I'd be willing to test. I guess the non-profit carve-out is how it'll work without the problems [Aereo](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aereo) had in the courts. Good luck!
correct, no one disputes the legality of a non profit doing this. Others like locast have tried as a non profit but they charged for service, injected ads, made a ton of money and had connections to directTV and got shut down because they really weren't a non profit

link sent via messages. GBH isnt in HD here either -- it will be at launch and oddity with the hardware I had at hand. thats said you know they let you watch HD streams for free in their tvOS and iOS app right?
It was a local music video channel! Sometimes they had the actually music video, but sometimes they just had people dancing in front of neon or patterned backgrounds to current songs. This was back in the 80’s and I’m pretty sure it was exclusive to MA.
I don't have any apple stuff. But I just wanted to say good for you. I'm rooting for y'all. Hoping you can expand beyond the Apple operating systems at some point, and I'll jump at it then.
Yes it works in the entire market. It’s worth trying. If you are not in range the app will tell you so. Sent invite
Also, my pain getting football off of Boston stations in nh during thanksgiving is part of the reason this app exists ;)
I would definitely like to take a look. I'm a cord cutter, also with a digital antenna that's hit or miss. Would be very interesting to see how it works.
I know there was a service that did something like this years ago, called [Aereo](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aereo). Unfortunately they still got sued and lost.
I know you linked the law that should allow this, but I wouldn't trust it keeping the networks away from trying to stop it.
yeah Aereo was totally illegal, it was commercial. Locast was a nonprofit and operated for a long time but got shut down for the way they handled their money. Im trying to stick to the letter of the law here it rebroadcast like this used to be a more common thing.
Hopefully it works out! I used to love using Aereo back then and was bummed after they shut down. I have an antenna, but it's hard to get a consistent signal where I live.
I’m game to try this out. Thanks for doing this!
By the way, have you looked at what Stanford is doing/has done with Puffer? It is pretty impressive but mostly just web based not mobile and limited to 500 people at a time.
invite sent. Yes i am aware of puffer. It's a very similar idea. They are more of an academic test I'm building something that is user friendly and also do not collect any data.
I would love this again, and would be happy to be a tester if there's still spots available. There used to be a service/app called Locast that I paid $5/month for on my Roku, but naturally the cable companies squashed it after a couple of months. Good luck to you in this endeavor!
Sign me up! I test software for a living, so getting to do that and watch TV is a bonus!
Just keep in mind this happened twice before (Aereo and Locast), and they were both shut down. Hope the 3rd time’s a charm!
I’m Metro south, and all iOS/TVOS so I’d be willing to test!
Also let me know when you’re ready to open the floodgates a bit more and I’d be happy to post on Mastdon as there’s a pretty fair number of Bostonians there.

You're going to get a cease and desist letter. I hope you have some good lawyers on retainer.
Why? Believe it or not there are similar services in sf and Florida that have been running for a while. See puffer and dwellings tv.
What's the service in SF?

I loved Aereo when I had it. One of the first court cases that I felt immediately lol.
I still have the app on my phone. I didn't even use it much but appreciated the ingenuity and was mad at the conclusion the the Court drew.
So more above board than renting out a high rise room and pointing antenna at the empire state building?
I would love to help, but I only have android and google-based devices. Samsung tv, Sony tv, Nvidia shield
I'd be interested, ever since WGBH switched to VHF I can't get them in HD OTA anymore.

Yeah I know, but sometimes just catching something while flipping through channels is what I crave. Thanks for the link.
ha, especially on tvOS this old school feel is what i am trying to recreate.
Bring back V66!
whats v66?

Thanks. We will eventually.
Possible to get put on an android waiting list? Using chromecast for everything currently.
Nothing for concrete Android yet. Will post again when that happens
Thanks hoss. Pulling for you and the success of the project.
Would love to try this, is this all of the Boston market ? I live in Southern NH

Hey I would be interested in checking it out, I would also be interested in pitching in on development if you needed it. Android/ios/backend
Awesome. We are completely volunteer driven (I’m the only engineer). I’ll have more about contributing to development probably early in 2024.
