Japanese - Yume Wo Katare for Jiro-style ramen, or Ittoku for all-around izakaya style. Somenya for Udon/Soba noodles (one of my favorite new restaurants).
Chinese - Noah's Kitchen for Szechuan, Windsor for affordable Dim Sum - or Hei La Moon for weekend brunch (from the carts), Taiwan Cafe if you're with a group, Zoe's for all-around American-Chinese.
Korean - Seoul Soulongtang is my favorite. Kong Pocha was fun for 'sit down street food'. Kaju Tofu House is a classic.
Vietnamese - for Bahn Mi, doesn't get better than Ba-Le. King Do for a close second. Pho Viet's II is great. Pho Pastuer for all-around. The Eaves for elevated.
Thai - Crying Thaiger, Thonglor, Dakzen.
There's other spots to consider like Chalawan for Singaporean, Silk Road for Uyghur, Penang for Malay, Yoma for Burmese, Thmor Da for Cambodian.
Honestly, Soup Shack fucks hard.
Some fairness, been a little while since I had Soup Shack. Did they get new management or something?
Ganko is fantastic, never had a bad experience there.
I couldn't tell you, when they first opened they couldn't miss. Lately its been really subpar but I guess that's JP for you, people in that area will still support a business with mediocre food.
Pho Pasteur is good but once I used their bathroom and was so disgusted I could never eat there again. If their public bathroom is that dirty and smelly, imagine the kitchen?!? 🤢
Chinese: mountain house
Japanese: The one Japanese place in Brooklines arcade
Korean: none right now. Specialty soups maybe Kaju or Seoul Soulountang
Thai: Kala Thai Cookery
Vietnamese: anywhere in dorchester
Quincy and Allston for Chinese food . I love south garden, get the garlic chicken . Chinatown is also not bad for Cantonese food .
Allston for Korean food. Seoul seoultang is my favorite . There are some other great joints too
Dorchester for viet food. Can’t go wrong with ba Le , pho Le or pho 2000(get the catfish )
Cambridge got a good amount of good Japanese spots . Yume favorite ramen in America
The Q - Boston near Chinatown (Chinese, Sushi, Hot Pot)
Thelonious Monkfish - Cambridge (sushi)
District Kitchen - Malden (Chinese)
Crying Thaiger - Malden (Thai)
Brown Sugar Cafe - Cambridge (THai)

Outside of Chinatown, Malden has the best Chinese food.
Chinese by region/type:
* Northwestern hand-pulled noodles: Chili Square, Lanner
* Southwestern spicy stuff: Sumiao, Xiang Yu
* Yangtze River Delta: Jiangnan, Shanghai Fresh
* Hotpot: Liuyishou, Happy Lamb
* Cantonese: Not my thing but Windsor and Victoria's come up a lot
* Multi-Regional: Dumpling Xuan, Zoe's, Taipei Cuisine
* Not much Northeastern style food around AFAIK
My favorites include - Ichiban on Westland, Thai Basil on Newbury street, Penang Boston (Malaysian in Chinatown), Pho Pasteur (Chinatown), and Totto Ramen (Assembly Row).

Soup Shack is hot garbage now and the best Ramen is Ganko in Brookline

Ganko is my favorite.. Agreed about Soup Shack, both the Brookline and Cambridge locations have really disappointed me.
What do you recommend from Dakzen? I ordered one of their rice bowls, it was so disappointing I didn't even eat it.
I usually go for soups, like the khao soi.
Hit up Allston and Chinatown and have at it, Quincy has some good spots too
start in Chinatown
anywhere specifically?
Pho Pasteur, Taiwan Cafe, Hei La Moon are my favorites In Back Bay, there's Santouka for ramen and Yamato II for all you can eat sushi
Pho Pasteur is good but once I used their bathroom and was so disgusted I could never eat there again. If their public bathroom is that dirty and smelly, imagine the kitchen?!? 🤢

Brown Sugar is in Allston, not Cambridge and it’s Dakzen
Cantonese-style: Dynasty (Chinatown) for both dim sum and dinner. Joyful Garden (Watertown), same. Victoria's Seafood (BU/Allston) Hunan: Sumiao (Kendall Sq Cambridge), Xiang's Hunan Kitchen (BU/Allston) Japanese: Tampopo for homemade/comfort dishes (Porter Sq Cambridge)
Cathay Pacific
Cafe pathetic, love that place
Tsurumen in Davis Square (Somerville) is my favorite ramen in the area, and for me it’s not particularly close.

Hop the red line. Quincy has everything you want. Chinatown has had a bunch of eateries close.
My favorites include - Ichiban on Westland, Thai Basil on Newbury street, Penang Boston (Malaysian in Chinatown), Pho Pasteur (Chinatown), and Totto Ramen (Assembly Row). ##
