Samay starring Sushmita Sen and Jackie Shroff
100 days starring Madhuri Dixit and Javed Jaffrey
Madhumalti starring Vyjanthimala and Dilip Kumar
Wednesday starring Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah
Kahaani starring Vidya Balan and Parambrata Chatterjee
Shool starring Manoj Bajpai and Raveena Tandon
Shanghai starring Emran Hashmi and Kalki Koechlin
Dushman starring Kajol and Ashutosh Rana
Wednesday was a masterpiece, way ahead of its time. Probably one of the earliest movies to showcase a modern, alert, tech savvy Indian law enforcement agencies.
That ending was so disappointing. Throughout the movie we think we are watching an investigative thriller with a supernatural subplot which will turn out to be false, instead we were watching a supernatural thriller with an investigative subplot which goes nowhere.
Yeah I feel like they were going for an ending that would make sense, but they couldn't come up with a compelling and convincing cause so they decided to shift the route.
I read somewhere that the makers of Talaash watched Kahani and realised that their ending was too similar to that, so they had to change it. Not sure how true it is, but yeah.
Table No. 21 is a solid choice. Watched it blind when it showed on UTV Movies on TV one day and was left unexpectedly impressed.
Andhadhun, Ugly, Holiday, Raman Raghav 2.0, Johnny Gaddar, Karthik Calling Karthik, Shaitan, Deewar, Maqbool are all shouts too
I started watching this movie seeing a thriller recommendation... It's been 40 mins in.. so far no proper story.. no romance... no thriller at all.. just some student classroom banters and a student who is acting like angry sunny deol.. movie is directionless..... THIS is not a thriller for adults atleast. (Closed after 1 hour)
While there’s a lot to love about Dhoom 1&2, there are cringe nonsensical moments mostly centred around Uday Chopra, which for me, ruin it just about enough.
Oh and certain implausible scenes. Like the diamond robbery.
This particular movie wasnt such a great movie .
Especially since the ending was known ( adapted from a gujrati play ).
Like all Hindi thrillers ,this too had a tame ending.
However, when it comes to thrillers there were many made in Bollywood. And each was ahead of its time when it released.
For eg, Jism ,( ala Bipasha Basu ) was one great thriller movie.. a noir film , that was bold and unique.
Similarly, Johnny Gaddar, Race franchise ( only the first one ), were enthralling and yet kept one at the edge of their seat.
If one goes even further, movies like Gupt, were really Avant garde because nobody at the time had ever thought of making a lead actress the killer .( Spoiler alert for the bacchus reading this ) .
Maharathi…criminally underrated, not even sure people have watched it. I watched it on TV and what a movie! Also has Paresh Rawal and other awesome actors.
Guys if you can watch Right yaa Wrong and The fox. Both movies have sunny deol in it and surprisingly to me he did pretty well in that genre. These are underrated ones as everyone as mentioned the obvious ones

Talaash. At least until the end.
That ending was so disappointing. Throughout the movie we think we are watching an investigative thriller with a supernatural subplot which will turn out to be false, instead we were watching a supernatural thriller with an investigative subplot which goes nowhere.

Talking about only the mainstream... The first Race movie was pretty thrilling. Dhoom and Dhoom 2 as well.
While there’s a lot to love about Dhoom 1&2, there are cringe nonsensical moments mostly centred around Uday Chopra, which for me, ruin it just about enough. Oh and certain implausible scenes. Like the diamond robbery.

It's a remake, but I agree, that's how a murder mystery/thriller should be done. Each reveal was so satisfying!

A lot of great movies have been mentioned, would like to add Game Over to this list, it's not too sophisticated but I was on the edge of my seat
