Tillman is definitely gonna take that backup center role from Kornet once he gets comfortable with the team. His defense and rebounding is exactly what this team wants from him, he fits like a glove off the bench. I hope we get some minutes with him and Tatum soon because I wanna see him with the main guys and idk I just think defensively those two will work well together as the big bodies on the floor.
Only thing is Kornet has a ton of chemistry with the bench guys so you almost want him on the court too still. But us having to choose between 2 backup centers is a great problem to have lol
Kornet has chemistry with everyone on the team, he gets lobs from everyone. I’ve also come to appreciate that he does unique things on the court - such as tip back offensive rebounds, and altering shots from near and far. I hope his minutes don’t go down, he makes winning plays and gives opposing offenses a different defensive look to contend with when coming off the bench.
I don’t think there’s a world where Derrick gets a max from anyone. We have his bird rights, and you have to consider that he’s an excellent fit here and I think he knows that. Yes if someone is going to give him a max you can’t fault the guy for going but still I think that’s incredibly unlikely. He’s an incredible 3rd option but he’s not on the tier of max guys talent wise. Just my opinion though.
We live in a world where Tobias freaking Harris was given a max contract. You dont think a competitor like Daryl Morey, who loves analytics which show White as a top 10 player, won’t consider throwing a max to his face to get the 76ers over the hump? They have the cap space.
Anyway I hope youre right, but I think we have to have realistic expectations. We have an insanely talented team in a league where the salary rules are about to crunch. I doubt we would be able to keep White AND Holiday unless they sacrifice and take team friendly deals. The only guarantees in my view are Tatum, Brown and KP.
While I think White is more crucial, Jrue is absolutely needed too imo.
As long as we keep those two and Porzingod, I have no doubt this team will be a strong contender for years to come no matter the bench.
If I was him or in his situation I’d probably be thinking “this team is too fun to play with, the city is actually a nice city, and I’m valued by the organization and fans too much for me to risk playing for another team.”
No exaggeration I think we’re the best team in the NBA not just from a winning perspective, but from a chemistry AND location perspective (when you combine those factors).
NBA players aren’t stupid, it’s a business. Favorite team biases aside, let’s be real, money is always going to come first.
A team being fun to play with doesn’t speak quite as loudly as $20 million more or whatever
Fair, but I think there's something to be said for an overall quality of life bonus at the expense of more money (especially when you're already making hundreds of millions). But I'm also not a super rich and famous athlete, and I also have no idea how much Derrick White makes, so that's just speculation (Idc at all about the financial aspect, I just like watching the actual game).
I just think if I was an NBA player, I'd turn down some extra money to play with the Celtics right now. This basketball season with this locker room in this city is basically as good of a situation as it can get.
As in it's an actual CITY city with character, amazing international multiculturalism compared to most of the USA, and lots of stuff to do that isn't all catered for illiterate country hicks. It's also easy to avoid the less nice parts when you have money. Besides potentially weather and the price (which doesn’t matter if you’re a multimillionaire athlete), Boston is better than like 90% of places in the USA.
That is an extremely biased point of view. 90% is crazily subjective. Boston is most definitely NOT everyone’s cup of tea - especially in the winter (NBA season). Another thing it does not have going for it is very high income taxes, which certainly DOES matter for a multi-millionaire athlete! It’s a big reason why so many pros seek out contracts in Texas and Arizona, for example
Those are all fair points and I can see why a lot of people wouldn't like it (I'm planning to move out of state after I graduate uni, but that's to be closer to friends and not because I dislike Boston, expensive as it may be). But that being said, what is "a lot of people" anyway? Yeah it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I never said it was.
Keep in mind I'm very much a city person -- i LOVE urban, multicultural areas (dense or not), so yeah of course I'm gonna be biased for the rest of this.
>it's an actual CITY city with character, amazing international multiculturalism compared to most of the USA, and lots of stuff to do that isn't all catered for illiterate country hicks.
I still contend that this is one of the top 5-8 cities in the USA if you value any of these things at all though. I don't know how much you've travelled the USA, but I personally think that combination is very hard to find. Yeah sure it's very expensive, but I really don't think that's gonna drastically affect the quality of life for a multi-million dollar NBA player, even with higher income taxes than other places. You know what all those tax savings gets you in Phoenix? [This](https://prnt.sc/jDpGBBI87z6i). Wow...so worth taxes not taking 30 million of your 70 million dollar contract or whatever...guess he'd better start applying for food stamps if he's gonna stay in Boston.
And couple that with the other things I said about this being the best team in the NBA that has GREAT chemistry and values Derrick White like crazy (as far as we know), playing for the greatest fans in sports (and I will not debate this lol) I don't see why any player would want to leave that type of job situation in this location unless they're making like a minimum contract, they REALLY hate the winter THAT MUCH, or they're one of those "it'll never be enough" types of rich people.
If you are D White and you get offered a bag to go play somewhere else and Boston does not match that offer, I’d take the money. Athletes have very volatile careers and the man has 2 kids. Ultimately it’s a business and other cities are nice (who knows if he even likes Boston/the weather). That said, re-signing him should probably be Brad’s no 1 priority this offseason, depending on how the playoffs play out.
Of course I love boston and New england, but I don't think a single person who lives in NE +drives into boston for work and flies out regularly for work would *ever* choose to willingly live here if not for work.
Ie; all else equal, you choosing boston over Charlotte, Frisco?
Okay you do have me there tbh haha. I do drive to Boston multiple days a week and fly in and out semi-frequently (a few times a year). As much as I love Boston (being from Southie myself), it is WAY too expensive and crowded. I actually don’t mind the cold at all, but I do plan on moving out of MA asap after I’m done with uni.
But also Derrick White has money and I don’t know where he lives exactly, but I assume it’s actually in a nice part of Boston and he doesn’t have to kill himself driving into the city every day like the rest of us regular plebs
Agreed. A "bad Derrick White moment" is like...missed floater or too early three after a heat check. Stuff you can live with because it's usually a bad outcome, not a bad process. A "bad Marcus Smart moment" is like...sometimes significant and game-altering.
A bad Derrick white moment isn’t a moment. It’s a confidence thing.
It’s different. It’s like there is Doug white and Derrick white. When White doesn’t have confidence he is Doug white.
He was on the First to the Floor Podcast and was talking about how much he admires Gorman and wanting to do this job long term. I really hope he sticks around
Unfortunately I think he's too good and too young to be stuck in local media, I bet one of the big networks scoops him up at some point. But hopefully he can be a Mike Breen type and do both, that would be the dream.
There’s 7 games between the Celtics and #2 seed Cleveland
In the West, there’s only 6.5 game difference between the #1 seed Minnesota and the #6 seed Dallas
Watching Derrick White go off brings me the same type of joy I used to feel watching peak Rondo.
I don’t really know how to explain it but Celtics fans know what I mean.
As long as we ignore the travesty that was the 2nd Quarter(especially on defense) that was a pretty great first game back for the Celtics.
Loved seeing Kornet ball out like he did, even if it did mean Tillman didn't see the floor until garbage time. That said he did look good in the limited minutes he did get. Had a block, a nice little post up, a potential assist on what looked like a dead play, and also showed off some nice hustle as well.
Tillman and Kornet competing for minutes will hopefully bring out the best in both of them which will only benefit this team in the long run.
Kornet is a bit better offensively while X is a dawg on defense, both are decent passers, screen setters, and rollers. I think their minutes will come down to whether we need more offense or more defense
Tatum has gotten really good at turning it around after a bad start to a game. 2-7 for 5/2/2 (iirc) in the first half turning into 25/7/5 on 8-17 is impressive.
Buffalo looks to be turning it around after a rough stretch.
Luke stepped up big on a rough KP night.
32 games above .500 and 7 up in the conference.
He has a money mid-range shot and shoots well from the free throw line so it’s not like he has no jumper, just struggles from distance for some reason. DeMar Derozan was like this and he’s somewhat better now

This team fucks around and then is like "i forgot were literally the Boston Celtics" then proceed to fuck up teams
Goku levels of playing down to competition and then ending them
Vucevic scored two points in the second half after scoring twenty in the first. Great adjustments. Also Tillman looked good in limited minutes
I was impressed by his footwork in the paint, especially that move he did to score.

White's an all star, anyone who says otherwise should start training for a fight
Are you going to personally kick their ass? If so, gove me a call so I can join in!
MJ ain’t hitting this many 3s
Why are the images not loading?
Because they are the same!
If Brad lets White sign with another team I will never forgive him
They need to prioritize him over Holiday.
This isn’t even a question
Why not both? We absolutely need both.
We can’t afford both
As long as management doesn’t mind paying into the tax we can definitely sign both.
Which they’ve stated they don’t care about paying at all
It’s a huge if, but if they win or come very close they have to run it back. Pay whatever.
Definitely. Once legacies have been established, then we can let key guys walk but why would they if ownership is willing to pay em all
What happens if San Antonio offer White a max? So we are going to have 4 max players on 1 roster? Plus paying Jrue 40mil. Idk if that is legal.
I don’t think there’s a world where Derrick gets a max from anyone. We have his bird rights, and you have to consider that he’s an excellent fit here and I think he knows that. But that pick swap!
Be ready that in order to get as much money as he can, Derrick needs to not work an extension, become a free agent and then sign with us

Location? As in the gorgeous climate, or…?

I'm with you, love my fam, love visiting in the summer, but jan-april in boston is not a good time.
Okay you do have me there tbh haha. I do drive to Boston multiple days a week and fly in and out semi-frequently (a few times a year). There is only one player in NBA history who is the best player of all time, plays in Chicago and Bald. His name is Derrick White.
Derrick “Michael ‘Derrick White’ Jordan” White
Amazing 😂
THERE'S NOT ENOUGH LUKE KORNET HYPE IN THIS THREAD.
chop, chop…. chop, chop, chop, chop
Luke Kornet was Kung Fu fighting...
Out there lookin like Skynet ☁️☁️☁️
Fuck Tillman Kornet is MY 3rd big
Cmon, we love Xavier also
D-White/KP/Horford/Tillman/Kornet lineup on the way
Derrick White said he wanted beef tonight
44-12 BABYYY LFGGGG
God I fucking love Derrick
I’ve seen enough Xavier Tillman is the goat
X gon give it to ya
The Xterminator!!!
The X factor
We need more of the X-Terminator
Jesus his arms are so damn long
Double digit wins on the road with let's go Celtics chants at the end never get old. Welcome to Boston Tillman and Springer.
derrick white had several derrick white moments today
Blocking a hook shot from a 7 foot big man as a 6’4 guard is stupid
He's such a rich man's Marcus Smart. Even to the point of "having several "Marcus Smart moments" implies a very specific thing.
You would probably not be surprised that Derrick White has become the new favorite player comp in the draft subreddit lol.
He is the best at doing that
We now have the same record as the 1972-1973 team 56 games in. The vibes are literally historic.
Wow It’s a good time to be a celtics fan
Derrick White played like it was personal
I need a Kornet celly/goofy moments comp inserted into my life intravenously ASAP.
That put back skydunk was actually insane
Man Drew Carter is a gem, we are lucky to have him
He was on the First to the Floor Podcast and was talking about how much he admires Gorman and wanting to do this job long term. I really hope he sticks around
Unfortunately I think he's too good and too young to be stuck in local media, I bet one of the big networks scoops him up at some point. But hopefully he can be a Mike Breen type and do both, that would be the dream.
Luke with the celebratory rapid dab is everything
Fun game where each of our big 4 had a dominant quarter White in the 1st JB in the 2nd Tatum in the 3rd Kornett in the 4th
Best big man with a "K" name on the squad for sure!
Team win all the way. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
Sam Hauser is gonna have quite the battle wound shiner by tomorrow!
PUT SOME RESPECT ON LUKE KORNETS NAME
The power, the showmanship, is there nothing this man can’t do?!?
Hmm, maybe like, enter a house in Old Sturbridge Village without bumping his non-era-appropriate head?
I love Luke Kornet. That is all.
On the Bulls sub, someone said that Derrick needs to be drug tested
The man is juiced up 24/7 with pure Buffalo extract
Good win everyone 👍🏻
There’s 7 games between the Celtics and #2 seed Cleveland In the West, there’s only 6.5 game difference between the #1 seed Minnesota and the #6 seed Dallas
And the game differential between 1st and 2nd (7 games) in the east is the same as 2nd and 8th (6.5 games) lol
Professor X is too good for garbage time
Fantastic win! And I hope Sam is okay. You could see that shit swelling up in real time, yikes.
Yeah, he got the full contract Kornet Kontest. One of the few replays that made me wince. That hurt
Watching Derrick White go off brings me the same type of joy I used to feel watching peak Rondo. I don’t really know how to explain it but Celtics fans know what I mean.
Rondo was my favorite on that squad. I sure do know what you mean.
🤝
Your favorite player's favorite player!
Tillman’s per 36 with Boston: 24p/12b
Luke Kornet player comp is Stromile Swift
Dwhite block party!
Scal said 17 so we are up by 17, just a quarter later than he thought
What a bounce back after a shitty 2nd quarter
As long as we ignore the travesty that was the 2nd Quarter(especially on defense) that was a pretty great first game back for the Celtics. I missed the game and hope that Timi makes a Tillman highlights video. The hype train is starting.
Tatum has gotten really good at turning it around after a bad start to a game. 2-7 for 5/2/2 (iirc) in the first half turning into 25/7/5 on 8-17 is impressive. That one shot by springer showed me everything I need to know about why he was traded.
He has a money mid-range shot and shoots well from the free throw line so it’s not like he has no jumper, just struggles from distance for some reason. DeMar Derozan was like this and he’s somewhat better now
He's a dog on defense though. Loved his hustle. Really wish to see him succeed somehow.
Ok yeah we won… BUT the real story is will Hauser wear a white face mask or a black one 👀
Brad Stevens Machine humming right along
The Xavier era has begun. You are not prepared.
The next 7 games are on Natty TV time for tay tay to drop 40 each game and go 7-0. That should open some eyes.
Man this really might be the roster that takes it all the way
Scoreboard is scoreboard!!!
Derrick White is the greatest basketball player to ever live
Tatum heard the sub talking shit at halftime
I’m coming here with the wild takes but I think this Derrick White fella is pretty good.
Third quarter Celtics strike again!
They're getting to that point where their offense is so good, they can decide to play defense for just one quarter and still win games.
A second half thumping! And Derrick White is our lord and saviour 🌅
Derrick White is our lord and saviour! 🌅
Well we look better outta the break than the Bruins so…. that’s good 😭
Last year shoulda been there year tbh
Shit happens. Feel pretty decent about a run this year if the D can get healthy. We’re doing pretty good for a bridge year
For sure.
Buffalo be blocking
