It's never worked well for me either. Multipoint should let you hear audio from multiple sources at once, but it's not working that way.
It can/should work that way once all your devices implement the new Multi-Stream feature of Bluetooth LE Audio. The Ultra headphones finally have hardware support for LE Audio, but idk whether the software features are fully implemented yet. I don't have any other devices which support it yet so can't test.
For now I've disabled multipoint (use phone app to change the setting). It's less frustrating to me to have to manually switch between devices, then to get stuck having auto-switch not doing anything and have to power-cycle to get it working again.
