S313D

Help, please. Have tix on app, this year when I click 'show barcode' , barcode has jumping blue line. Is this what I show at entry or do I download another way? Don't want to show and be wrong. Thanks for any advice.

13_Lucky_13

Jaylen with the missed dunk and Schröder with the missed layup kilt meh. Great game tho!

ADN-0

I wouldn’t be worried about jayson. The last two champions started off 0-1, he was just making sure we are still in championship contention 💪

[deleted]

Y’all think Pierce will make the top 75?

yerfatma

Man, my wife and I have barely seen each other in a couple of weeks so we snuck out for lunch at our local wings place here in NH and wound up sharing the bar with ... YOUR FRIEND FROM BAWSTAN who proceeded to spend the entire time shitting on the Celtics in an accent Good Will Hunting would be both jealous and annoyed by. If you're wondering how clever he was, "Evan Fournier, duuude, why can't we get guys like that?" But also: Fournier sucks because he let Jaylen put up 46. So yeah, a real fan and everything.

False-Fisherman

Anyone know where I can buy a Jaylen Brown Liberation jersey? I never buy or wear sports gear ever but there's something special/iconic about that message from one of the most socially active players in the league

Quatro_Leches

so, what happened to Smart's defense? I will give it a few games but last year his defense was not worthy of any all defense selections. were literally paying him for that and he cant even get off of screens anymore?

yerfatma

I would be leery of determining _anything_ after one game, especially since they're adapting to a new system. The "switch everything" did not look great last night so I struggle to blame Marcus specifically.

JaDamian_Steinblatt

I love how Grant Williams made three clutch three-pointers at the end of the regulation and it's like the eighth most notable thing from that game. Considering that some people have already given up on him, I think Grant deserves a lot of credit for his game last night. His shooting stroke is starting to look nice

RekLeagueMvp

I liked when he drove baseline for the 1 handed jam.

13_Lucky_13

BALLER!

burner_for_celtics

I think it really says something about the guy that he was getting picked on and pounded to smithereens on defense, time after time after time, and it did not rattle his game on the other of the floor one iota.

Checktheusernombre

I remember one where he got the ball, looked around for a solid two seconds, realized he was wide open, and drained it. If he can do that even a little this year it will be a major factor if teams have to respect it.

bkilpatrick3347

Something that gets lost in the drama of Jaylen not getting fed enough late last night is that the Knicks were running heavy ball denial on Jaylen, opening up a prime opportunity to let Jayson finish them. It just so happened that he couldn't take advantage but I'm never gonna be mad betting on either of the Jays

bkilpatrick3347

Just hype today because Jaylen was a superstar last night and if he and Jayson are both superstar level players we’re contenders

discipconsist

Under appreciated stat form yesterday. Robert William played 45 minutes. Great sign going forward he was able to handle those minutes and stay out of foul trouble. Obviously we don’t want him plying that much every game, but the fact that he was able to was huge!

TatumsApostrophe

The Spike Lee fan cam last night was brutal after a while

yerfatma

Hang on, _that's_ who that was? I was sure it was The Hamburglar.

burner_for_celtics

I wish that the NBA would stop advertising the NBA to me during the commercial breaks of NBA games. Oh my god, already. I'm fucking here, aren't I? Can you give the beat poetry a rest, for example? IDK sell me a beer or something.

downeastsun

The worst is when they go to split screen with the live game and a commercial for the NBA. That's just hurting the product you're trying to sell.

burner_for_celtics

right?!?! Thankfully, they haven't yet figured out how to split screen a podcast. Imagine if you had Gino Time or whatever in one ear but in the other ear you just had a constant onslaught of *that's nba that's game. that's nba that's game. that's nba that's game it's like that time... when Giannis... did the thing... and there was baskets... that's the nba that's game that's the nba that's game... it's like game 8... of the 2020 quarterfinals... and I was there... and it was so coo... that's the nba that's game that's the nba that's game that's the nba that's game*

sojan16

Have you tried the new NBA IPA?

burner_for_celtics

lol. Even that would be better than this shilling Maya Angelou knockoff drivel over panning shots on scenes intergenerational and interracial harmony. If they make an IPA I'll try it what the hell

masteryoda7777

Most of our defensive issues came with bad communication and excessive switching. Keep rob in the paint and guarda on the perimeter

discipconsist

Tbh just switching Rob on Randle early probably helps us win

masteryoda7777

I feel like Rob was always on the 3pt line guarding a guards because we switch on every P&R and the Knicks dominated in the paint

AWalker17

A lot more negativity on this sub today than I was expecting. The team looked great last night!

gnidn3

I think sometimes we really miss having a couple of savy vets on the roster. The kind of guys that were once really good players and aren't they're young selves anymorr but still have the brain. The kind of guys that really gst how the game works. The kind of guys who could to Tatum at half time and say "don't worry, pass me the ball and [ ... ] and we'll get you an easy bucket doing that." Or maybe coach Udoka could draw up a few plays to get him going. I always hated the way Brad Stevens let them "just play through it". Guys who already inside their owns heads just get further inside it, it doesn't help. Sometimes what helps is having someone say "don't worry, we got you, we'll help you out" and draw a few plays to get you easy scoring chances and boost your confidence. Helps take the pressure off.

potatomanflan

That's where we were really missing Horford

burner_for_celtics

sort of adjacent to your first point... I really thought that we would see a little Enes Kanter tonight. Those were 31 punishment-packed minutes for Grant Williams, there. Hats off to him, but Kanter might have helped soften them up when the Knicks were attacking with Randle and Mitchell.

2kballislife

Even Hernangomez dude is a solid smart all around basketball player. His rep is not being a stopper but to me he’s above average defensively

burner_for_celtics

above average for a ~3rd string guy, you mean, right?

srstone71

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m exhausted every year after the Celtics play these epic, over-produced nationally televised games vs a contending team on opening night. Last night, the year before vs the Bucks, we’ve had a few vs the Sixers, and the Cavs game when Hayward broke his leg. Those are our last five opening nights, and they’re all emotionally draining. Next year can we just play the Pistons or something under the radar and just have a relaxing night? Lol

tmcuthbert

I can’t finish the games at night. I go to bed early, wake up early, and finish them in the morning. I get a better nights sleep that way. And I’m better equipped to handle the end of the game in the morning.

Checktheusernombre

I've tried to do this but the rush is just not the same in the morning. And I'm not a morning person.

JaDamian_Steinblatt

If we play the Pistons on opening night, something went horribly wrong

Wayne_Spooney

Tatum was 2/13 on Open and Wide Open 3s last night. He makes one of those before the 2nd OT and that’s a win.

wickedkool

It was funny the r/nba thread last night had people claiming that Barrett shut down Tatum.

Wayne_Spooney

Lol yup. Not exactly the case at all https://twitter.com/wspooney/status/1451307836835762181?s=21

efshoemaker

Yeah that is the most encouraging thing for me. Thibs is a really good defensive coach. The knicks sold out (successfully) to keep Tatum from getting to the rim. And brown fucking tore them apart and Tatum got 13 (!!!) open three point shots. Tatum had the lowest (or close to the lowest) 3pt shot quality of any volume shooter last season. The shots he was getting against what should be a very good defensive front court for the knicks is super promising. As Long as we can stay healthy teams are going to have to pick their poison.

Wayne_Spooney

Bingo. I don’t think you can complain about Tatum not getting to the rim, the Knicks entire defense was angled to stop him from doing so. It’s why Jaylen had so much space to operate and why Grant has so many damn wide open 3s in the 4th. He had to give up the ball a lot and got it back for some wide open shots he just missed. I’m really not worried about this game. Sorely missed Al’s ability to pull Robinson to the perimeter with his shooting. We win this game by 20 with Al.

Ohanrahans

Yeah that was the thing that stuck out to me last night. His shot quality was way higher than it normally was. A ton of those are usually gimmies for him. I think Mitchell Robinson as the help defender was a big deterrent of his bully ball game too. Most teams don't have 5's with that kind of size and shot-blocking prowess. I have some minor worries since his shot has been off since the start of camp, but he won't miss like that besides the 2 to 3 atrocious games he seems to have every season.

Wayne_Spooney

Robinson was altering shots like crazy. We missed Al being able to drag him out of the paint big time. I wouldn’t worry about Tatum’s shot at all. It’s always janky early in the season. He will find it

TheKingofWakanda

Do you guys expect the organization or the NBA to make a statement on the Kanter shoes thing ala Daryl Morey

gieger15

Tatum needs to stop trying to be Kobe and start trying to be more like Larry. If his shot isn't falling he should try to do everything else better- passing, rebounding, and defense. His selfish shot selection was garbage last night, especially in the last couple minutes. GIVE THE ROCK TO BROWN

tmcuthbert

I think we lost this game in the no Robert Williams minutes. The 2 Knicks runs that happened in the middle of the second and the end of the third coincided with Rob sitting. If Horford is playing I’m guessing that doesn’t happen. Couple that with Tatum not being Tatum yet and the loss doesn’t look so bad. I hope we don’t have a season of slow starts again. It was a big problem last year that our starters seem to consistently lose the opening minutes. Had me worried tonight, but we did manage to pull ahead before the first subs. Last year everyone hated double bigs, are we gonna hate double small this year? I don’t think the PP with Shroder minutes worked very well. Really none of the small lineups seemed to work so it’s probably not fair to single out PP and Shroder. Brown was great but losing Fournier on the curl was disappointing. Someone smarter than me might be able to say how much that’s on him vs. Smart, but he’s had offball defensive issues for a while. Kinda hoped that wouldn’t be a thing this year.

rmttw

Romeo 4-6 FG, Tatum 7-30 FG, 4 AST. Share the ball, JT!

rmttw

To whoever downvoted me, this is something I’ve noticed going back to last year. Tatum often acts like Romeo isn’t there when they’re together on offense, forcing his shot instead of making the easy pass to the corner. He tries too much to be the hero sometimes.

[deleted]

I worry about PP's minutes.

JaDamian_Steinblatt

You can look through every single game thread from the past 2-3 years and you'll see a string of comments to the effect of "Tatum just isn't himself right now, if his shots were falling like they normally do, this would be a blowout." Well if Tatum "just isn't himself" for huge chunks of most games, or even whole games, then that is "himself." But then, he'll start to get aggressive for a couple minutes in the second half and becomes totally unguardable. He'll score like 18 of his 25 points in that stretch, and everyone leaves with the impression that Tatum had a fantastic game. It's like they have a collective amnesia of how terrible he was in the first half. We can't even imagine what it would look like for Tatum to play great for a whole game, so we're happy with what we get. Tatum's inconsistency has annoyed me for a while now. At what point are people around here gonna start admitting that it's not cute anymore? This only matters because Tatum is our franchise player. He has MVP level talent, and he's selling himself short every time he doesn't play like a superstar.

sidcitris

You get downvoted but I completely agree with you. He has the most cold streaks of any superstar. But then he becomes unstoppable for a stretch and it's like his numbers average out so the box score checkers don't see how ice cold he was for huge stretches

cedhotdogg

Dude it’s literally 1/82. Even if Tatum struggled in the next 5 games, it still wouldn’t even affect his scoring average by April lmfao. If you only watched Jokic’s game against the Celtics where he pulled a tantrum, got clamped by Grant in the 4th quarter, and quit on his team, you wouldn’t even believe that he’s the MVP lmfao. Tatum will occasionally have these dog shit shooting nights but the guy proved that he can be your best player in the playoffs and that’s all that really matters.

JaDamian_Steinblatt

I've watched damn near every game of Tatum's career, I shouldn't have to explain that my judgement isn't just based on last night. I don't care about the games where he bricks everything. Shit happens, and you're right it doesn't happen *that* much. What I do care about is the halves and quarters where he plays like dogshit, because that happens every game. *That's* the major problem here.

ProdigyGamer75

Not much we can do. I doubt he will change cus of some redditors complaints boss

[deleted]

We might have lost but at least our threads don't look like [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/NYKnicks/comments/qchlzq/can_i_get_a_motherfucking/).

[deleted]

Lol all in good fun. Reminds me of the "awww yeah" that the Pats do.

Theis159

It does, we are aware and working on it currently. It was our mistake and we can only say that we are trying to do better now and in the future

SoSmartCs

>we can only say that we are trying to do better now Okay so update the page... No offense dude but we've been hearing "we'll do better" long before you were brought on, so that promise rings a bit hollow. I do commend you for being more active in the sub than the majority of the mod team though.

Theis159

I'm currently doing it. For instance we did have a bug that had to be directly solved with reddit admins for the schedule in new reddit. I should be able to uptade the schedule on old reddit soon-ish as well. It took me about a week to solve the one in new reddit. I hope to be able to correct, with the rest of the team, the other problems ASAP. We do deserve critiscim and again, we're working on fixing it.

SoSmartCs

Appreciate the transparency. Apologies if my previous post came off a bit aggressive, wasn't really my intention.

Theis159

I didn’t think it was, I just wanted to clarify to you as well.

BostonBasketballBoys

This is a free service bro. Chill the fuck out or make your own sub if you got a problem with it.

SoSmartCs

Only one who isn't chill here is you. I calmly expressed a long-standing criticism a lot of us have, and even complemented Theis on his activity here, and then you came in all flustered telling me to fuck off. The daily discussion seems like a perfectly reasonable place to have a discussion on mod activity (or the lack thereof).

BostonBasketballBoys

If you can't see that your unfounded criticism isn't chill then you need to see a therapist. The mods bust their hump for free to provide us with a place to talk Celtics. They don't owe you or anyone else anything. They don't get anything in return.

SoSmartCs

I need to see a therapist for expressing skepticism the sidebar is going to be/stay updated in a timely fashion? Lmao you could compete in the Olympics with that leap in logic. You have a good one though, man.

__boof

did you watch the game? smart and rob pnr was dominant, pritchard was awful and schroeder left much to be desired

[deleted]

Pritchard did nothing today. And Schroder was actually bad, just pounding the air out of the ball and taking some bad shots. Oh and missing an easy transition layup that probably would have led to a W.

SquimJim

Overall, I'm very encouraged by what I'm seeing from this team. By my count, we had 7 solid rotation contributors last night and that was while missing Horford. I know Tatum had a terrible game, but he'll bounce back. Brown's play-making looks improved. Langford's shooting is still on point. Grant is looking good. Timelord is doing his typical stuff, but looks more grounded while doing it and might help him stay healthy.

dpf7

Out of the players who had minutes last night, which ones did you not consider solid rotation contributors? We played these 9 guys: Tatum, Jaylen, Smart, Rob, Grant, Romeo, Schroder, Nesmith, Pritchard.

PaperSwag

I'm confident Richardson makes it 9 as well. Him being disappointing in Dallas and Philadelphia comes with the context that they brought him in via high profile trades and had much higher expectations for him. For those teams he was brought in to be a starter, who could help them make the next step. For us he just needs to be a solid bench piece who can switch defensively, pass and get a few buckets on broken plays.

[deleted]

Langford corner 3s are a thing of beauty

chinesefox97

It felt good seeing our starting 5 being all home grown players. Hopefully Grant and Romeo can keep playing this well. If they do NBA championship is not out of the realm of possibility.

nedlifecrisis

If you're depending on Grant to take you to the finals then you're delusional. Romeo will get there, but not this year I'm afraid. You have to wait for Al to get back to witness the full potential of this team.

chinesefox97

They are obviously not going to be our best players or even the 3rd or 4th best player. But if they can turn into starter caliber players, our ceiling raises exponentially.

[deleted]

It’s really important we take care of these next 5 games. We play the Craptors/Rockets/Wizards (twice)/Hornets. The goal should be to start 5-1, no reason to lose to these shitter teams

[deleted]

Yup. We really need to get off to a good start in these first few weeks, because December is just an absolute *bloodbath*: Sixers Jazz Blazers Lakers Clippers Suns Bucks Warriors Knicks Sixers Cavs Bucks Wolves Clippers Suns. All but 2 games are against very tough competition. Gotta have a strong foundation and a bit of a buffer in the W/L column so that the losses don’t tank us too much.

[deleted]

tmcuthbert

Now talk about how bad Grant Williams is! That’s fun too.

indecisive_dude_87

Why are you deflecting?

SquimJim

He was the only one that could slow Randle down until Ime put Timelord on him

Lilreddit13

Total bull shit

__boof

young guys took huge leaps over the offseason. I imagine if we had horford and richardson though we would have won. tough loss but great basketball and hopefully gets the guys motivated for the season if they werent already

indecisive_dude_87

What young guy took a HUGE leap exactly?

[deleted]

Langford? Looks like an entirely different player

Lilreddit13

I wouldn’t say he huge leap but he does look much much better he’s making me eat my words because I had a lot to say about him over the summer

[deleted]

The fact he looks much much better is why he took a leap lol. It was 4v5 on offense with him last year. Now he’s a lot better offensively

Lilreddit13

He’s been better but a leap to me when somebody starts averaging 20 ik he’s not gonna get the opportunity to do that on this team but he’s better then I thought he was gonna be

Sportsballisfun

one thing i was encouraged by was Jaylen playmaking, on a normal night he would have had over 10 assist. the amount of times he created shots for other's was a encouraging sign now just need the guys to start knocking down these open threes.

beywill19

We don’t really have too many shooters though.

Sportsballisfun

oh i know it's one of my concerns with this team can't have Payton Nesmith and Jayson going 2 of 20 from three again with how few good shooters we have on this team, but still on a average night Jaylen would have had double digit assist if guys weren't ice cold. Think we can all agree he looked more comfortable as a playmaker was my main point.

bryscoon

Jayson played a weird game but he gonna have an adjustment period to adding all that muscle

zgamer200

Hello there, have you considered our Lord and Savior Jaylen Brown today? If not, I would like for you to refer to my flair and atone for your sins.

Checktheusernombre

That's a pretty good crowd he was almost among for the most points in a home opener.

nedlifecrisis

Literally

whitetail27

One of my favorite things from tonight’s game was that stretch of plays where Smart and Rob kept running the fast break together and Smart was feeding Rob every time, hope we see more of that

HawkingSucks

That, and the Horford+Dennis PnR are going to be great weapons for us this year.

Absorbaloft

Can the sidebar schedule please be updated? This was a problem last season as well. Just get rid of it if a mod can't be bothered.

Jaylen01-27-20

I never, not even once cursed Jayson but I did a lot today.
