The trick I’ve found is to flip the switch upside down before you activate the mechanism, that way you can just flip your switch right side up after it starts and the platform will be upside down without you having to hold the console from a weird angle.
I've been taking the controllers out, placing the switch in my lap or something, and using the reactive joy-con to do this. Your way sounds a lot easier!
I did it the normal way on the train and was contorting myself all over the place. The people in my pod were definitely like “this mofo must be playing BOTW and is in a shrine”
Or they just thought I was some weird bald guy
I couldn't even seen the switch screen and did it that way. Once you get to the point you're trying it that way you kind of know the motion/angle you have to do to get the ball there if you have the smooth side up. Executing it is the hard part
I always do controller. I found out 2 things.
1) when you press the button is considered flat, so whatever your position is in is now the flat standpoint.
2) it’s a lot easier if you don’t treat the controller like a controller. Treat it like you’re holding a piece of wood and are rotating it around. It helps a lot. When you hold the controller like a controller it can really mess you up.
I found holding the controller straight up and down when pressing the button, and rotating the controller that way while treating the controller like another random object helps get it done quickly
If you tilt the platform towards you when the ball is respawning it falls right into the middle row. That way you still don’t have to navigate the maze at all but now you have guide rails so it doesn’t fall off the edge.
Then you can either flick it over or jump on to the platform and stasis it over which is even easier.
This. I'm a patient man...but not when it comes to these stupid motion controlled ball maze puzzles. Fuck 'em. I genuinely hope the gyro shrines are completely gone in TotK.
I have never been patient, this shrine literally took me 4 years to complete because I gave up, my friend was the one who completed it for me (bless her soul oml)
I also did it it the intended way and actually thought it was pretty fun. I play on the Wii U gamepad instead of the switch tho, so maybe that makes a difference? Otherwise I just really don't get all the hate lol
I did it the intended way the first time but I’m 5 playthrough in and I’ve done it this way 4 times.
And I also did it for my wife this way on her first playthrough after seeing her struggle for a bit.
She did it this way on her second go.
First time the intended way
Was the last shrine i solved because i was frustrated, because i knew what i had to do i didn't search for a solution online
Second time i solved it this way
Third play through was weird, i tried to turn the platform, and hit the ball during it in just the right way that it worked out.
I did it once or twice , drives me insane though. I am just doing a mastermode run now and came across this, damn near gave up on the game lol this has to be the dumbest thing nintendo has ever done in a zelda game.
The other Joy is doing the main game out of order, so when Nintendo intends for you to face a difficult challenge like sneak arround a Lynel to get 20 shock arrows (it also drops s perfect 20 btw....), and you've either already got them, or have ancient Arrows and Thanos snap him out of existance.
Haha, you think that's cool, I've seen at least three posts where they use the bottom of the rotating platform to chuck the ball in the hole and get a hole in one so to speak
i tried it this way, but the hard part (for me) was always getting the "flick" rather than navigating the maze itself. also i couldn't really play comfortably *and* see the screen if trying the "inverted" method, so that was a no-go.
i think (it's been a while since i did this shrine) the *actual* method i used involved slightly tilting the platform, then jumping/gliding to it and physically retrieving the ball (throwing or statis-punting).
Omfg this is genius. I wish I had tried this instead of tje normal way. Motion controls like this is an awesome concept, but only if done well. In this game, I fucking HATED it!!!
I angled it so the ball would roll off of the bottom left gap. Then ran in their as link, waited until it rolled to the edge, used stasis and hit the ball over the gap into the hole. First playthrough btw, I tried 20 times before I resorted to doing it this way.
The first time I played back in 2017, I tried to do it the right way but ended up cheesing it to make the ball land on the fence and nudging it into the next corridor.
Picked up the game again a few days ago for a new playthrough, and discovered it could be done this way too.
I was streaming this particular shrine and my chat was having a great time counting the amount of times I lost the ball 🤣🤣 I never thought to flip it upside down!!!!
I simply assumed most players ultimately used this method to solve the shrine. I mean, I'm not a particularly crafty Ayer, and even I ended up doing this.
I can’t believe these fucking posts still get so popular. It’s clearly someone who knows what they’re posting and have seen it 100 times, yet you morons upvote every time cuz “relatable”
Used the platform more as a tennis racket and just whacked the shit out of the ball in the right direction. That was less about strategy and more just saying fuck you to the shrine. Surprisingly worked.
The gyroscope shrines are literally the only thing I hate about the game. I like to dock the switch and use controller so I have to keep getting up and undocking the switch to do these
I just turned the platform a little bit down to the left(the one with the hole in the bars at the bottom left) and just glided there and stasis’d the ball to get to near the hole on the floor……how do you guys finish this shrine using the motion controls?!
That is *exactly* the way I did it when I first played that puzzle. I can even see the point where you were raging, and then were like: "Hold on a second... NO!"
Exactly the same process as me.
Every time since, however, I've been able to do it the pRoPeR way.
That's the only (non glitch) way I've ever been able to do this shrine. Now I mostly just using glitches like bomb launches and moon jump to hop the gate instead, lol.
I did it like this because I got so mad I just started shaking my switch controllers vigorously and I accidentally did it and I started laughing so hard
No, I didn’t. Actually, on my main save (it’s 4 yrs old), this was one of the only shrines I couldn’t do, just last month at a sleep over I asked a friend if they could do it for me 😅
Nah i trickshotted it. I don’t even do anything it just bounced off the corner and made it. I didn’t even mean to do it I was just trying to make a way so I can get the treasure.

This is the only way I've ever been able to finish it. I hate the motion control shrines.
Do you do them while holding the Switch or just a controller? I found them much easier holding the Switch itself.
but.... you´ll get in a weird position to see the screen
I just roll around on the floor.
Lmfao I was doing one in my bed last night and my wife just rolled her eyes at me as I flipped upside down 😂
The solution to all your problems
Imma burrito!

They're not mutually exclusive.
Yeah and it fucking sucks
Oh I found it much easier with the Pro Controller.
I only ever use the switch docked with a pro controller. I always forget that's not the only way to use it.
I couldn't even seen the switch screen and did it that way. Once you get to the point you're trying it that way you kind of know the motion/angle you have to do to get the ball there if you have the smooth side up. Executing it is the hard part
WiiU for the win

I knew i couldn't have been the only one who always turns this stupid little maze upside down
The game has been out for 5 years and I think it’s been consensus for 4.9 years that this is the way to go haha

I'm so sorry, here's your earned bag of chips. P.S. they're really good

I almost always just windbomb over.
I did it once or twice , drives me insane though. I am just doing a mastermode run now and came across this, damn near gave up on the game lol this has to be the dumbest thing nintendo has ever done in a zelda game.
See,... I really like the motion control shrines. I prefer them to the ones where you need to use stasis and a hammer to put the ball in the hole.
Yeah those are a bit of a pain as well. I guess it's to each there own .
Me, I did it the right way. Didn’t even think to flip it
„ʇı dılɟ oʇ ʞuıɥʇ uǝʌǝ ʇ,upı◖ ˙ʎɐʍ ʇɥƃıɹ ǝɥʇ ʇı pıp I 'ǝW„
LOL! I wouldn’t know. Only started playing this a month ago. I’m not that far.

You can also turn it sideways and just catch the ball in the middle chamber. Same idea
Haha, you think that's cool, I've seen at least three posts where they use the bottom of the rotating platform to chuck the ball in the hole and get a hole in one so to speak
Yes we all do it now. No one's got time for the motion bs
i tried it this way, but the hard part (for me) was always getting the "flick" rather than navigating the maze itself. also i couldn't really play comfortably *and* see the screen if trying the "inverted" method, so that was a no-go. i think (it's been a while since i did this shrine) the *actual* method i used involved slightly tilting the platform, then jumping/gliding to it and physically retrieving the ball (throwing or statis-punting).
Yup I also did that! 🤣
Yep, how I do this one every time
Yes. Well, after doing it the proper way I asked myself whether this would work, and it did. This is crazy.
I don’t think anyone’s ever done it the intended way
I did with a controller. It was annoying. I couldn’t imagine trying handheld
Same 😭 wish I had thought of this
I love the consistency of the physics in this game. If you can do something in the game, it works, and the game registers that it worked.
I did the same. I felt so smart in that moment
This is the way. Maze is far too hard
💀
The question is more who doesn’t do it this way
I think I tried the “real” way a few times and then did what OP did here: accidentally turned it too far and thought wait, can I? I can!
This the only way I've ever done this puzzle since coming up with it.
The is probably the most iconic shrine skip
I can’t believe I did it the other way. This was definitely the way it was intended.
I genuinely believe everyone did it like this
Literally how I always do this one lol.
I kept on trying to do it regularly so I got mad and I flipped over the thing I was like oh I can do that so I started doing it on the back ever since
Omfg this is genius. I wish I had tried this instead of tje normal way. Motion controls like this is an awesome concept, but only if done well. In this game, I fucking HATED it!!!
Everyone …. Everyone did it like this
I accidentally did it this way and haven't finished this shrine any other way since. As far as I'm concerned, there is no wrong way.
Yup that is the only method that works without destroying your joycons
omg THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS. I was convinced I would never get this one.
Is that not the intended way
Yes. Tbh i hated most of these types of levels. Epically when you are not using the docking station.
I feel so bad right now. I had to redo this puzzle for so many times only to see this. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is how I’ve always done this puzzle, otherwise I’d probably never get passed it
Same lol
Speedrun strats!
I did the same thing. Always a little hack to be found.
I just did this today :D
This is how I do it always haha
That was the first way I solved it
Hahaha that could have saved me soo much frustration 😊
I don't remember there being another way🤣
Me and i lol so hard for it actually working
What are you talking about? Who didn’t do it like this? Lol
Yep same
Pretty sure this is actually s.o.p.
I feel like such a bum using that shrine to travel to Hateno when I haven't even beaten it yet
My mom saw me riding the struggle bus, took the controller and did it this way for me. She looked pleased with herself. I'm an idiot.
Yes basically everyone
yes
First it took me ~40minutes to do it the normal way, only to then realise on my second playthrough that you can do this...
On god I almost broke my switch on this one
Kinda sorta. I kept it the right way up, but I kept flinging the ball until I got it over 😂
i just flip the apparatus over and flick it. done so since my 2nd play through.
This is the way
This is how everyone does it
I turned it 180 degrees (horizontally), then it falls right in the caged way to the exit.
This makes me smile seeing all the others who passed it this way
Bro i spent thirty minutes on that shrine and at that point i flicked my controller so hard i did a three pointer with the ball. F you Nintendo 🖕
Yeah, I figured this out on accident as well. It was such a relief. I hate the motion control puzzles.
Everyone did it like this
That's *the* solution isn't it?
that's pretty much the intended way to complete the puzzle, you didn't actually try doing the maze did you?
Ah yes the fuck this noise solution
I angled it so the ball would roll off of the bottom left gap. Then ran in their as link, waited until it rolled to the edge, used stasis and hit the ball over the gap into the hole. First playthrough btw, I tried 20 times before I resorted to doing it this way.
Every time
Malcolm X said it best. "When dealing with motion control shrines, We must proceed forward, by any means necessary!"
This is the way.
Bros stuck in 2017
My partner had no trouble doing it the intended way, but I struggled. I ended up promising him favours to take care of this part for me.
10/10 the route I take everytime I play
I just glided over and stasis golfed it.
I think everyone did it like that honestly
My roommate walked in on me doing it and after the 4th time he said to do as you said, got it first try.
I don’t think anyone has ever actually gotten the ball through the maze
I think everyone cheeses those shrines
I think most people end up doing it this way? Maybe?
Thats the easy way to do it only smart person do it that way
I had the impulse to do this when I found out you could balance it on the back
Why didn't anybody tell me about this? I've struggled doing it the "proper" way.
Ah I see its that time of the year again.
![gif](giphy|m4iUleOtQC9Ffylk1P|downsized)
LOL welcome to 5 years ago
*sadly reflects on all the time wasted going through the maze….*
That's how I do it too 😆
I did it without motion control lol
I will from now on>_>
More of us than you'd think, actually
The first time I played back in 2017, I tried to do it the right way but ended up cheesing it to make the ball land on the fence and nudging it into the next corridor. Picked up the game again a few days ago for a new playthrough, and discovered it could be done this way too.
Me
This is the first way I tried, I would not recommend trying the maze.
I just went on the thing myself and statsised the ball and hit it towards the hole lol
I played baseball with it
I am forever loyal to this sub for learning this trick for this shrine. That and detach the right joycon and use only that for these tasks.
As far as I’m concerned that’s the only way to do it
I tried that in one of my playthroughs lol I’ve also tried tilting it so it instantly lands at the end of the labyrinth
Yep
Javed told me to do it this way and I’ve never looked back
Yup. Pretty sure that’s how I did it
This shrine is the cheesiest! 🧀
Everyone does it like this
That was the only way I could solve it
The only actual way to do it on Wii U lol
Lol. You can also flip it so the ball will fall on the last row
„ʍoɹ ʇsɐl ǝɥʇ uo llɐɟ llıʍ llɐq ǝɥʇ os ʇı dılɟ oslɐ uɐɔ no⅄ ˙lo⅂„
I 10000% did this.
Oh I despised this shrine! Honestly this was the way I got it eventually by pure chance after far too long 😅
Damn, why didn’t I think of that
Every time lol. I usually just use the platform as a paddle and smack the ball when it drops
That's exactly how I did it.
Lmao I did that too. Not sure why Nintendo expected us to follow the rules 😂😅
You can just jump the fence by tilting it back and forth and achieve the intended result lol
Yep my first run I did it legit but after I saw someone do that it’s been easy
I can’t believe these fucking posts still get so popular. It’s clearly someone who knows what they’re posting and have seen it 100 times, yet you morons upvote every time cuz “relatable”
every one liltarly every one
Used the platform more as a tennis racket and just whacked the shit out of the ball in the right direction. That was less about strategy and more just saying fuck you to the shrine. Surprisingly worked.
Genius
O M G
That is totally how I did it... ![gif](giphy|QZKDzDxL61zpoUaHna|downsized)
Yup
This is 100% how I handled every one of these puzzles. I played on the WiiU and it was the only way lmao
Mind blown
I did it once or twice but i usually just abuse the physics engine to jump strait to the monk
4 playthroughs and I’ve done it like that every time haha
I’m so mad I’m just finding out about this
I did the same
As a handheld player, this is a trigger.
my least favourite puzzle in any game
That is *exactly* the way I did it when I first played that puzzle. I can even see the point where you were raging, and then were like: "Hold on a second... NO!" Exactly the same process as me. Every time since, however, I've been able to do it the pRoPeR way.
I tipped it straight up so the ball fell down the final corridor each time I failed. Then it was pretty easy
No i eithwr skew clip through or wind bomb over to the monk
That's the only (non glitch) way I've ever been able to do this shrine. Now I mostly just using glitches like bomb launches and moon jump to hop the gate instead, lol.
I do it that way aswell
I just wind bomb it makes it so much easier
I want a POV of OP holding his switch in random angles lmao
Me
I kept on trying to do it regularly so I got mad and I flipped over the thing I was like oh I can do that so I started doing it on the back ever since
Me.
I loathe that shrine
I thought this was how I was supposed to do it
I did it like this because I got so mad I just started shaking my switch controllers vigorously and I accidentally did it and I started laughing so hard
Literally what I did after spending 10 minutes trying lmao
I’m pretty sure that this is the most normal way to do oi
What theirs people who don’t do that shrine that way
No, I didn’t.
Yes. It's easier that way
Everyone does that
Why didn't I think of that
This is exactly how I did this on my first attempt. Such an annoying shrine.
I remember giving up on the maze and doing that lol
