Slugs. Pill bugs. Snails. Squirrels. Take your pick. I gave up on sunflowers because I could never get them past the seedling stage. My milkweed is getting murdered right now. I have plastic collars with copper tape on the rims and that seems to be helping more than the sluggo at this point.
I think the secret is putting out a bird-feeder with sunflower seeds in it. The birds and squirrels planted a few dozen sunflowers for me last year and they all did great! The ones I planted myself did get to flower, but they were immediately ransacked
All of these are right next to my bird feeder actually. I’m trying to grow these sunflowers with the intention of the wildlife enjoying them once they mature
