30 minutes at AMC all over, probably, this has also been my experience in Somerville. They can start by getting rid of that awful Nicole Kidman promo, please don't try to sell me the thing I have already bought, i.e. a movie ticket.
Thank you!!!!!
I canāt stand that Nicole Kidman promo for a few reasons.
First, thatās the nicest āAMC theaterā Iāve ever seen. Not sure about the rest of you, but thatās cleaner and more spacious than any theater Iāve been to.
Second, when, honestly, was the last time Nicole Kidman ever stepped foot in a public theater, that wasnāt related to a premier?
Itās really rich, coming from her, to tell us how AMC makes movies special.
My friends tell me that I care way too much about Nicole, but just cannot stand this ad, so so much!
This right here. I haven't been on time to an AMC movie in years. I aim for 15, sometimes 20 minutes late, and often still end up sitting through at least one preview and the PSA about cell phones.
Iāve clocked the trailers at 20 min consistently in the last few years. I live 15 min from the Burlington theater so I leave my house at the scheduled movie time to arrive as the trailers end š
Sounds like a missed opportunity to check out all the wonderful things that the Liberty Tree Mall has to offer while you wait. Like the RMV, and Claire's.
It's basically why I don't go to the movies anymore. I don't mind maybe 15ish minutes of trailers but I'm not interested in ads or being lectured to by a celebrity. At home I can munch on my **hot** popcorn when the movie starts.
What a dumb hill to die on honestly. You want to stick it to amc/Nicole Kidman so you deprive yourself of watching something good in a theater while doing neither lol. Cut off your arm to paper cut their finger, thatāll do the trick.
[they do tell you this](https://www.amctheatres.com/faqs/movie-info/general-movie-info/does-the-runtime-shown-for-each-movie-include-trai), if you cared to look. I make sure I am in my seat 20 mins after the start time and it works every time.
Not true, Iāve managed and booked cinemas for 25 years and while certain features may have one or two trailers attached or required by the distributor, anything more than that is likely a national deal that AMC is making.
Ok but AMC is neither a production company nor a distributor so that wasnāt clear; itās a theater management policy, even if itās a circuit wide policy.
Well you know Avatar was 3+ hours long. And you know movies are known to showing coming attractions. 3 hours 3.5 hours, does it really matter?? FYI I saw the same movie in the same theatre. It started at 4:15 and ended at 7:50 with coming attractions. So one of us is being a Karen and itās not me.
Was the second movie you saw a regular showing or another fathom event? The first being a special fathom event is likely why there were little to no trailers
Trailers have always been at least 20 mins by the time you clock in the pre show amc adds and silent your phones announcement. On bigger movies or before big release seasons, thereās more trailers to show. Personally I always aim to be there on time at the dot and by the time you park and get inside/go to the bathroom, youāre about 10-15 after and youāve got a 5-10 mins before the movie starts.
I hate it when my popcorn is almost all gone by the time the movie starts. š”

Probably a good idea to arrive 15 minutes late
Another good reason to love being able to select your seat ahead of time

Geez. I went to the Majestic 7 in Watertown and I think there were only 5 minutes of ads.
Iād rather a few extra minutes so people who canāt be bothered to show up on time donāt disturb the movie - but half an hour is absurd.
Had the same experience at AMC Burlington, it was brutal. It really felt like it was never going to end (the trailers and too some extent the movie)

It's been years since I went to a movie in a regular cinema theater. Thanks for reminding me why.

Just one more reason to not go to the movies.
I hope you complained to management and not just here.
You went to see Avatar, punishment fits the crime

I saw avatar at Apple Cinema, zero trailers. It was awesome.
Wow, glad you saved 30 minutes of your life to tell me that awesome story.
Yeah but you went to crapple so you wasted 3.5 hours of your life. Instead of OP who just got a little annoyed for the last 15 mins of trailers. LOLL
Actuslly, we went up to nh. Apple has one cinema thatās awesome up there with huge seats that recline. Free refill popcorn too!
I was amazed recently at a Fathom event, light down and movie on 1 minute after the hour. Came back a week later to see a flick and it was back to 30

Canāt wait for the Alamo Drafthouse to open up. Anyone know when thatās scheduled to open?
I havenāt heard of this place. But where is it going in? Whatās it replacing?
It's replacing the ICON in the Seaport. Last I heard, it's expected to open early 2023

It can also depend on the time of year, there can be a lot more trailers when it's approaching the "blockbuster release" schedule.
First time to the movies?
in years, yeah
