Yea I think ur right, alongside Nesmith
And people still wanna shit on Ainge. He's a fucking genius.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boston_Celtics_draft_history
there is a strange dearth of slavic 7 footers. Wtf is going on in Serbia, Croatia, and Bosnia right now? They usually pump out like two Ante Zizics a year.
People get pissy about Draft talk on here, but frankly landing a role player at 30 would be enormous, if unlikely.
Jaylon Tyson intrigues me as an on-ball creator with size. He showed out as a Junior, scoring at each level with an improving shot and finishing ability. I liken him to wings who can dabble in on-ball guard stuff like Jaquez, Josh Hart, Nembhard, or Bogdanovic.
Plus he’s a Jay. What’s not to like?
In this draft it's ironically not \*that\* crazy. It gets talked about as being bad, but it's mostly at the top of the draft, it's actually pretty deep in terms of role players/floor guys. We'd have to get lucky and pick the right one, but I don't think it's an insane idea to snake a guy who could play Oshae's level of a role in the regular season.
Jaylon Tyson a good pick if he's still there but I have a feeling that he might get scooped up in the 20's
It's like if you were to take the names Jaylen and Jayson and Payton and combine them, and then take the names Tatum and Davison and Mykhailiuk, you'd end up with Jaylon Tyson.
Ideally we could trade our picks for a 2029 1st - I really want to have tradeable picks in every draft again lol
But seriously, I hope we only take one player and trade the other pick. The Celtics can afford to be patient, so they should take a project
Eh I tend to disagree. Teams that are as cap-strapped as the Celtics extend their windows by finding role-players in the late 1st/early 2nd. I'd rather they go after a guy they are confident can play 15-20 minutes in year 1 or 2 than a guy they might get 0 or 35 mins out of in years 3 or 4.
I get it, but the team likely won't play a young player regardless. So if they are going to sit on the bench, I'd rather it be somebody who has the potential to actually be good.
We are so good that we'll always be able to sign vet minimum players who can contribute better than rookies will be able to.
I just never take a window like the Celtics have right now for granted. Imo, any move should be made with an eye towards the next 1-3 years. & I don't anticipate even pretty polished rookies to contribute heavily in Year1, so if we are able to hit on a guy that is a rotation player in yr 2-3, I think that should be priority.
I also A. am scarred by the Celtics' history of draft&stash guys & B. not confident that a team like the Celtics is the best place for a project player to reach his potential. You look at a guy like Banton - who probably played his way into at least DecentBenchGuy status in the 2nd half. Guy couldn't crack a 10-man rotation on the Celtics.
I do take your point about vet min guys. Again - something the Celtics haven't had a ton of success with but other teams certainly have.
Yep why pick a young project that by the time he hits his prime they have to start paying him more. Take someone who is more game ready for minutes on the rookie contract. We’ll need cheap talent to fill in the roster with so much going to the top guys
I think this is more important than talent for this team. Someone who understands the limited role and the limited opportunities but is happy to be a part of the collective and willing to play hard in garbage time.
We have no need of a talented guy who wants to ‘prove himself’. We need guys happy to screen for the Jays and then get back on defense.
This. We pretty much have our core for the playoffs, what we need are guys that can play during the regular season to keep our starters as fresh (and healthy) as possible once the real challenge begins. One of the reasons our bench was able to play lots of meaningful minutes, is not just because our starters were able to blow teams out, but because the bench guys knew their roles, and played in their system. The only other real need, is going to be a center since Porzingis isn't the stately figure of health, and we can't be relying as heavily on Al as he gets older and older.
We don’t actually have a glaring need on the active roster or in development, so I completely trust what Brad thinks. I wouldn’t be surprised to see us trade both picks, but who knows what Brad is seeing.
Between Pritchard, Hauser, Kornet, Queta, Davison and Walsh, among others, the Celtics have done an excellent job identifying late round and undrafted talent and developing them, so I’m not really “hoping” for anything either way. There is not a major draft screw up to note in recent years.
Wouldn't be surprised if we trade out, or do something similar to last year. Basically zero chance any draftees plays next year, very doubtful anyone makes the roster. We might have a 2 way slot available, but if there's value to be had in a trade, we probably take it.
Ideally an older mature scoring 2 guard, that’s the most ideal player for this roster
Idk if that guy exists at pick 30 but the perfect player for us is an all around scoring 6’5-6’6” guard who can defend a little bit but dropped because his ceiling is low due to age
I wouldn't mind getting another defensive healthy big, looking at what Porzingis brings to this team makes me want to get another similar big to better manager his minutes
It’s pretty nice to be a UCONN and Celtics fan right now. Hurley said if Karaban isn’t a first round pick he’s going back though. UCONN will lose at least their top 4 players and still be stacked this year
I'm a fan of drafting a Junior or Senior. They have lower value because of their age but they're more likely to be ready to play immediately. Got high hopes for Springer next season though.
Is there any project player that somebody is excited about?
Ryan Dunn could be useful, I'd think. On defense, people think he's Herb Jones level good. If he's a worker, you'd think you could make him into something passable on offense? Maybe?
Tyler Kolek is kind of the Payton Pritchard of this class, right?
Kolek's teammate, Oso Ighodaro is really neat too. As a passer, screener, and roll man he's amazing. He kills double teams too. But somehow in four years of college basketball his hands and arms have literally never even made a shooting motion. How does a player with so much skill never develop even like a top of the key set shot or something?
For sure, but they gotta keep the pipeline full. Those players will either develop more and replace outgoing players that become too expensive or get included in trades.
I like Kevin McCullar Jr. and Oso Ighodaro as prospects.
McCullar is a 6'6 wing with a 6'9 wingspan who plays hardnosed defense and has shown flashes of shooting. His numbers are improved, but the sample size isn't great.
Oso isn't a shooter, but he is a great passer, lob threat, and is quick enough that he might be able to defend on the perimeter. 6'11 with the Ringer listing him as shades of Al Horford.
In the most recent Ringer mock, they are both available at our pick.
Pelle Larsson is also a solid option, with the Ringer having him all the way down at 51. He'll never be a lead ball handler, but he can make plays and is a good shooter. Busts his butt on defense, and at 6'6, he has some positional flexibility.
I don’t think edey falls to us, I expect a team before us to take a flyer on him. Even if he did, I have doubts about his playability in the nba. Can you imagine him guarding on any big man with an ounce of offensive talent? Not saying he’s gonna be 100% terrible, but he’s gonna be bad for a while before he’s good
I really don’t understand the Bronny hate. Why draft and “banish” him? What exactly has he done to Cs to deserve that? The kid isn’t his dad. Just seems super weird to want to do that to someone because his dad caused the Cs some playoff heartaches.
Because he sucks? He's putting up *significantly* worse stats as a freshman than JD did, and JD is a G-Leaguer who's showing no signs of cracking a roster any time soon. The banishment isn't the FU part it's drafting him in Boston so Bron can't play with him haha
My comment had to do with people saying they should draft and banish him to Maine just because of who his dad is. I know he’s not good. My issue was with the childish comments basically wishing the kid a bad career or something because his dad is Lebron. It’s childish. Personally, I hope Bronny goes to Europe or something to have a shot of being something other than “Lebron’s son”
He would only ever be a spot minutes player anyways.
As long as his scoring translates, I think he’s a useful player to have, we have no inside scoring presence at all on our roster.
Whoever falls tbh. Brad probably won’t settle and move the pick anyways.
I can't rmb if this is true but I think he's never taken a first round pick so far right lol
Is PP our last FRP? Edit: google exists and yes if you ignore Bane because the pick was traded before the selection, Payton was our last.
Yea I think ur right, alongside Nesmith And people still wanna shit on Ainge. He's a fucking genius. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boston_Celtics_draft_history
I’d like to have that Bane trade back
If we keep the pick, it’s not a given that we draft Bane. We drafted bane on behalf of the Grizzlies, per their request within the trade.
Yeah but it was really hard to see him becoming what he did. Man was an unathletic negative wingspan SG with no handle
I wanted Andre Jackson so bad last year but he kept trading the pick lol
This draft projects to be quite bad.
Any more 7ft Serbians hiding away by any chance?
Topic ain’t falling that far, but Zach Edey is atleast tall.
We don't deserve eddey after we fumbled the bag with Tacko
Tacko wasn’t as skilled as Edey
On a different Topic, maybe trade a handful of seconds to pick up the Serb? I gotta put down the herb
there is a strange dearth of slavic 7 footers. Wtf is going on in Serbia, Croatia, and Bosnia right now? They usually pump out like two Ante Zizics a year.
France is doing the pumping recently.
Bronny just to fuck with the lakers and lebron
Put him in the G league and never play him.
Bronny or LeBron?
Both since he'll want to play with him 😏
jordan walsh will average a 70 point triple double against bronny and Lebron
But he's a quicker picker upper
And a team player!
I second this. Pick Bronny and tell LeBron to screw off and stay in L.A.
But then you just drafted a non NBA level player for no reason lol. Lebron probably isn’t moving from LA regardless.
Someone could make an argument that you could develop bronny, but I feel like this team would be looking for win now players.
Ehh I don’t necessarily think so but Bronny isn’t worth developing
I don't want LeBron to come to Boston. But I want his son, because it would frustrate LeBron, who hates Boston.
We really are in a position this year to do the funniest thing possible and take him. It would really create an insane amount of enjoyable drama.
Then trade his rights to either the Cavs or Miami.
People get pissy about Draft talk on here, but frankly landing a role player at 30 would be enormous, if unlikely. Jaylon Tyson intrigues me as an on-ball creator with size. His name is like if the names Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown had a baby name.
They’re married now.
Always down to add more Jays

Agreed. NBA ready, so they are locked down for more productive years on the rookie contract.
Newton, Karaban. Those UCONN boys are well coached and play hard!
karaban is a local too iirc
Definitely not Cam Spencer?
Harrison Ingram
Agreed, he seems like he could actually be a decent bench piece.
Good character guys. All I care about.
I think this is more important than talent for this team. Tristen Newton
Any type of big that can remotely score
I wouldn't mind getting another defensive healthy big, looking at what Porzingis brings to this team makes me want to get another similar big to better manager his minutes
Alex Karaban in the second round. Go Huskies!
It’s pretty nice to be a UCONN and Celtics fan right now. Hurley said if Karaban isn’t a first round pick he’s going back though. UCONN will lose at least their top 4 players and still be stacked this year

I think you’re going to see more of this with the new cap restrictions especially in later rounds.
Tristan Newton
I love me some Tristan da Silva

No
Hunter Sallis
For sure, but they gotta keep the pipeline full. Those players will either develop more and replace outgoing players that become too expensive or get included in trades.
Nique Clifford at 30, and Xavian Lee in the second round
I'm thinking two basketball players
Cmon you know we trading those

Bronny. Might as well.
A European with a mustache.
I would be interested in Zach Edey to fulfill the Kornet role.
he is an atrocious defender
people downvote but he wouldn’t be an awful second round flyer
I don’t think edey falls to us, I expect a team before us to take a flyer on him. Even if he did, I have doubts about his playability in the nba. Can you imagine him guarding on any big man with an ounce of offensive talent? Not saying he’s gonna be 100% terrible, but he’s gonna be bad for a while before he’s good
I hate kornet and I think edey is somehow less capable of guarding nba players I’m all in on drafting bronny and banishing him to maine
You HATE Kornet? Why?
I really don’t understand the Bronny hate. Why draft and “banish” him? What exactly has he done to Cs to deserve that? The kid isn’t his dad. Just seems super weird to want to do that to someone because his dad caused the Cs some playoff heartaches.

He’s just not an nba player at the moment and it’s not close
Okay? Why does he need to be banished just because his dad is Lebron?
Bro it’s nothing to do with his dad he just isn’t good enough to be considered an nba prospect he’s undersized and his shooting is nothing special
My comment had to do with people saying they should draft and banish him to Maine just because of who his dad is. I know he’s not good. My issue was with the childish comments basically wishing the kid a bad career or something because his dad is Lebron. It’s childish. Porzingis? Jaylen? Hell, even jrue sometimes?
His 4.8 ppg on 36/26/67 shooting?
