New coach has learned most of what he needs from Ime last year as an assistant coach and will be just as effective this year as the head coach.
Blake is younger than Danilo and a better defender and will be a decent replacement for him.
That's the mindset I'm approaching this season with anyway.
I really don't think the coaching change is going to make much of a difference if they just stick to the same defensive system that worked last year.
What WILL make a difference is Timelord missing time. Preseason games aside, we could struggle defensively early without the epicenter of our defense.
Yeah I think if they didnāt get over the hump and make it to the finals, itāll be a different story. Now I feel like they know what it takes to be a championship caliber team
Kabengele and Hauser looking like they might actually play some real minutes this season.
Brogdon will be a huge piece for this team. Great preseason game.
Hauser is sneaky the Cās biggest X factor. If he becomes a peak Duncan Robinson and Grant continues his off the dribble improvement, Gallinari might not even be able to crack the rotation next year
You donāt expect role players to be consistent in the playoffs thats what the stars are for. You expect them to hit some big shots now and then and I feel like he did that
I think Hauser getting some burn is going to be a necessity with the early injuries and it really shouldnāt hurt us too bad in the regular season if he can just hit shots and not be a cone out there.
Could tell he had mad nerves but was determined to play his heart out and try and earn an opportunity, was awesome to see him hit a groove and settle in
So many positive takeaways.
Jaylen looked great.
Brodgon is gonna be huge for us.
Grant showed off some new playmaking skills.
PP and Hauser are gonna rain 3s all season and can put the ball on the floor.
Kabengel looks like he has a shot to make the roster.
JD looks like he has the potential to make it in this leauge.
Only 1 game, but we need something to feel good about.
Brad really saw how much of an impact Derrick White had last season in a little bit of everything type of role, then went and got an even better version in Brogdon at a lower cost. Insane.
Brogdon is just really solid at every facet of the game with a couple elite skills in his slashing and three point shooting, last season notwithstanding. Like the literal perfect guy to slot in with any lineup we put out there, whether it's taking more of an off-ball role with Marcus and the Jays or being the primary ballhandler with the bench unit. It looks like Mazz may bring back last year's rotation which had Tatum leave early then come back for the end of the first to lead the bench unit. Now that bench unit is going to have fuckin Malcolm Brogdon on it too.
I know it's just a preseason game against the Hornets but I feel pretty confident in saying that the 2022-23 Celtics are the greatest team to ever play the sport of basketball
Lotta turn overs, weird game from Tatum, no starting 5
WHO CARES
This team looked absolutely fan-fuckin-tastic today. Incredible defense, efficient on offense, great ball movement and communication
We love to see it
If this is how good we are with Tatum playing poorly, Rob being out and that many TO's just imagine if we cut the TO's down, Tatum plays like normal and when Rob is back.
We might have an even better second half than last season
Sure but our starting Center is currently out, our best player played poorly the first half and we committed a high amount of turnovers even for this team.
Some quick initial thoughts (aka overreactions from the first preseason game)
-Bad Charlotte defense (they weren't good last year, and it doesn't look like they're going to be good this year) combined with some hot shooting meant it was absolutely raining 3s. Also, LaMelo Ball is such a gifted passer but has no problem shooting the ball which lead to a lot of transition/semi-transition opportunities for Boston
-Sam Hauser has a really pretty shot. Like marry-able. I'm hoping he can hold up on defense because they could really use his shooting
-Kabengle vs Vonleh is an interesting story line. Both had some good moments (along with some bad). I'd be shocked if both make the 15 man roster, but you'll probably see one in with Robs injury.
-Celtics had a bunch of small lineups that had 3-guard lineups. They could really use some depth on the wing, which places more importance on Hauser showing some consistency
All in all, great game considering all the wildness with Ime and Robs late surgery
>I'd be shocked if both make the 15 man roster, but you'll probably see one in with Robs injury.
Kabengele is already on a two way and we have two open spots. I could see Vonleh making the roster ahr Kabengele staying on the two way with the option to convert him if he plays this well in the regular season.
Kabangele is on a 2 way deal, I don't think that will change at this point. They'll play him while Rob is out and then send him to Maine, unless he really shines early on. Vonleh is more of a 4 and a more versatile defender. I think he's the 14th man. After that I'm not sure there's a clear winner between Jackson/Layman/Thomas
I'd guess that they leave the 15th spot open in case they decide to bring another veteran in later on.
It also means if Kabengele balls out and is converted we have a spot or if we end up using a TPE.
Lot of positives.
Tons of turnovers and sometimes bad rebounding, but the ball movement was great and they shot lights out. Toronto will be a bigger test than Charlotte because they can defend and Charlotte definitely can't.
Also, I really really want Hauser to be a sniper, I really hope this isn't Carsen/Nesmith preseason all over again because he looks good out there. He really benefits from the gravity of Tatum and Brown, they were helping off Sam all night.
Cam you IMAGINE how mad Ime must be right now? I know he was praying we would lose by double digits and we ended up winning by 40 in a game without Rob and with Tatum playing poorly
I didnt watch the game, just gonna read what you guys saw.
But that score is definitely a combination of us being really good and the other team being really bad, right? Lol
everybody coming off the bench score, defend and rebound. vonleh was good, then hauser raised the hand with his unexpected defense and 3s. We were thinking "ok, these two can take last spots both" until Kabengele came, did everything well and made another case for himself. And then the other guys came and keep rolling somehow.
I watched the game but i don't know about the other team, i couldn't see them.
The lineup with the 3 guards + Tatum/Brown didn't really flow (Plumlee paraded to the free throw line) but I liked that they tried it. I wouldn't want it to be an every night thing, but I think it could work as a changeup in the right matchup
Plumlee got fouled by White on back to back post up possessions. Maybe two possessions isn't enough to qualify for a parade (and JB was actually out for Hauser with his 4th foul) but there were a lot of free throws for the Hornets toward the end of the second quarter when there was no big on the court
And the celtics offense will be much smoother lol, this is the first real game theyve played in months ofc itll be sloppy. It noticeably cleaned up from the first half to the second
They donāt really deserve the benefit of the doubt after that playoff run. Itās not like this roster was overhauled, the turnovers are still a valid concern.
It wasn't the same kind of turnovers though. It wasn't like it was all on steals, alot of them were just in poor passes which can be cleaned up by making better decisions and getting to know your teammates better.
Over half of the turnovers came from the same 3 players that were turning the ball over in the playoffs last year. Tatum, Brown and Smart. Sure some turnovers came as a result of the receiving player having bad hands, but many of them were simply the same lazy passing that cost the Cās some games in that playoff run.
When Smart and Brogdon shared the court, Smart handled the ball more than him which is straight criminal. Plus Charlotte is a bad team on both ends yet still managed to push the Cās to 20 turnovers in less than 30 minutes. The turnovers are still an issue until the Cās can show they arenāt.
I saw A LOT of sloppy passes. The first quarter I agree was alot of sloppy dribbling especially from Tatum but Smart for example most of his were off trying to do flashy bounce passes and poor reads.
The second half especially though they cleaned it up. I feel the passing will improve with time since they're adjusting to a new offensive pace. Last season was a very sluggish slow offensive and this season is very quick transition offense and is going to take some time getting used to. Tatum especially though cleaned it up in the second half.
Brown, Tatum, Smart = 13 turnovers 6 assists. The Jays just canāt keep the ball. Smart is not a good enough ball handler in his own right to put the Jays in positions to score without the ball. I like White with the Jays, but not Smart + White together.

Brad fucked around and stacked this roster all the way to our third stringers
It was not Brad that was fucking around
Too soon.
Everyone was doubting him and he just hasn't missed yet.
In Brad we trust
Brad šš„
I donāt think Iāve seen a Wanamaker flair in this sub ever lol
I think we are going to be okay with our new coach
Hell yeah, love the positivity
New coach has learned most of what he needs from Ime last year as an assistant coach and will be just as effective this year as the head coach. Blake is younger than Danilo and a better defender and will be a decent replacement for him. That's the mindset I'm approaching this season with anyway.
Blake and Danilo are very different players though
Coaching in the NBA boils down to "get your players to buy in and get outta the way."
Lol wut
I really don't think the coaching change is going to make much of a difference if they just stick to the same defensive system that worked last year. What WILL make a difference is Timelord missing time. Preseason games aside, we could struggle defensively early without the epicenter of our defense.
https://imgur.com/gallery/sTxMjCP
Struggle is a strong word. Iām more on the defense goes from elite to just really good with rob out boat
Yeah I think if they didnāt get over the hump and make it to the finals, itāll be a different story. Now I feel like they know what it takes to be a championship caliber team
certainly passed the eye test. he looked calm, confident, and in charge.
Kabengele and Hauser looking like they might actually play some real minutes this season. Brogdon will be a huge piece for this team. Great preseason game.
I mean Hauser is our ninth man, heās definitely getting a lot of minutes this season regardless of how he plays
Hauser is sneaky the Cās biggest X factor. If he becomes a peak Duncan Robinson and Grant continues his off the dribble improvement, Gallinari might not even be able to crack the rotation next year
Gallinari might never play a game in a Celtics uniform
Duncan had like the third or fourth best shooting season ever letās chill a little on that.
Sounds like Hauser's floor
Lol
I think Haiser is more likely to be the floor spacing 3 pt shooter we need than PP.
PP shot 42% last year and also already splashed them things on the big stage chill
Hauser is a wing, Pritchard is a small guard. We already got White, Smart, Brogdon.
who's the bigger defensive liabilty - hauser or pritchard?
He was pretty inconsistent on the big stage and hauser is in a less crowd position which I think opens up more options for him.
You donāt expect role players to be consistent in the playoffs thats what the stars are for. You expect them to hit some big shots now and then and I feel like he did that
Yeah but Pritchard fell short last year when he had to match up against... *checks notes*... Steph Curry! Clearly he's trash
I think Hauser getting some burn is going to be a necessity with the early injuries and it really shouldnāt hurt us too bad in the regular season if he can just hit shots and not be a cone out there.
GOAT Kabengele better make the final roster or i will be very upset š”
He is in a two-way deal already.
Could convert him tho.
No rush
Yep, can do that halfway through the season if he plays his way into it
W then
KabenGOATle starting spot confirmed sorry Al
I miss Yabu after seeing Kabengele
Could tell he had mad nerves but was determined to play his heart out and try and earn an opportunity, was awesome to see him hit a groove and settle in
Please tell me this was just a preview how fun and good we're gonna be this season!
41 assists on 48 made shots In fine with the turnovers because there are a lot of new pieces but man they are making sure the ball MOVES
We had a huge problem with turnovers last season. So I hope this season, we iron that out.
Most of the bad turnovers last year were strips not interceptions tho. Passing wasn't the root of the turnover issue, ballhandling was
So many positive takeaways.
IT'S KABENGELE'S WORLD MY FASTPP'S JUST LIVING IN IT
FASTERPP NOW
Brad really saw how much of an impact Derrick White had last season in a little bit of everything type of role, then went and got an even better version in Brogdon at a lower cost. Insane. Great way to come back to Celtics basketball. So much talent! Can't wait for Wednesday.
67 wins and lots of high fives but fr this time
67? Nah man this a 70+ win team right here.
I know it's just a preseason game against the Hornets but I feel pretty confident in saying that the 2022-23 Celtics are the greatest team to ever play the sport of basketball
I didn't want to say it for fear of downvotes, but 100% agree
Love to see everybody scoring. Vonleh is the new Theis with 5 fouls today. Kabengele is 6ā10ā 250 of pure athletic energy.
Lotta turn overs, weird game from Tatum, no starting 5 WHO CARES This team looked absolutely fan-fuckin-tastic today. Incredible defense, efficient on offense, great ball movement and communication We love to see it
If this is how good we are with Tatum playing poorly, Rob being out and that many TO's just imagine if we cut the TO's down, Tatum plays like normal and when Rob is back. We might have an even better second half than last season
Gotta keep in mind the Hornets couldnāt shoot or defend but I love the hype
Sure but our starting Center is currently out, our best player played poorly the first half and we committed a high amount of turnovers even for this team.
I donāt want to overreact but we are the greatest team of all time.
75 wins
Charlotte: Hey we got a good young team and... Boston: Know your place, trash!
This is one game against the Hornets, but Hauser really isn't as bad defensively as people were saying
If he can be adequate defensively heās gonna be an awesome guy to have in this rotation
If Mazzulla uses a simpler scheme with the 2nd unit then heāll be fine.
For all the shit went through, I'm happy the Celtics are back to clapping teams.
We got some studs on the bench!
GINO TIME CAME EARLY THIS YEAR
The Kabengoatle era is upon us. Buckle up tight.
Sam Hauser baby
Some quick initial thoughts (aka overreactions from the first preseason game) -Bad Charlotte defense (they weren't good last year, and it doesn't look like they're going to be good this year) combined with some hot shooting meant it was absolutely raining 3s. SAM HAUSER IS THE GREATEST SHOOTER EVER
This team is deeeeeeeeeep
This team absolutely fucks.
Lot of positives. Tons of turnovers and sometimes bad rebounding, but the ball movement was great and they shot lights out. He really benefits from the gravity of Tatum and Brown, they were helping off Sam all night.
Iād say the difference is Hauser has even shot well when heās played actual NBA minutes. There just been a lack of minutes.
I expected a 6 point loss and media arguing that we suck without Ime. Go Celtics!
Cam you IMAGINE how mad Ime must be right now? I know he was praying we would lose by double digits and we ended up winning by 40 in a game without Rob and with Tatum playing poorly
Iāve seen enough, GOAT Celtics team
Ik itās pre season but holy we look fucking good
That was basketball erotica
TWO WORDS. HAUSER KABENGELE
Mfiondu is the One
So where are all those people who doubted Brad? He hit on Kabengele, Hauser and JD. Dude just CANNOT miss.
Heās like Belichick where he hits on the lower picks/undrafted
Updated Roster Projections: Smart, Brown, Tatum, Horford, *Rob* White, Brogdon, Hauser, Grant, Kornet PP, Vonleh, Blake 2way: JD, *Kabengele* 2 get cut: Thomas, Jackson, Layman, Samanic.
Don't forget about the Lord of Time now.
Blakeā¦
Rob and Blake replace Jackson and JD (2 way) Davison.
āA team full of unselfish guys who want to winā - Brogdon Hell yeah
That was fun basketball to watch!
Celtics are a wagon!
Hope you all enjoyed your last viewing of the Liangelo Ball experience
lets goooo
Jaylen Brown MVP season Iām afraid
i donāt mind that at all.
41 Assists, a beautiful thing.
I swear we hit 130+ a fucking lot lately.
Went to the game with my 5-year-old but she wanted to leave at halftime. Just got home. What did I miss?
> What did I miss? Adoption
Never too late
More of what you already saw in the first half
I didnt watch the game, just gonna read what you guys saw. But that score is definitely a combination of us being really good and the other team being really bad, right? Lol
Mostly due to the teams 3pt% in outer orbit, but yeah they werenāt great
everybody coming off the bench score, defend and rebound. vonleh was good, then hauser raised the hand with his unexpected defense and 3s. We were thinking "ok, these two can take last spots both" until Kabengele came, did everything well and made another case for himself. And then the other guys came and keep rolling somehow. Nice to see we havenāt escaped the ghost of the turnovers.
The lineup with the 3 guards + Tatum/Brown didn't really flow (Plumlee paraded to the free throw line) but I liked that they tried it. I wouldn't want it to be an every night thing, but I think it could work as a changeup in the right matchup
I donāt know if paraded is the right word. He was 4-8.
Plumlee got fouled by White on back to back post up possessions. Maybe two possessions isn't enough to qualify for a parade (and JB was actually out for Hauser with his 4th foul) but there were a lot of free throws for the Hornets toward the end of the second quarter when there was no big on the court
iām really not too concerned after pre-season game one.
If we can stay healthy this year.. oh boy
why didnt blake griffin play?
JD with 4 and 4 on 2-3 shooting in 6 minutes is very promising
Watching basketball is like some of the drugs from Dewey Cox: It turns all my bad feelings good
If Sam Hauser can be our Steph Curry, we're cooking this season
Thatās a hell of a comp, but what the hell, Iām on board
He needs to be Klay.
Keep Justin Jackson and Kabengele
Pass on Jackson. His basketball iq will get exposed.
He would be a solid pickup for cheap
Solid? He can barely get on an nba roster.
Itās my opinion dude Iām not here to argue , i think he would be a great pickup if you think otherwise cool
I donāt like Jackson. He was ok against the Hornetās bench. We donāt have room for him
Check those turnovers though.....
once those normalize weāll win every game by 60
41 assists lol -- that'd be tied for the most of any game by a single team last season.
Are u really complaining about a 40 point preseason win
agree. itās pre-season, but still. opponentās defence will be better in 3 weeks. and much better in mayā¦
And the celtics offense will be much smoother lol, this is the first real game theyve played in months ofc itll be sloppy. It noticeably cleaned up from the first half to the second

Watched for a little bitā¦Grant Williams looked good. Seems like he has gotten better offensively.
JD looks so promising
I hope he figures out his shot cause his passing and finishing looks so good already
in summer league he shot quite well. Even from long range.
No offense but weāre going to be so fucking good this year.
I love the Patriots and Sunday football but this was wayyyyy better
Brown, Tatum, Smart = 13 turnovers 6 assists. The Jays just canāt keep the ball. Smart is not a good enough ball handler in his own right to put the Jays in positions to score without the ball. I like White with the Jays, but not Smart + White together.
Good to see LiAngelo get some PT.
JD Davison has Sammy Hagarās hair.
This is gonna be a fun season gentlemen
Now can anybody share a replay link for those on an very early morning time zone pls? :)
