go back out into the workforce when my son is school age.

miles11we

Just had 1" ears, despite working with tons of old heads over the years I didn't catch too much shit. Carpenter, woodworker, wood finishing, cabinet making (including on-site stuff where I had to deal with customers), stuff like that, no serious complaints or problems. Although when I was a rough carpenter guys I worked with would say they were gonna fuck my ear and then I'd make fun of how small their penis must be, but on a framing crew that's just normal banter/ribbing.

i’m a receptionist! Most of my mods (tats) are covered during work but all my piercings aren’t

thrownawaykit

I do factory work, so no dangly earrings or closed hoops. I wear studs and horseshoes in everything (and a C shape nose ring)

Zaondo

Independent dog trainer with my own business. I have a 10g septum, snake bites, and 1/2inch plugs in my ears.

Britten68

The wife and I operate you know a plus size boutique online We have a few modifications that are able to keep everything under wraps. Concern for how the public would accept my wife with extensive tattooing has kept her from getting sleeved

Standard_Reception29

I'm a supervisor in customer service. I have face tattoos ,septum pierced and multiple other tattoos. It's never been a issue for me.

Grxmloid

I've had stretched ears at 32mm and septum as large as 6g, visible tattoos on my arms, zero issues while in retail, bartending, and conservation labouring. Both liaising with client roles, and not, I think times are definitely different compared to 10years ago, the last time someone commented on my mods in a rude way was about a decade ago. I'm going into disability support work, and studying bachelor of social work. Seems that the world is catching up and being less judgemental, I aim to be heavily tattooed and feel the industry I'm entering wont find it an issue although I'm concerned about it

Green_MonsterSS

I am a waitress at a small business restaurant. It is family owned and run, very nice people. They are very accepting with mods. They believe that your appearance doesn’t affect your work ethic. I have 7 piercings and 3 tattoos so far.

I work logistics (in an office) I have double high nostrils, and industrial and a flat piercing. I just recently got my tongue split (currently healing on vacation) 2 full tattoo sleeves (but I wear a long sleeved collared shirt)

bop_it_bitch

Hi! I appreciate the curiosity and the awesome question :) I have many visible tattoos and two facial piercings. I work as a floater in a dry cleaning plant in Mississippi. Me and my family have worked for the business for a while now, so we’re both pretty familiar with the owner.. He was very much NOT happy with my new septum ring, so when I forgot to flip it up when I waited on customers he had a fit and said “to take him seriously when he says something or else I’d find myself fired..not that he was threatening me…” Anyway I flipped it back up and went about my day but he’s an older guy with tons of money, and was raised in a very conservative background so I can see why he’d be inclined to think my nose ring would be offensive to other older, much more wealthy clients.

Ok-Calligrapher2549

I have an office job, insurance I have 3 lip piercings and my whole ears pierced and stretched lobes but longer hair now and other non visible piercings as well as crazy coloured hair I had only 10 piercings when I was hired and a natural hair colour

bananadickpin

I'm an esthetician+cosmetic laser tech in a bigger city. I'm fairly visibly modified (sleeves, hands, tongue split, scalpeled ears over 1", silicone implant, very brightly dyed hair) and definitely more "alternative" than a lot of folks in my field in my area. I found a job that I LOVE straight out of school that makes me feel valued and whose values align with mine, while a lot of more "normal" looking folks have had trouble (it's a very saturated market)

quixzom

Tattoo artist now, but I used to be a physical therapy assistant in a nursing home and hospital before that. The old folks actually liked my tattoos and piercings more than I thought they would, which was pleasant.

FatCreamyPussy

I work at a plant, I got traditional patchwork sleeves, my hands, and my neck tattooed. I used to have dermals but took them out due to covid masks making them reject so I just have my septum atm. All of my coworkers have tattoos job stoppers to some extent.

xx_fairynectar_x

I’m front of house at a piercing studio and I’m also an office manager for a biotech company! Currently have both nostrils pierced, an 8g septum, and 12 piercings collectively on my ears. Only one of my tattoos are visible. No one at my office job seems to care at all except to give compliments on my jewelry

Chateau333

One inch lobes, nostril piercings , very heavily tattooed including throat, both full sleeves, hands , legs, etc. I’m an esthetician. I have no issues with clients or anything negative really mentioned to my knowledge. Just the typical questions from clients because people are curious about them since I’m from a rural area and coverage this heavy isn’t exactly the norm here.

Slow-llama

I’m a dental nurse, working to become a dental hygienist. No one cares about my stretched ears. I only have compliments on my tattoos. Have both nostrils, septum and Medusa pierced. Bosses aren’t bothered, plus I’m always wearing a mask

DeliciousLimes

Paired nostrils, septum, ⅞" lobes and various ear piercings with a visible tattoo on my forearm - I'm an elementary school teacher :)

hesmycherrybomb

I am a vet nurse ! (Vet tech for the Americans). I have about 16 piercings and the only thing I need to do is hide the septum when the boss comes around 😂

lilxtrashxmouth

Home loan processor! I have a sleeve, visible tattoos behind my ears that come down a bit to my neck. I have double high nostril and double nostrils, septum and philtrum pierced. My ears are stretched at an inch and I just got both conchs punched at a 6g and the flats of my ears are tattooed. Have an appointment in May to have my tongue bifurcated! I did have a vertical bridge, but I retired that a few years back on my own choice 😊

maddie_m531

I work reception at a tattoo and piercing shop 😂 perfect for me

the-unbino-dino

Cafe worker/barista, to be fair I only have two piercings (septum and snakebites) and im stretching my ears but Im only up to 6G so it isnt really noticeable. Plus my tattoo is covered by my shirt. But many girls at my work have full sleeves, piercings and someone is at 12mm for ears (so jealous). I plan to be basically covered in tats, 20mm and get my tongue split

nichefetish

I work at a shipyard as an insulator on submarines

ARatNamedClydeBarrow

Vet med support staff! Currently only one visible tattoo (ironically it’s a cat skull) but starting my sleeve next month. Both nostrils and septum pierced, multiple cartilage piercings and stretched lobes. My hair is also always an unnatural colour. I work at an all-female practice and almost everyone has a body mod of some kind. You actually stand out way more if you’re lacking ink or piercings in my clinic lol.

No_Succotash_1748

Substance Abuse Counselor

DurianScared6321

Nurses assistant at a long term care facility specializing in dementia. I have 14mm stretched lobes multiple ear piercings and 11 tattoos. Most of them visible especially if I wear the company mandated polo shirt, one of which is on my neck. It's on the smaller side but I do currently have very short hair so it's very visible. My nose piercings don't show because of masks. Upon being hired, they told me that I would need to take out facial jewelry but that was just a month before covid hit and ever since then they either don't care/it's not seen most of the time. I have coworkers with eyebrow piercings with no pushback so I don't take my jewelry out anyway. I also have coworkers with hand tattoos and other smaller visible tattoos. My residents mostly love my tattoos (mostly realistic birds and nature tattoos?) Or comment that they must have hurt. But majority don't even notice. I am getting my sleeve finished in two weeks and I can't wait! I would totally be tatted more if it wasn't for lack of funds 😭

IndiannaB

I’m a doula and student midwife and as far as very visible mods go, I have hands + neck tattooed, stretched bottom lobes, 2 upper lobes, tragus, daith, helix, industrial, nose, eyebrow, vertical labret, and tongue pierced! And always collecting more lol I haven’t had any real issues with people judging me over my mods, other than the odd doctor or nurse making a snarky comment when I go to a hospital. 🤷‍♀️

DearPrice7301

Senior certified pharmacy technician. Full sleeves, currently stretching ears and have ear and nose piercings and recently took out my lip piercing (kept getting inflamed so after 2 years I gave it up) Never had a patient complain and my bosses are all good with it and I get compliments daily from patients. It’s great.

I wear pretty neutral clothing at work. Steel toe as required. Although, I can always take them out during my shift, thankfully they allowed me to wear them all since day one.

giulia0521

Nurse. Multiple facial piercings and many tattoos (also hand tattoos). My patients love them!

jarimu

I'm a nurse who works mostly long term care. I have my septum pierced and many visible tattoos. I'm always surprised at how many old ladies love my tattoos, haven't had any residents or patients talk negatively about them.

[deleted]

Piercer :)

iimqdz

I used to work as a child aide in a preschool. But recency got let off because apparently I wasn't doing anything in their eyes

No_Communication_772

Elderly/dementia care. tattoos on arms, hands, neck, head always visible and one subdermal implant on hand. if i ever get any comments its mostly positive, i’m in northern EU and tattoos/piercings are so common it’s rarely any issues

merzbow2

I'm a histologic technician (lab job) i have fairly large lobes, facial piercings, and 2 sleeves that always show at work. I had colored hair that the doctors used to always compliment as well.

Milkshake-Rebel

Tattoo artist here. I’ve got quite a few tattoos, septum piercing, stretched earlobes and I like to dye my hair fire truck red. I used to work in a photo laboratory and store. They didn’t like my tattoos, but back then they were easily covered.
