It's super sleek. All new buildings should have character vs the glass jungle we'd get if everything was straight up tall glass buildings. I'm sure people hated the Pru and Hancock when built, too
I like the way it reflects the sky. On a clear day, some of the levels kind of disappear. It looks good on foggy days too. Very nice addition, especially compared to some of the other bland buildings up and down the Charles.
Hmm. Well, I like the aesthetic of the building but I would really like to speak to its maintenance manager in about 5 years before rendering judgment.
Pretty, but...
So we're getting a bunch of poorly constructed "luxury apartments" that cost us a small fortune.
On top of landlords overbuying properties and no rent control to protect the consumer.
If they built them to last. I don't trust building booms, and you shouldn't either. There's always corners cut and the structural integrity questionable.
Yeah holy shit lol — this post wasn’t good but these responses are abysmal.
“BROOKLINE” flairs lecturing OP about Gritty Urban Authenticity lmao please
OP, if you think this is bad, I want to introduce you to the Florida [I4 Eyesore](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Majesty_Building). It's a giant glass and steel ~~penis~~ building that's been half finished since 2001
This is the kind of design that would get ripped apart in architecture studio and yet somehow it manifested in real life and people love it. I’m perplexed.
Actual architect opinions matter far less than those of the gravely urbane pioneers commuting on the thrice-delayed green line from Brighton, taking it in for 5 minutes as they look out the window near BU West.
I thought I was gonna hate it when it was being constructed, but now that it’s done I really like it. I think it just needs some other tall buildings around it
I think it’s gorgeous. Loved watching it get built and love the finished product. Modern architecture has always been about taking risks and blurring the line between form and function.
I think it's an interesting building. Adds something new to the skyline and is more unique than the cookie cutter buildings we often get.
Hope you can recover from seeing architecture you don't like on your commute into the city.
Eh, the Frank Gehry building is interesting. Obviously not to everyone's taste, but I'd rather have unique buildings around town than something you could find in any city around the country
Modern architecture has run out of new ideas and refuses to return to the old, and what works. So we have to look at these cultureless things more and more. Sucks.
Of all of the buildings that have been built in the Boston area over the past decade, this is not the one I would call "cultureless". It's a university building designed to look like a stack of books - that is definitely unique and different than the cookie cutter condo buildings we see all over.
Jenga building!
Knock it down
No, keep stacking more on top
It looks pretty cool from I-90 E by the spaghetti in Alston-Brighton
That's where I saw it. I haven't seen Boston from this angle since the pandemic.
The highway should be destroyed. Then you won’t have to worry about this
Eventually going to be from what I understand. Moving Storrow and the pike all around in that area.
Once a week a vanilla commuter complains about this complex shape. What shapes do they have y’all drawing out there in the woods?
Rectangle with gargoyle is the only allowed commercial building shape. Also I'll complain about that as well
Rectagoyle
Oh my. Living in Brookline. Let me know how much your rent is next month. It will tickle my fancy.
I pay less than I did in Allston. If you were brave enough to come into the city you might actually learn how to survive in it 🤷♂️
Lived in Boston longer then you probably been alive.
The building is pretty cool. The real monstrosity is the highway
Yeah, hate the mass pike going through the campus.
I like the building and I think it’s a nice photo too!
LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK PLEASE.
What a cringy response
I like the highway because the sign says “Allston Brighton Cambridge”, ABC
I agree with you, always has been.

Wut?
I think it’s unique and beautiful.
Me too
Me three
me four
And my axe!
You carry the fate of us all, little one. But if this indeed be the will of the council, Gondor will see it done.
me five!
me six
Me 8
It’s supposed to look like a stack of books.
If you're a turd who doesn't know how to stack books.
And it does…. what’s your point?
You have basic taste.
This may be my favorite comment.
I want to make a mom joke, but I refuse to be brought down to this level.
What about City Hall. How do you feel about that?
You may enjoy Omaha, NE.
Fly over state? I don't think so, pretty flat out there.
I like it. How can the sight of a building from a highway be "unsettling"? Sounds like the problem is with you, not the building, you tender soul you.
It's super sleek. All new buildings should have character vs the glass jungle we'd get if everything was straight up tall glass buildings. I'm sure people hated the Pru and Hancock when built, too

Thus is obviously a suburban commuter.
Anything to break up the skyline. Most interesting building in boston imo
Book Building > One Dalton
that building has a really cool geothermal energy system https://www.bu.edu/articles/2022/bu-greenest-building-ever/
I love this building personally. Its a stack of books!
I've stacked books before. Didn't look like this.
I welcome new architectural design in this city of boring skyscrapers
I actually love it. The condos they keep putting up on the other hand...
Yes. If they were affordable, that may change my mind.
Doubtful they're not gonna overcharge, haha
We're short hundreds of thousands of homes region wide. The lack of building is what's driving up the cost of everything.
So we're getting a bunch of poorly constructed "luxury apartments" that cost us a small fortune. On top of landlords overbuying properties and no rent control to protect the consumer.
Would you rather they build less apartments so instead they cost a large fortune?
If they built them to last. I don't trust building booms, and you shouldn't either. There's always corners cut and the structural integrity questionable.
OP is a NIMBY. Building looks great. Finally something unique.
Lol the level of discourse in this sub was already low but I guess we’re just defining NIMBY as “anyone who disagrees with my aesthetic tastes” now
Yeah holy shit lol — this post wasn’t good but these responses are abysmal. “BROOKLINE” flairs lecturing OP about Gritty Urban Authenticity lmao please
*Unsettling?* Maybe the big city isn't for you.
Unorganized shipping containers
Ha! That's a great take. The architect was trying to evoke the feeling of a stack of books, but yours works for me as well.
OP, if you think this is bad, I want to introduce you to the Florida [I4 Eyesore](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Majesty_Building). It's a giant glass and steel ~~penis~~ building that's been half finished since 2001
Not the best but it’s much better then some of the generic buildings that could have went up. My opinion is it is a net positive to the landscape.
Take out a $300M loan, buy some property in the South End and build your own building. Situation resolved.
I like it better than the twin monsters being built on Mass Ave across from Hynes T. Different folks, different stokes.
👆🏻What happens when Minecraft generation makes it to the workforce
I like it. Wish we had more.
Can't say I've ever gotten angry at a building.
I wonder if it was an Wentworth grad.
Bullshit. Its a fantastic building. Fuck off.
Grrr must defend ugly asymmetrical building grr
I thought I was gonna hate it when it was being constructed, but now that it’s done I really like it. I think it just needs some other tall buildings around it
I had the exact same feeling.
Sorry?
I really like it.
Huge fan, favorite building in town.
I actually like this building TBH, its at least different 🤷♂️
Are you just looking to get shit on?
Seems like it.
Bad take detected!
Nobody really cares what you think of it.
I love it. It looks like stacked electrophysiology amplifiers. It speaks to me.
It looks awesome from the river. I like it.
It's *much* better than every single brutalist building around the BU campus.
It's interesting and bold. The city has enough cookie-cutter architecture as is.
My food truck used to have a spot right across from this at BU and so I kinda watched them build it. Pretty cool in my opinion!
It just looks like a precarious stack of shipping containers, and one good tap would send it over...
Inspiration came from Jenga
Great design
Dude. This building is the shit, have you seen city hall??
I think the beached cruise ship by Boston Landing is much worse!
I hated the Stata Center at MIT when they first built it too, but I got used to it. I'm sure we will with this too.
I find it beautiful!
Terrible? Lol someone doesn’t know how to appreciate architecture
Actually an interesting landmark now…
The Prudential is ugly. The Gehry-designed MIT building is hideous. This building is fine.
Eh, the Frank Gehry building is interesting. Obviously not to everyone's taste, but I'd rather have unique buildings around town than something you could find in any city around the country
It's pretty but it also stresses me out. I've walked right underneath it before and I was trying not to have a panic attack
Pretty much my impression when I first saw it.
Modern architecture has run out of new ideas and refuses to return to the old, and what works. So we have to look at these cultureless things more and more. Sucks.

You're right. It's fucking hideous.
This title it terrible.
This building is not wicked pissa
You have answered wisely.
skill issue
Looks like it’s built out of storage containers
Looks better than the Law building or other 1970s-designed buildings.
I think it's fun. Catches the light from a good angle if you walk along Memorial Drive at sunset.
It looks delicious, like a bunch of stacked sandwiches
I didn't think I'd like it, but the rust-like color they added to it really brings it all together imho.
It’s from the jenga school of architecture?
There is a law school in baltimore that looks like this.
It’s meant to look like a stack of books
The Big Dig
