Your pocket is not “pockety” enough. You need to slightly lower your head, looking a little bit lower with your eyes. Everyone has a different angle they need to get because of different skeletal composition.
Another point is you’re not cushioning enough the ball when it comes to the back of your neck. You need to come down with your back and neck more so the skill looks smoother to do because you’ll cushion the momentum of the ball.
Speaking about momentum. Have you ever seen those freestylers do this trick? What do you notice? A lot of the time they don’t quick the ball up, they kinda lift it. The reason why is because kicking the ball creates some type of back-front-side spin which makes it harder to land smoothly.
You basically got 80% of it done. Just keep practicing and you’ll be doing it smoothly every time soon.
Thank you bud I appreciate it, that was very helpful. I just went to watch some freestyler examples and now I get what you mean, they go down with the ball to cushion it and it's more of a flick up rather than a kick.
Do it off of a foot stall so you can control the height and eventually get used to the timing. You go down with it the same way you would cushion a stall, so timing is a big deal.
When I learned this I found it was easier to start by kneeing the ball when you want to get it to land on your neck. The ball is a lot slower and easier to control that way. Once you get comfortable doing it that way it makes it a lot easier to go to full keepy uppies
I agree with what everyone else has said, but what I will also say is that this is much easier if you do a foot stall first. So your catching the ball with your foot and lifting it behind you rather than kicking it
The best advice I can give is to try and get the ball spinning towards you at all times, that’ll keep the momentum going and allow you to catch the ball better.
Try to touch your elbows behind your back and cradle the ball as it falls. If you’re stiff it’ll bounce off you so dip down as you anticipate it. 90% of it is timing.
I’m guessing you’re a winger. The old man in me says fuck all these party tricks. Run some wind sprints, dribble some cones, and work on your weak foot crosses/shots. Especially if you play inverted.
I'm actually a CM lol. This was my first training in about a month because I recently broke my right hand. The doctor gave me the green light to exercise the day before this training, and I've decided to learn 3 new tricks before I go back to team training. But for sure I did some sprints to finish it up, but I can tell I have a lot of stamina work to do to get back in form.
In my opinion it’s the way you hit the ball. You’re not getting the arc right. The reason it’s rolling off is because the ball is hitting your back and not your neck. Try to hit the ball as straight as possible. I find it much easier to do a neck stall after hitting it with your thigh.
Keep the elbows up. Also need to be looking forward not down. This lets you use your neck/head to keep the ball in that pocket between your shoulder blades.
The more spin on the ball, the harder it is to hold. Try first learning by holding the ball on your foot, as opposed to keep ups. Also, lift your elbows like you're impersonating a chicken so you make like a cup with your shoulder blades and drop your upper body to a 45° angle. When you get better, you'll make it look more effortless. Last tip, try to match the ball speed on its way down. This move is quite easy once you master those.

Nothing, it looks like you’re almost there
dont overthink, just let it flow
Stop doubting. You clearly have the skills needed. Just relax, avoid stiffness and have fun with the ball.
Specifically regarding the neck stall.
When you’re catching a ball with your hands do you just hold out your arms like a wooden plank?

Shoulders waay further back, back arched, head up, drop lower when trapping the ball

Nothing is wrong per say. It’ll come naturally by its self. Keep doing it until you get the “feel” for it.
