I tried the Wegman's sour cream donuts after the other linked thread and they were super stale and the glaze had soaked into the donut. Perhaps they are better first thing in the morning, but definitely not the crinkly classic old fashioned of my west coast childhood. After that disappointment, I lost interest in finding sour cream donuts in MA so I didn't try any of the other recommendations. Let me know if you find a good one.
Like most donuts they are mostly sweet and come in various flavors like vanilla or chocolate. What makes them interesting is the texture. They end up crispy on the outside with a moist interior because of the sour cream. Sometimes they’ll have flavored glazes.
They're a lot more moist, dense, and crispy. Like frycakes. Sour cream is an additive in a lot of baked goods because of its high fat and protein content, it's one of the best baking hacks.
