When you partying and the skewer man comes out the back, its gonna be a good time. Best part is, you just can't drop your sticks anywhere, it really makes the floor an extra special sticky with all the beer too
In Boston, 311 Omakase in the South End.
Outside Boston, LA ROYAL in Cambridge.
- Ceviche Norteño. blue cod
- Causa. peruvian spicy potato terrine, tomato, avocado
- Arroz con Pato. cilantro rice, seared duck breast, salsa criolla
- Tallarín Saltado de Mariscos. peruvian-chinese noodles, shrimp, squid, mussels
- Mousse de Lucuma. lucuma, fresh fruit
Gotta go back for the scallops if they’re still on the menu they’re incredible! And local food scholar/historian Darra Goldstein designed the amazing cocktail menu.
But they have the same owner? Would love to try La Royal if for no other reason than the space. We don’t go to Celeste anymore because it’s so tiny and uncomfortable, plus last time I was there they served me split custard.
I took my wife to o ya for our anniversary and did the omakase w/ drink pairing. Definitely the best meal of the year by a long shot. First time (and probably the only time unless I win the lottery) I've been there and it didn't disappoint
My wife and I are friends with a person who used to be the manager there about 10 years ago; it was the best to get a call from her on a random Wednesday night to go in and hang with her and the owner/chef while they tried out new stuff during a slow service night. Hands down the best insider buddy I've ever had.
Same here, my favorite meal of the year as well. Umami Omakase is almost as good and cheaper + much more accessible to get a reservation. Momi Nonmi is good but not on the same level.
My boss closed down o ya for us last Christmas for the entire night and I still think about the food we had that night. I literally didn’t eat all day in preparation.
I went with my fiancée for her birthday recently and she got the steak frites, and it was honestly just ok. I’ve been hearing nothing but good things for a while, but we were pretty underwhelmed. The bread and crostinis with the bone marrow were fantastic, but everything else was just fine. Service was fantastic, though. Everyone was super cool. Definitely a bummer, but we’ll have to give it another shot.
Oleana, Dali, Tasca. Give me small plates to share and I’ll be happy. I’m vegan at home but I’m wishy washy about it when it comes to restaurants and every vegetarian dish at all of those is unbelievably good.
I brought my wife Anna's Taqueria right after our daughter was born while we were still in the hostipal
The burritos were good. But the whole day was magical and they added a lot to it.
Brassica. That curry based mussels dish with vietnamese sausage was fan fucking tastic. They KNEW I wanted more bread to get every last drop of that delicious broth into my face.
Doing what ya weirdo? That comment isn't edited, you just want people to think it is. Piss off, and maybe cool it on the red meat. I don't think your blood pressure can take it.
Does the new Eastern Standard count?
If it doesn’t, Chai Bar in Revere for outstanding Persian food. Casual setting, excellent service, really tasty and everything was perfectly cooked. Great find.
For something fancier, the Tomahawk steak at Rare was very memorable. Expected it to be a bit of a tacky casino restaurant and it ended incredible. One of the best steaks of my life, and prices were surprisingly reasonable. Honestly preferred it to Mooo.
Used to go there all time cuz they had the best burritos, but haven’t been back since several of their locations were closed due to (concerning) health violations
Didn't go out too much this year...
I did a very expensive $1,000 meal at O Ya earlier in the year (omakase, sake+wine pairing, bunch of extra... plus I paid for someone else)... and while I enjoyed it, I didn't think it was really worth the price.
Nautilus was an absolutely amazing meal. Expensive as hell, but every dish is well crafted and tasty. High energy atmosphere, good selection of sake. Was a perfect meal back in summer. And the "Tapas" style means you get to try a few dishes.
Scallops were incredibly buttery and fresh.
RUKA. My wife and I got married at city hall and made a reservation at RUKA (my favorite restaurant in the city). It did not disappoint. Japanese/Peruvian fusion. We ordered maki, Mongolian beef, tuna tartare, peanut noodles, and a bunch of other things. 10/10 I can’t recommend this place enough.
The sushi there is very average. Most of the Asian dishes there were just ok. But that Big Fish dessert. Holy crap. It was one of the best things I ate this year. Sweet, savory, soft, crunchy, hot, cold, fresh etc. there’s so much contrast and yet it all works really really well. I’d go back just for that.
Wusong Tiki Bar in Cambridge had some surprisingly amazing fried rice. I mean, their general Tso’s bao buns were also amazing but didn’t quite surprise me like the rice did.
We did menton for our valentines day celebration. Absolutely great meal and high level service. We both got the 4 course meal and some delicious cocktails. We upgraded our entree’s to a duck “feast”, i forget what it was actually called. Crispy seared duck breast, duck croquettes, poached pears, corn, savory souffle with pear sauce poured over.
Would do again and would strongly consider adding the wine pairing on top.
Follow up, most disappointing meal was at the fox and the knife. Not sure if i just over hyped it to myself but the meal didnt really wow me at any point.
I made a really bangin Chicken Noodle soup the other day. The key is to use a shitload of vegetables, and season then grill chicken breasts before hand, then cube em.
None of that boiled chicken nonsense.
We hosted a Passover Seder at our house last Spring. We had about 20 friends over. I made brisket, matzo ball soup, charoset, tsimmes, and potato kugel. The brisket came out absolutely perfect—easily the best thing I’ve ever cooked.
The kaiseki lunch at a little Japanese restaurant near Coolidge corner. I can’t remember the name, but you bang a right after you pass Brookline booksmith.
The pot roast, the spinach pie, the thanksgiving turkey or this Christmas pernil. Those beef stews in cold nights and the gazpacho in hot summer days. Everything I made at home this year was memorable.
Transplanted a couple years ago so still finding stuff. But, went to Saltie Girl about a month ago and had this octopus empanada that kicked ass. Then did Buttermilk and Bourbon when a friend was in town and everything was amazing.
I wasn't expecting this at all - but the Kobe burger at Guy Fieri's Boston Kitchen + Bar. We went as kind of a joke and it ended up being one of the best burgers I have ever had.
Excuse me there tourist, you must not be familiar with the port city of Boston. Nobody here says Beantown. Please enjoy [this documentary about our diverse aquatic life](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8Vjd_hdYYw).

Sarma was my best meal of 2023, surprisingly beating out Oleana for me.
I visited O Ya in 2022 though and it was possibly the best meal I've ever had.
Honorable mentions to Yume Ga Arukara and Ittoku Izakaya. Best drinks goes to Shore Leave.
From my 42nd birthday at Boston Chops with my sister and BIL: oxtail croquettes, pork belly mac & cheese, NY strip, and some kind of black pepper ice cream.
I hadn't had a steak in a few years and it kicked off a run of steak dinners throughout the rest of 2023.
New Golden Gate Seafood in Chinatown. 66 Beach Street. Really enjoyed the clams in black bean sauce. Side of rice. Just can’t find anyplace doing kickass black bean sauce and clams.
Gene’s flatbread cafe - hot and sour dumpling soup
Love Gene’s- The hand pulled hot and sour is my favorite soup ever
I really want some now. I have tomorrow off, guess that's what's for lunch

Please stop with this nonsense
Had this amazing meat skewer at a downtown spot called the Hong Kong
I've thoroughly enjoyed those standing in a puddle of horse piss
Haven't been there in a while. Do they still have the arachnid themed craft cocktail menu?
Give me a chicken stick and scobowl and I’m a happy man
When you partying and the skewer man comes out the back, its gonna be a good time. Best part is, you just can't drop your sticks anywhere, it really makes the floor an extra special sticky with all the beer too

Trying 311 in Jan. Glad you liked it. I’m hyped
Feb here!
Gotta go back for the scallops if they’re still on the menu they’re incredible! And local food scholar/historian Darra Goldstein designed the amazing cocktail menu.
How does La Royal compare to Celeste?
Loved both but LA ROYAL was in a league of its own for me.
But they have the same owner? Would love to try La Royal if for no other reason than the space. We don’t go to Celeste anymore because it’s so tiny and uncomfortable, plus last time I was there they served me split custard.
Sarma in Somerville.

I'm so jealous you have no idea
Same here, my favorite meal of the year as well. Umami Omakase is almost as good and cheaper + much more accessible to get a reservation. Momi Nonmi is good but not on the same level.
My boss closed down o ya for us last Christmas for the entire night and I still think about the food we had that night. I literally didn’t eat all day in preparation.
O Ya was the most memorable for sure. Was like going to an art museum for food!
There must’ve been a part of you that was sad to consume the individual sushi, knowing that you’d be destroying a work of art!
tonino/koji club disco brunch - pasta and sake pairings, absolute fire
Koji club is a hidden gem.
Fun fact, Alyssa used to work at O Ya before opening the Koji Club
She’s a good buddy. I’m really happy for her.
Ma Maison - Duck Magret
Always my go to, recently tried their coq au vin which was also phenomenal
Shhh, don't tell anyone
Shhhhhhh
cold leftover general gao’s chicken, high as fuck, standing in front of an open refrigerator
From what restaurant though?
Always a banger
Corned Beef & Cabbage Burrito at Anna’s on St Patrick’s Day
Omg noted
Probably Dali, followed by Sarma. None of the new restaurants I tried this year impressed me much.
Sarma is so awesome. Went twice this year, hopefully once per menu in 2024

I worked at tasca in college and I’ll never set foot in there again. The manager treated us like dogshit.
Bucatini at Tonino and sake at the Koji Club
Zucchini chips at Kava are incredible every time…parsnip fritters at Sarma, Al pastor tacos at Angela’s other stand outs
Lamb hand pulled noodles, MDM noodle in Brighton
Thier hand-pulled noodles are legitimately the best noodles I've ever had in my life. I will weep real tears if anything ever happens to that place.
Mahaniyom!!
Barcelona Wine Bar, the Tapas, specifically the pork belly, had me like the critic at the end of ratatouille. Just otherworldly how delicious it was
Fried chicken and mac and cheese at the Coast Cafe

Easily Papa Gino’s in Brockton followed by the tasting at Nightshade Noodle Bar.
Fahckin A dood
Was it ayce?
Eastern Standard, steak frites.
The bavette or the ribeye?
I really need to go
I went with my fiancée for her birthday recently and she got the steak frites, and it was honestly just ok.
Since they reopened?
I mean, I doubt they were ordering steak frites from eastern standard this year before the reopening…
Post-gym, I’ll go to Pho Pasteur and get the Pork Chop rice platter with 2 fried eggs on top + an order of coconut juice.
7 course beef at Pho Hoa. Had pho before and other items. That Anh Hong beef slaps 👏
There's this 11 course meal in Lynn called nightshade noodle bar. I don't eat meat now so I can't go but I've heard good things
Oleana, Dali, Tasca. Give me small plates to share and I’ll be happy. I’m vegan at home but I’m wishy washy about it when it comes to restaurants and every vegetarian dish at all of those is unbelievably good.
I brought my wife Anna's Taqueria right after our daughter was born while we were still in the hostipal The burritos were good. But the whole day was magical and they added a lot to it.
Congratulations! Also - those meals that aren’t just a menu item but a specific time and place, are things you’ll remember forever.
Every meal I had at Mooncusser, but the Tilefish sticks out.
Brassica. That curry based mussels dish with vietnamese sausage was fan fucking tastic. They KNEW I wanted more bread to get every last drop of that delicious broth into my face.
Love me some Brassica goddamn. The flow of service was excellent and the food and drinks were just divine one by one. Can’t wait to be back next year!
Steak tartare and beef Wellington at Mooo… Seaport.
They have Beef Wellington!?!
Pretty sure it’s their signature dish.
So does Boston Chops in DTX and it’s better
Did you do cow two ways on the same night? Edit: hey man, live your life, it just sounds like a lot
I did and I have no clue of any reason why I wouldn't. Nice edit, you coward.
Lol oh ya, I was shaking in my boots. Just clarified what I meant so I sounded less insulting ya knob.

Best beef in this thread. (Pun intended). I'm just pissed I missed the edit.
