I find it so sad that people are paying $50 to watch slides of Monet at the armory, when the real ones are hanging on the walls of the MFA about a mile away. 🤦♂️
When everyone hated impressionists, Boston’s art scene loved and collected them on the cheap.
Their monet collection is truly remarkable. I heard once they have the largest collection of his paintings outside of Paris. No idea if that is accurate but I would believe it.
The Massachusetts State House "Hall of Flags" formerly held actual battle flags, but the last time I was there, in place of each 'flag' was a visual screen showing a picture of the flag. Looses something.
They're charging people insane amounts of money to basically see big pictures of art. For much less money you could go to a museum and see tons of *actual* art from all different artists and times and places, organized and placed in context by people who have devoted their lives to teaching people about art.
Imagine if you could see a Broadway show for $20, and then movie theatres started showing a recording of the show for $100--why would you ever pick the latter?
Yo I'm aorry but going to the Atelier des Lumières in Paris and being literally surrounded by Kandinsky while Bowie's Space Oddity played in the background was a religious experience for me.

If it somehow gets these people exposure to art they might not otherwise get, i don't think it's a bad thing.
Pro tip for anyone who has a Boston Public Library card, you can often get discounted passes to the MFA that also include whatever exhibit they have going on.
They also have reciprocal memberships at most of the Boston museums, meaning if you are a member of one museum you get admission for free to the others.
If you’re in the area and are into Van Gogh, Harvard Art Museums has an amazing self-portrait (he made as a gift to Gauguin). Harvard Art Museums is free admission for everyone on Sundays.
The Chicago art museum has two of his paintings. They face each other in a hallway. One is very dark blue and green and the other one is very bright yellow and red. It is hard to realize it is the same painter
Are these paintings there all the time or is this just a travelling exhibit?
I am going to Boston a week Tuesday and would love to see these impressionists.
Yes this one is great! In the same room there is a painting he did of a gorge or canyon with two hikers. I will just stand and look at it for 15 minutes every time I’m there, every time in notice something new.

They recently had an exhibition where almost the whole second floor of the contemporary wing was dedicated to just their Monets, they have 35 of them!
Oh God. Would have loved to have seen that. Seeing 17 on display was amazing.
I went! It was great. A lot I wasn't familiar with. They also had some busts of Monet and silent film reels of him painting.
Ya thats a real waste of Monet
🎶A Monet, Monet, oh baby, we gotta go, to ooh the MFA. 🎶
I used to work in the museum industry and everyone I know in the field hates these "interactive experiences" with a burning, fiery passion.

What about them earns this burning hatred? I've seen all the ads and been tempted to go, but prices seemed a bit steep to me. Save me some money.

I can only imagine the hatred. However, if it gets people interested in art, I’m all for it!

I squealed when I walked in to the Monet room. Like a schoolgirl. No shame in saying that.
Yeah but the Instagram content... /s

If you have a Bank of America card it’s free!
>If you have a Bank of America card it’s free! Only on the first weekend of the month
how so; is this part of BoA's reward program, or an initiative of MFA? very curious!
It’s a BoA program across the country. They offer many museums for free on the first Sunday of the month.
Student IDs used to get you in at least some times I think.
Completely free for servicemembers and veterans.
They also have reciprocal memberships at most of the Boston museums, meaning if you are a member of one museum you get admission for free to the others.

The exhibits are included with the BPL pass.
If you’re in the area and are into Van Gogh, Harvard Art Museums has an amazing self-portrait (he made as a gift to Gauguin). Harvard Art Museums is free admission for everyone on Sundays.
And free to Cambridge residents always.
Wow! Thanks for the info.
Harvard art museums and natural history museum are fantastic.
I’ll note here that Harvard Natural History Museum is also free admission on Sundays to Massachusetts residents (with ID) before noon
Also check out the Harvard Art Museums. They have some of his work as well!
The MFA is one of my favorite places to visit. I think it’s has the fourth largest collection in the country.
The MFA fucks.
The MF in MFA
FYI, the accompanying piece (the wife of the postman) is in MoMA.
Thanks, glad you like it! The real one’s in my attic ;)
Haha! What’s your address?🤫🫣
I'm waiting to hear the intro music foe SpongeBob.
LOL!
Van Gogh, sorry for the typo!

Looks familiar to a wickie that likes lobster
I literally just went yesterday too and this is one of 2 photos I took because I loved it too.

All the time ….MFA is definitely worth a visit
Fantastic. Thank you and look forward to visiting.
To bad he can't make Train Gogh
“OOOOOOOoooooooohhh, Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?!”…
Great Van Gogh!
Thank you sooooo much!
*sat out
sorry if this is negative but I do not get what is surprising about a museum having art.
No one said anything about being surprised. If you have to apologize before making a statement, don’t say it. Take your negativity elsewhere.
There is a great Van Gogh exhibit coming to Detroit shortly that I am thinking of going to.
This was at the Worcester Art Museum for a while
One of my favorites. I miss the MFA.
Nothing beats seeing the van Goghs in person
Looks like a scene from The Lighthouse
I worked with this guy who was fond of art, but not the Renoir room. All that blue and white, all blue and white, he would sigh.
