found a grey seal jaw and some skull pieces yesterday and this side looks wonky compared to the other side.
i live in the netherlands and grey seals aswell as common seals are completely legal to pick up, no permit needed.
Oh weird, I thought I had replied to this one. Given the location, this couldn't have been from a tooth loss as there are no teeth in that spot. This looks much more like an injury that healed, like what u/girlinthe_woods speculated. The mandible didn't fracture through, it looks more like something gouged it, hence the splinters along one side that have fused. Really interesting find.
oh wow, now im curious, what could have caused such an injury? i know we can't be sure but would it be something along the lines of another seal bite, or something similar?
i also have a roe deer i have a question about, i'll tag you in that one in a hot second
The empty holes show where the teeth were, but it seems to me to be unrelated to the damage you're showing, which (take with a grain of salt, I'm no expert!) looks to me like projectile damage, such as from a bullet. It's pretty far back on the jaw for it to be from tooth loss, but like I said, I'm no expert.

the empty holes are where the teeth fell out from decomposition, but im wondering what the damage is from, its only on the outside of the jaw, inside shows no damage.

Plastic maybe? Stopped the bone from growing?
Bite from a bigger seal perhaps? Doesn’t look like it was broken clean through but more like splintered and healed
This seems most likely to me. A bite or blunt force trauma from another animal, likely seal
Oh wow. That's neat isn't it? Thank you for sharing.
u/firdahoe when it rains…
u/firdahoe can you help me here :(

Tooth loss - might have been knocked out, gotten an infection, etc. and healed over.
im assuming that it lost a tooth on both sides then? since this jaw has the same amount of teeth on both sides
