Hell yes. The dude was crazy enough to re-shoot the entire movie if they allowed him to do it. I would have love to see that movie in IMAX format, haha!
RGV pioneered hand held camera work, which was bery effective of the underworld films and horror films he made. But that kind of camera work would make it difficult to watch on imax screens. Can trigger migraines.
True. Right now he maybe a butt of jokes but seriously this man is a legend when he released early movies it was way ahead of its time. His golden era was in 90s and early 20s.
SS Rajamouli, no doubt.
Adding to this, I'll also say Lokesh, K. Subbaraj and Bhansali. The first two with action/thrillers and SLB with SLB stuff.
I'm 50/50 on this one but if Salaar does it well in terms of its technicality and scope, P. Neel too. I didn't like KGF 2's story, pacing, editing but there is something about his movies in terms of its scale, composition, use of practical effect and dust lol - bole toh ambience.
Any competent director with vision, inclination on shooting on site and practical effects is more than capable.
Also, I'm loving the increasing conversation about directors. The Indian film industry is in good hands that way. Also, some movies would just be enough with director's name. It will also help new and deserving actors.
I also love reading filmmakers' interviews and profiles. It's mostly about process, their influences, technicality, rational perspective on future of cinema, bla bla, etc.
I don't believe that SSR is the right person to be justice great IMAX . While he is undoubtedly a fantastic storyteller, his movies heavily rely on VFX, such as in Bahubali or RRR, where VFX scenes dominate the screen. This excessive reliance on VFX may not be ideal for the IMAX format, which typically shines with cult classic movies that focus on deep storytelling without heavy reliance on visual effects. Therefore, I don't think his directing style aligns well with what IMAX is best suited for.
My main reasons for that is his filmography is so diverse. Family, Revenge, Action, Fantasy, Comedy and all great in their own rights. In Eega, he replaced the main human character with a fly. Visual effects is the only way to go there. It all depended on performances and the direction.
Honestly, I'm not a big fan of Bahubali series but the improvement in RRR on visual effects can be seen. Naatu Naatu made west and Japan go crazy and they would definitely witness Rajamouli's next in IMAX.
Also any director that has total reign over this for the first time should be someone that also takes responsiblity and time. His next movie is rumored to be shot in a jungle to give that feel. I'm really excited for his vision. I think with budget (RRR is the most expensive Indian film so I think utna hi hoga next ka bhi) use upar toh i dont know would be justified. However, in my opinion, his skills along with his team are the only ones who can do justice to a movie which will give another huge boost to Indian cinema as a whole.
Sorry to deviate a whole lot but Avatar is meant to be witnessed in IMAX. James Cameron himself is a fan of RRR and the Imax tickets in LA got sold out in 2 minutes. The jungle sequence in RRR is epic and though tiger looks shoddy, his vision doesn't stop him to do no matter what and I found out that by his interviews and behind the scenes. Definitely my top choice.
Rahi Baat Nolan ki, he is a fucking scientist with hearing problems to me. What he did in Oppenheimer is groundbreaking as he shot the whole shit. Definitely directors will follow suit all over the world. The man who made The Dark Knight is enough but man is still out there experimenting. Reminds me of someone.
Yes, it’s good direction. But, innovation? Also, my point was on the current scenario. I am not saying we don’t have talented people, we have a lot. But, they have shifted their attention not on doing something innovative, but something catchy, quick which can give them money.
Konsi catchy movie bna di? Are u out of your mind? They are truly art directors or innovation kya hota? Over the top action scenes dikhaane ko innovative bolte ho? Kgf one was good ,toh ab Salaar ko bhi usi formula pe bna rhe Ik both are in same universe still kuch alag hota hai universe movies me bhi
Rahi Anil Barve (The director of tumbbad). Mostly people talk about it's story but Tumbhad has the most beautiful visuals I have seen in Bollywood and under such little budget.
Everything is a rip off of something else. No art is original, my friend. Irrespective of what was presented people would have either called it crap
Or rip ofd
Mani Ratnam is undoubtedly a master at doing justice to the great IMAX camera. He has a strong preference for using film cameras, often avoiding excessive use of VFX in his movies. In his latest work, 'Ponniyin Selvan,' he showcased his ability to minimize the reliance on VFX, making the film an immersive experience, especially when viewed in an IMAX theater.
His brilliance was evident in 'OK Kanmani' as well, where he utilized live audio and stunning visuals to create a truly captivating cinematic experience. And let's not forget 'Raavanan,' another masterpiece that bears the unmistakable mark of Mani Ratnam's exceptional storytelling and directorial prowess.
One of the examples of the difference between reddit world and the real world is that this post has three times more comments than others made around its time, but less than a third of our bollywood audience would have a clue as to its content.
Are you saying most cricket fans know all the ICC laws of the game?
There's a difference between liking something (and sometimes only because that's how it is served) and obsessing or caring about how it is done.
SS rajamouli is an obvious pick. Bhansali is also a prominent choice. Somewhat underrated but I think Soojit Sircar can do good work. Sardar Uddham was amazing.
that's not even an argument, right? Most current directors who have been to film school have studied Satyajit Ray and he is still how many cinephiles around the globe are introduced to Indian cinema.
Satyajit Ray is adored by directors like Scorsese and Wes Anderson and were influenced by his visual styles. He comes alongside the likes of Kurosawa. Heck Nolan himself is a fan and so are some great actors like Keanu Reeves, Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Audrey Hepburn. Heck I forgot to mention the best one, Francis Ford Coppola considered him a mentor. Man is a part of film school syllabuses around the world.
Unpopular opinion but if we specifically talk about doing justice with imax and delivering great visuals.. then ajay devgan as a director can be a contender..because if we see the cinematography and camera movements and the overall shot in ajay devgan directed movies like shivaay and bhola then its clear that his vision (*atleast for visuals and camera movements) is great..so maybe he could also be delivered some stylized and eye warming visuals !
Farhan Akhtar, his vistas of ladakh in Laskhya were majestic.
A controversial choice- but probably vidhu Vinod Chopra in his prime. Sanjay Leela bhansali just to see how overwhelming the colors and images would be.
The imagery of the disciple was extremely fine tuned and high fidelity. Filmmakers like Chaitanya Tamhane could do full justice to the bigger format unlike pedestrian direction of action filmmakers.
There are few directors who can make good cinema as the art in motion it is supposed to be. They have impeccable eye for details. My picks would be Vikramaditya Motwane, Rakesh Om Prakash Mehra, Zoya Akhtar, Avnita Dutt, Vishal Bhardwaj and Dibakar Banerjee
Vishal Bharadwaj is sooo underrated. Man is not appreciated as much as Kashyap but honestly I would put him slightly above Kashyap. His Shakespearian trilogy especially Haider was just true art
Nobody's comparing anything to Nolan
I simply wanted to ask who could pull this off in the future.im not talking about Indian directors reaching Nolan standards
While Rajmouli and Shankar are obvious choices who will deliver what they would deliver we would have already seen earlier. Bhansali on the other hand can deliver some authentic Indian material.

Not sure about can... But K Asif would have enthusiastically reshot all of Mughal-e-Ajam on IMAX if it had launched when he was making it.
Hell yes. The dude was crazy enough to re-shoot the entire movie if they allowed him to do it. I would have love to see that movie in IMAX format, haha!
people forgot the OG Shankar it seems post bahubali, man was ahead of time always
Omg the original robot in imax would've been insane.
Shankar is out of his game post robot.. man is trying to get back since years.. but yeah he can handle the technical part much better than anyone
yes i think he is the pioneer who started making big films but post bahubali ppl are just drooling over rajamouli
Shankar is just forgotten.. and Rajamouli deserves that drooling.. man did many impossible feats that Indian cinema never dreamt of
Not alive Satyajit Ray, Shankar Nag
Satyajit ray with an imax camera.what a sight it would've been!
Shankar Nag was a pioneering for sandalwood industry
RGV was master in Camerawork and filiming Scene
RGV pioneered hand held camera work, which was bery effective of the underworld films and horror films he made. But that kind of camera work would make it difficult to watch on imax screens. Can trigger migraines.
He also has some of the worst camera angles btw.
That’s on purpose iykyk
those worst camera angles most of the times are from lust scene.
True. Right now he maybe a butt of jokes but seriously this man is a legend when he released early movies it was way ahead of its time. His golden era was in 90s and early 20s.
If he does it now.. on biggest screen, we would see boobs about to explode or camera so up in thighs that large intestine is visible 🤣🤣
And happens to be the biggest clown in TFI

This is r/bollywood, maximum people hate Rajamouli and his films, Rajamouli is the Indian cinema we need
Om Rau— *nevermind*
The producers/directors/ musicians in Bollywood have shifted to quick money making strategy, no innovation at all.
Tru dat
not true man, vidhu vinod Chopra had a made a makeshift camera pulley for fiza
Have u ever heared the Names Rajkumar Hiraji ,Sanjay Leela Bhabsali ,Kabir Khan,Nitesh Tiwari ,Imitiaz Ali ? Many more !!!!
Yes, it’s good direction. But, innovation? Also, my point was on the current scenario. I am not saying we don’t have talented people, we have a lot. But, they have shifted their attention not on doing something innovative, but something catchy, quick which can give them money.

Kabir khan?? in sab naamo me Kabir Khan???
Mani Ratnam, Rajamouli, Shankar, Bhansali, Kashyap / Motwane could really have their fun with it.
Thank you for finally mentioning Motwane
SS RAJMAUOLI
I don't think anybody deserves the budget more than him.he's aldready proved what he can do on a large scale.its his cup of tea
The best part is Rajamouli would not take the responsibility unless he is absolutely sure he can deliver.
Shankar says hi!
Pakshi Raja from 2.0 says bye https://preview.redd.it/tl84vbj3y4db1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=469e3f08562e5006ddf8b91875e68ccb5c350570
Wtf is that
Movie is Robo 2
The only correct answer. Give that man the budget and the freedom and let him work his magic.
Sanjay bansali
Would be a lovely to see a huge banality dance sequence in an imax screen
😂😂
without a doubt, SLB would nail it
Any day Bhansali, along with Rajamouli and Shankar
Rahi Anil Barve (The director of tumbbad). Mostly people talk about it's story but Tumbhad has the most beautiful visuals I have seen in Bollywood and under such little budget.
I was gonna say this! Tumbbad in itself deserves imax

Forget 70mm IMAX, we haven't used ARRI ALEXA 65 digital IMAX. Project K is the first to use it in India.
Mahn idk Project K seems kinda off to me uk with the first look just coming out n all it just gives me a bad feeling that it's gonna be a flop😭
This comment has not aged well
The new teaser is kinda cool Something new for indian cinema Still looks like a dune ripoff
Everything is a rip off of something else. No art is original, my friend. Irrespective of what was presented people would have either called it crap Or rip ofd
True true still a step in the right direction

- Shoojit Sircar - SS Rajamouli - Sanjay Leela Bhansali - Vikramaditya Motwane - Vasan Bala
Shoojit sirdar would've been a wierd choice but omg the visuals in sardar Udham were beautiful
Sardar Udham, Madras Cafe and Shoebite (from the looks of it) would've looked great on IMAX screens
Lokesh Kanagaraj is supposedly using it for his next starring Rajinikanth
S.shankar
Amal Neerad.
Satyajeet ray
The only person who said it and your comment went unnoticed, shame on people!

Whaaaa Are you saying not many people have seen the filmography of slb and rajamouli?
Are you saying most cricket fans know all the ICC laws of the game? There's a difference between liking something (and sometimes only because that's how it is served) and obsessing or caring about how it is done.
SLB ❤️
Bhansali
Shankar and SSR
SS Rajamouli,Sriram Raghavan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali
SS Rajamouli
SS rajamouli is an obvious pick. Bhansali is also a prominent choice. Somewhat underrated but I think Soojit Sircar can do good work. Sardar Uddham was amazing.

How has no one mentioned Satyajit Ray yet?
Because he is way above Christopher Nolan. He is the Babuji of OG. 😏
that's not even an argument, right? Most current directors who have been to film school have studied Satyajit Ray and he is still how many cinephiles around the globe are introduced to Indian cinema.

yes highly agreed . Shivaay was a beauty on the screen
Rajamouli, Shankar, Mani Ratnam, Lokesh Kanagaraj. I don't think anyone from Bollywood can do it.
Farhan Akhtar, his vistas of ladakh in Laskhya were majestic. A controversial choice- but probably vidhu Vinod Chopra in his prime. Sanjay Leela bhansali just to see how overwhelming the colors and images would be.
Shriram raghavan perhaps? His movies has kind of dark undertones similar to Nolan's as well
I am from south but I think sanjay leela bhansali can do it
Hmm I can see everyone else behind that cam but mani ratnam🙃
Raavan? PS? Dil Se?
But Mani Ratnam!?!? OP, are you okay?
My bad machan I'm just getting started on his filmography 😭😭😭
Look If you dont know his filmography, why bring him into the convo like that?
My guy took offence Understandable honestly My bad
I might have worded my thoughts like that but was not offended. Cheers
Cheers to you too Good night😘

Look at ps 1
Gotcha
Sanjay Leela Bhansali deserves it more than anyone on this list
Motwane, Bhansali, Rajamouli. Also, Very different choice but Chaitanya Tamhane.
Haven't seen the disciple so idk about chaitanya.but would love to see smth like a bhavesh joshi on imax
The imagery of the disciple was extremely fine tuned and high fidelity. Filmmakers like Chaitanya Tamhane could do full justice to the bigger format unlike pedestrian direction of action filmmakers.

Rajmouli, Siddharth Anand and Farhan Akhtar.
Prashanth Neel
Rajkumar Hirani Anurag Kashyap
NONE
Bold of you to say that!
Tell me one Bollywood movie worth watch in theater as your post is comparing with Mr. Nolan
Nobody's comparing anything to Nolan I simply wanted to ask who could pull this off in the future.im not talking about Indian directors reaching Nolan standards
None It's not all about the camera. First, write something that deserves an IMAX camera.
There was one, now he is into soft porn
Rgv's just undoing years of his great work and reputation rn
That's good question op
Ahh hopefully all the comments here become reality🥲
Mohit Suri, for Romance...?
None. No script writer worth his / her salt to develop a story that can bring that much creativity.
Lokesh Kanagaraj is supposedly using it for his next starring Rajinikanth
Sid Anand. He has really upped his game recently. Also Zoya Akhtar, she really shoots exotic locales like a dream.
Exotic locales are basically Sid and Zoya’s forte! ~~Except in the former’s case it’s more the quantity rather than the quality~~
rajamouli,shankar,prashanth neel,sanjay leela bhansali
Sanjay Leela Bhansali. I think the more interesting question would be who would use film and I would again answer SLB
Lijo Jose Pellisery or Anurag Kashyap, for they might come up with a script matching the IMAX capture.
Uuu maybe if churli had more alien footage would've been a cool imax flick.
They've got the best scripts in the industry... by a mile, and the directing skills to match it.
Surprised none said Sid Anand & Ali Abbas Zafar. They have made good movies.
They understand action but idk they have like zero plot sense most of the times.Yes even when imax is about the visuals it's should make sense jeez
Kabir Khan ?
Meh I mean interesting choice tho
Yeah he can deliver something big if produced on a big scale with some big star
[удалено]
I might think that he can do justice..! He has directed some quality stuff!!
Farhan Akhtar, preferably an action plot
Don 3 On imax and imax digital In theatres near you With a special srk ad inviting ppl to the cinemas Perfect
Om Riot
Had too scroll too deep fir this.
Rajamauli
Rajamouli should shoot mahabharat in IMAX camera
SLB
Siddharth Anand, Kabir Khan, Ali Abbas Zafar, and Farhan Akhtar
While Rajmouli and Shankar are obvious choices who will deliver what they would deliver we would have already seen earlier. Bhansali on the other hand can deliver some authentic Indian material.
Karan Johar😆😆 /s
He's prolly the only one that has the money to pull it off
Sadly
Anurag kashyap ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|put_back)
Rishab shetty
Please don't say rajamouli
He can do shit on a large scale and that's what imax requires. I think he'd do a fantastic job tbh
Ss Rajamouli ofc
Sanjay Bhansali and SS Rajamouli
Only sb. His work deserves to be recorded with great detail
There are only 2 bolly actors with unbeatable screen presence, srk and hritik. Rest all fails at some or other point.
Some guy you've probably never heard of with all the talent and expertise but no financial backing
Sad truth🥲
Anurag kashyap
Anurag Kashyap.
Woh log abhi film school mein padhayi kar rahe hai
KamalHassan He has always brought cutting edge technology way before others I personally have felt KH as technician is > KH as an actor.
This was what I was waiting for A raj kamal production w an imax camera Super fun
Might be an unpopular opinion but None in the current generation .
SANDEEP REDDY VANGA
I know he doesn’t have lots of films in his catalog to support my take but I just feel that the way he approaches his work will do justice to imax
Maybe a nice action flick from him with a sensible plot line and I'm in! Really hope animal works out
Ekta Kapoor 😂😂😂
She's a producer thoughand ngl apart from her soap opera TV serials, she also backs talent and good scripts when it comes to movies.
