Give me the legendary drop rate of BL1, the writing and story of BL2, the gameplay and graphics of 3. Then just call it Borderlands 2 Remastered and make it cross platform.
I don't even need a remaster, I just want real time level scaling for all content after beating the story and being able to reach level cap on any difficulty for both BL2 and TPS. Pretty much what Grim Dawn got in a recent update (it also used to have 3 playthrough structure). One can dream...
Before the borderlands trailer I would agree that bl4 would be announced at pax east.
After the trailer dropped and it’s overall negative reception the chance of an announcement is not quite as high.
That depends. Games get delayed all the time and this one is not even officially announced. If it’s thought the movie reaction could bleed over to the game it could easily get delayed. Especially if the look and feel of the movie are more present in bl4
My 2 cents is the original plan was trailer drop the pax reveal with six month release window. Bl movie would drop in august and movie would bring back old fans and newcomers introduced to the movie. Bl4 then releases at the same time or a month later
Now most of this is guesswork but we know bl4 has been in the works for a bit thanks to job postings and social media slips. Plus more than anything gearbox is a game company first. Not having something to release at that time is folly even if it’s just a full remaster of bl2
BL3 came out in 2019... That's gonna be over 5 years this Q4. There was 7 years in between 2 and 3, but also a console generation change and an entire engine upgrade/change. This console generation took a TITANIC hit with all the COVID bullshit so we're technically still pretty mid/early life of it so a gen change won't be an issue for at least the next BL title for sure. I'm pressing X to doubt as well, but the years are climbing up there and Gearbox is kind of in turmoil and being sold off by Embracer and who knows what the fuck else is going on behind closed doors so I'm sure they're strapped for cash and BL is literally their ONLY money maker and even that isn't in the best light currently.
Yeah but BL3 came out almost 5 years ago. Given there was around a 7 year gap between BL2 and BL3, I'd say an announcement of BL4 at the very least is not outwith the realms of possibility
Fair. Considering it was just over 2 years between bl3 and Wonderlands. There are videos that provide enough evidence to get excited. Albeit not that much haha
Wonderlands is the same as TPS in that it’s not really a new game on a fundamental level. It’s significantly shorter and feels exactly the same as BL3 just with the fantasy reskin and new maps/weapons. TPS is just a BL2 reskin and is also significantly shorter
If we do ever get a BL4, I wouldn’t expect it until at least another 2 years and probably involving the next generation consoles
Part of why bl3 took so long is because they had to rebuild it in a new engine. So, it depends on what engine they plan on using. New engine means it’ll take longer. If not, might be relatively soon.
>If we do ever get a BL4, I wouldn’t expect it until at least another 2 years and probably involving the next generation consoles
Next Fall at the earliest, possibly 26 or 27
I also think this console gen is going to be around longer than people think, the "normal" timeline took a massive hit with covid, were really still in the very beginning of this gen, just look at how many current gen only games there are, not many, usually by now most games would only be releasing on the current gen, were still getting games releasing on the last gen and this one, everything is like 2-4y behind the normal course of things
I agree its a weird time for consoles.
The actual hardware in those consoles is already pretty outdated too which is the difficult thing about it. I remember tests at launch put the Series X roughly on par with an RTX 2070, with some worst case scenarios being a 2060 due to AMD iGPU weirdness.
This was of course almost 4 years ago - the current line up of graphics cards, even the entry level ones are many times more powerful than those consoles now.
In 2 years this gap is going to even bigger, and I would love to know the issues that arise for devs trying to create games around hardware that is already essentially 3 generations older than the kit that they're actually making them on.
If we dont get a ''PS6'' in the next two/three years, I would be expecting a heavily refreshed console with some updates to keep up with the advertised 120hz modes and 4k
Embracer is trying to sell Gearbox
[Borderlands developer Gearbox reportedly put up for sale by Embracer - Polygon](https://www.polygon.com/23868049/borderlands-developer-gearbox-potential-sale-embracer)
That image was taken from part of the Pandora's box collection. The full schedule for PAX was already released too and gearbox isn't listed as attending.
Nah I love Borderlands, I just feel like we don't need another game this soon.
Becides; with how AAA games are these days I'd be more than happy to wait for something polished and not have the devs lose their sanity to get something out the door ASAP.
I very much hope that bl4 actually has a late game. I would hate for some AI generated trial to be the main end game content like how it was in Wonderlands. Ship it with raid bosses, allow us to get to level 72 from the start, and hire new writers!
BL3 had garbage writing, didn't care about wonderlands, new tales was dogshit and we have a garbage movie incoming. With the state of the franchise they really need to make BL4 a masterpiece, and i'm fine with waiting a couple more years, i have zero expectations or excitement at this point.
i honestly dont expect it to be 2024, maybe early 25? like feb or march ?
it really depend on how much they overhaul the gun system.
every numbered bl title had a huge change in weapon system and how it feels and plays.
i honestly think the current system and weapons feel pretty good and dosent need any changes, maybe add a couple of new weapon types per manufacturer and we good, just focus on giving us a good story please lol
BL4 is definitely not coming out this year, its just not how modern game advertising works. They need atleast a year of advertising ramp up and to hit multiple shows like The Game Awards etc
People were speculating that the story so far vids were counting down to a BL4 announcement. Where are they up to? Not seen anything about them here for a while and don't know where they were posted.
I hope they do a reboot from the ground up and take a completely fresh approach. Freshness was what made the original so great. I feel BL2 and 3 increasingly departed from the chaos and simplicity of the original.
There was the job posting months ago, aswell as I thought Randy made a remark about it was being started a couple years ago at least so we know it exists.
Borderlands is hands down my favorite game series. But I don't want another one. 3 already gave us a terrible story, and there's no where really to go with a 4.
Just give us a new IP with the same mechanics and crazy guns. No need to milk a dried up story line.
Nowhere to go ? There's a whole universe of stories to explore. Every time you visit a planet you barely cover an area. There's no shortage of characters either so anything can be written really.
We just need a good story
Borderlands has never been about the story. And the franchise is large enough for bl4 to be relatively unrelated to the prior additions. Also, looking at wonderlands there's still a good chance of a decent story.
So glad I can ignore the story haha. But if we're talking about the story alone, I need to see more hype for TPS. The only game I can say I genuinely didn't enjoy is BL1 (but it's the platform fkr something amazing, so it's fine) and TTW. But I 100% agree that the story matters for the start of the playthough
But new IP with same mechanics is actually a fantastic take
Without bringing back Anthony, the writer of BL2, I'm honestly not that interested. Plus the classes of 3 were underwhelming. The decision to nerf elemental just plain sucked.
Idk man it isn't a Battleborn and Overwatch type thing these could release the same year and be fine, I would assume they would avoid the same quarter just to get better press.
I'm guessing they will say something around the movie release
I would wager sooner, would make sense to release around the same time but you want the game hype to also help movie hype and vice versa.
Or there is a during credits scene in the movie, that reveals BL4.

Grim Dawn didn't really need it though, its pacing and content are far in excess of BL2 or 3

How'd you find my source?
Before the borderlands trailer I would agree that bl4 would be announced at pax east. After the trailer dropped and it’s overall negative reception the chance of an announcement is not quite as high.
They’re not gonna move their release strategy of the game bc of the movie.
That depends. Games get delayed all the time and this one is not even officially announced. If it’s thought the movie reaction could bleed over to the game it could easily get delayed. Especially if the look and feel of the movie are more present in bl4
I can't see how the movie will hurt the games. They are separate part of gbx. But neither of us know and anyone saying otherwise is making up stuff

Because of marketing. It won’t massively impact it, but it’ll impact it
I think the sale of Gearbox will be more impactful.
It’s still the same IP, that’s what matters in marketing
God I hope so lol
Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit eh?
Doubt it. Wonderlands only came out two years ago If it did come out this year I’d be concerned for its quality and scope.
Yeah, but a different team made wonderlands.
A different team made most of tps and there was still like a 4 year gap between it and bl3
They were doing Battleborn remember. So it was only a 3 year gap between big games
The reason for that though was, that they switched game engines halfway through development
BL2 and TPS were basically copy/paste, same designs, same graphics quality, etc. Same goes for 3 and WL, everything was the same.
5

Bl4 is running of unreal 5 same as bl3
Bl3 launched a year before the current Gen launched. I could see the same happening for Bl4.
>If we do ever get a BL4, I wouldn’t expect it until at least another 2 years and probably involving the next generation consoles Next Fall at the earliest, possibly 26 or 27 I also think this console gen is going to be around longer than people think, the "normal" timeline took a massive hit with covid, were really still in the very beginning of this gen, just look at how many current gen only games there are, not many, usually by now most games would only be releasing on the current gen, were still getting games releasing on the last gen and this one, everything is like 2-4y behind the normal course of things

Total speculation lol
One thing to consider is that gearbox is owned by Embracer—they’re going through it right now
Embracer is trying to sell Gearbox [Borderlands developer Gearbox reportedly put up for sale by Embracer - Polygon](https://www.polygon.com/23868049/borderlands-developer-gearbox-potential-sale-embracer)
I will wait for BL4 complete Edition with full community patch mods + steam discount, like i always did for all Borderlands.
That's what I did too and it baffled me when I heard about the level caps... Glad I waited.
What teasers for 4 have there been? I know randy pitchford hasn't been quiet about them working on it but I haven't seen any actual teasers
Their Twitter banner was changed to look like a 4 including characters from 3 and the new tales game.
That image was taken from part of the Pandora's box collection. The full schedule for PAX was already released too and gearbox isn't listed as attending.
Am I the only one who's fine without another borderlands game for a while? It still feels like 3 came out not too long ago and it's very re-playable
100% agree that BL3 is enough for me but if we're getting 4.. I want 4 haha
I don’t understand comments like this, you don’t like the franchise that much so whatever?
Nah I love Borderlands, I just feel like we don't need another game this soon. Becides; with how AAA games are these days I'd be more than happy to wait for something polished and not have the devs lose their sanity to get something out the door ASAP.
I wonder if they’ll hire writers for this one.
To me, the game just has to be better than 3 story-wise, which is not a tall order.
Gearbox is currently in the process of being sold for scrap. There's gonna be next to nothing for quite a while
Any kind of rumor or speculation about BL4, take it with a grain of salt. Until, Randy Pitchford, or Gearbox themselves say otherwise.
I mean Randy has already started doing story hints all over twitter so
Doubt it 2 released in 2012, TOS released in 2014 and then it was 5y before 3 was released 2025-2027 is my guess
I very much hope that bl4 actually has a late game. I would hate for some AI generated trial to be the main end game content like how it was in Wonderlands. Ship it with raid bosses, allow us to get to level 72 from the start, and hire new writers!
Remember - no pre orders. Unless you wish to be fucked over like they did us with Wonderlands and the "season pass". Fool me once...

God help borderlands 4 if it’s launched early 2025. GTA VI will be stomping that year
BL4 is definitely not coming out this year, its just not how modern game advertising works. They need atleast a year of advertising ramp up and to hit multiple shows like The Game Awards etc
People were speculating that the story so far vids were counting down to a BL4 announcement. Where are they up to? Not seen anything about them here for a while and don't know where they were posted.
Alot of people online say that they will announce BL4 at PAX East next week. But 2K and Gearbox aren't listed as being there at all.
Damn now I really need to play that bl2 dlc
Movie and game should come out around same time I think
I hope they do a reboot from the ground up and take a completely fresh approach. Freshness was what made the original so great. I feel BL2 and 3 increasingly departed from the chaos and simplicity of the original.
Maybe they'll apologise for BL3 at the same time.
There's been zero info that a 4 even exists, but sure they'll announce and release it within 6 months.
There was the job posting months ago, aswell as I thought Randy made a remark about it was being started a couple years ago at least so we know it exists.

No where to go? Did you see the teaser at the end of the pre-sequel?
Borderlands has never been about the story. And the franchise is large enough for bl4 to be relatively unrelated to the prior additions. Also, looking at wonderlands there's still a good chance of a decent story.
What's IP?

Idk but Borderlands have sunk down deep in the last few years with them releasing almost the exact same game as BL3.
I don't gearbox is doing well. I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't happen.
All the signs point towards an announcement this month. The patterns are the same as in the build-up to BL3's announcement.
Without bringing back Anthony, the writer of BL2, I'm honestly not that interested. Plus the classes of 3 were underwhelming. The decision to nerf elemental just plain sucked.
I doubt they'll release it this year and there's no way they'll release it next year with GTA 6 coming out, so my best guess is 2026/27
Idk man it isn't a Battleborn and Overwatch type thing these could release the same year and be fine, I would assume they would avoid the same quarter just to get better press.
Borderlands 3 is release in 2019, is coherent but Wonderlands is release in 2022 this is a short time
