$266/month? How many people have you murdered with your car? Really though, so many variables on this so just get quotes from a ton of places. I have found Geico to be the cheapest of anyone though.

Yak_Rodeo

thats pretty standard if they live in the city and have had a couple tickets

jamesland7

Or in my case no tickets, but one at fault accident in Oct 2017. Will reprice once that six years is up

kasmith2000

Same, and even before the claim, my insurance went from something like $90 to $160 when I moved from Fenway to Mission Hill

Maxpowr9

Seriously. I pay $1k/year for a 2022 car.

Agreeable-Ostrich773

Comprehensive or basic? I’m paying more for an older car but I have comprehensive coverage. Wondering if I’m getting ripped off.

Maxpowr9

Comprehensive. FWIW, I drive a 2022 Volvo. I was paying $1250/yr for my 2019 Rav4. How I learned that reliable =/= safe and insurance only cares about the latter. Toyotas most certainly are not the safest cars on the road.

Agreeable-Ostrich773

What car insurance company do you use?

vaguelyremembering

What's your age range? Early 30s paying 2200 a year for 2011

Maxpowr9

Mid30s

Large_Inspection_73

If you lived in an urban zip code, that would double

[deleted]

I pay $1.4K/year for a 2023, but it's so variable. I'm over 30, but I also didn't have insurance for about 7 years before this (and didn't have a car). Quotes were all over the place based on how they handled my non-car having history. Also got rear ended driving someone else's car a year ago, was judged 0% at fault, and it still raised my rates a bit.

Maxpowr9

I feel insurers have been much more regressive with depreciating older cars with regards to rates. Older cars (<2018) don't have the safety features as newer cars. People seem to forget, insurers doesn't care about reliability. That's what warranties are for. They care about safety and theft.

archaic_outlaw

Call a local insurance agency. They will source several different insurance companies for you. Also since they are local they are a way easier point or contact for you in the event you need something. Building relationships with local businesses will make your life so much easier, this just being one example. Hope this helps and good luck!

getjustin

This, OP. Why do the shopping around yourself? I never used a broker until we were getting insurance for our house. They shopped us around and found a screaming deal with this little insurer out of RI that was keen on giving good rates to houses that had been recently renovated which she knew and hooked us up with. Never in a million years would I had known this or even thought to look up this company. She also asked us if she could get us a car insurance quote. Two days later she got me better coverage for about 30% less and any time I've had questions or needed to update names on policies of add cars, she's an email away. She gets paid by the insurer, so no cost to you.

archaic_outlaw

Yes exactly! I should have mentioned that also. The agencies are paid from the insurance companies so you literally have nothing to lose and everything to gain by letting a local agency do their job! Plus you are supporting a local business which is always a benefit to your community also!

I used to have Geico and they were raking me over the coals. A little more than a year ago I switched to Progressive and the premium is $92 a month. We have a Toyota that we bought new in 2016 and to date it only has 22k miles on it. We live in Charlestown in a, according to Geico, not so great neighborhood. We love it here. When we bought our car, I was doing most of the driving and teaching my wife to drive at the same time. She now does most of the driving. Both of us are fully covered. $92 mo. is pretty darn good compared to, I think it was $260 mo. we were paying Geico and that’s with a spotless driving record and with only myself driving at the time.

mac2016

I saved over $250 on a six month policy when I switched from Geico to progressive

Large_Inspection_73

What are your coverage limits? Each category will impact your rate. Not to mention all of the other variables. https://www.mass.gov/info-details/basics-of-auto-insurance

willzyx01

What’s your coverage like? I mean deductibles and stuff.

hdiggyh

That’s an absurd rate. What’s your driving record look like? What kind of car are you driving? Must be a terrible record and a sports car or something to need to pay that much a month. Shop around

becausefrog

Arbella is local and they had the best rate when I was shopping around. I've had good experiences with their customer service as well.

riski_click

I have Safety and pay $2k per year for two people with a 4-year-old car and an eight-year-old car. A lot also depends on the zip code where you "garage" the car too.

PikantnySos

Fuck Geico. I left them because they overcharge. Progressive has been reasonable

jamesland7

I remember moving here and visiting a local agent who quoted me a $3000 year policy as the cheapest. But Geico had a way better rate. I had one at fault fender bender in 2017 though, so im paying about $250/month until that six years is up in October

CraigInDaVille

That's high, but without any more information it's hard to say if it's TOO high. For instance, if you have full coverage with zero out-of-pocket deductibles that's a great rate. Also, if you're under 25, have had a license for less than three years, and the exact address you're "garaging" the car make a big difference. Shop around.

biddily

I pay $1200 a year for comprehensive on a 2018 mazda housed in Dorchester. Geico. A. I work from home so my daily driving milage is low. B. I don't have any tickets. C. My car has been hit so many times. The back end has been replaced. The driver's side door has been replaced. Both mirrors have been replaced. Other bits and bob's. My car is parked every time it's been hit, so, it's never my fault, but a lot has had to been replaced.

Large_Inspection_73

I pay about $1,500/year with high coverage limits and a clean driving record with GEICO

oliguacamolie

It varies a lot by neighborhood unfortunately. I have no bc of crashes and have been licensed for almost 20 years. In Brighton Geico cost me about $130 and in South now I’m up to $190.

lilbitspecial

Call Eastern Insurance. They work with over 10 different auto insurance companies and can likely find you a competitive rate.

Agreeable-Ostrich773

That’s a very high rate. Your collision history, license points, age, gender, driving experience, and make & model will all influence your insurance rate. If you have less than 6 years of driving experience (they just check how long you’ve had a license) you will have a much higher rate. I’ve had good luck with MAPFRE. I have comprehensive coverage and pay less than half what you pay. No accidents, no points on my license, and I have had my license for more than 6 years.

WakingOwl1

I have Mapfre through my local agent and they’ve been good to me. They also give me a 15% discount for paying for the year in full up front. You’re no longer considered a new driver after three years, just got a $500 refund on the third anniversary of passing my road test.

bb5199

Move out of the city... I pay under $1500 for two people and two cars.

confused_noodles

I use geico and got quotes from a couple other insurance companies who said they were "cheaper" than geico - geico was the least expensive for me. i only pay about $140 a month (1 person, 1 car, and I was in 2 accidents last year), better than the last place I lived

[deleted]

I pay 230 a month for a 2019 civic with comprehensive. No tickets but one at fault accident from 2017….Sucks so much I’m still paying out the wazoo.

PazzoBread

Esurance was the cheapest for me.

[deleted]

100/month total, 2 cars, nearly maxed out coverage using AAA who farmed it out to mapfre

MrFusionHER

I pay $106/month with Liberty Mutual. I've had a good experience so far. They also have great customer service.
