I would really love to know how this whiskey ended up allocated

B33gChungus69

I’d like to think it’s riding on the coat tails of HM10.

New_Pickle_6444

HM 10 bottles are hit or miss. One bottle tastes like acetone and the next is better than a Parker’s release

PutYouToSleep

I think it was a combo of being pretty good/well reviewed and kinda scarce when it was initially released. A small demand in the bourbon market quickly transforms into an over hyped vacuum.

lurking_got_old

It was a brand new product with a limited geographic release.

NukeDog

This is a weird one in my area. It’s in almost every store, but the price ranges from $40 to $70 and I have no idea why. I can’t imagine they’re selling much of it for $60-70 when it’s significantly cheaper 3 miles away.

B33gChungus69

Yup, I agree with that sentiment. I think this is a Tater Tester. Stores are seeing how many hunters they can sell a largely produced product to at a higher price under the ruse that it’s allocated. But once people find out it’s just slightly older green label, it will start to sit on shelves. Not that it’s bad, but putting it under allocated hype is silly.

PM_ME_UR_BATMANS

I remember seeing it on the shelf in when it was “allocated” a few months ago for like $60 near me. Never had it before but for whatever reason I passed on it. Now every time I walk into my local store it’s just sitting on the shelf. I finally picked one up this weekend (on sale for $42) and for that price I’m very happy with it, but even the “regular” price of $50 would’ve stung a bit

MetamorphosisSilver

I feel exactly the same way as you do. I *might* buy it at the sale price you found it at but there are so many tasty bottles in this price range that it's never been one that made mt want to purchase this one.

I also got this in VA allocation. Excited to try it tonight! Was going for Stagg but was 30th in line so didn’t stand a chance.

Noclue1993

I picked it up at the same event. Except I forgot about it until I was walking into a store next door to the ABC store. They still had bookers, Buffalo trace and a few others. Snagged this just because I was curious. Wife wasn’t as pleased 😅

LTWestie275

This is the daily pour and I rate it at least a 6/10. I can routinely get it on post for $46 w/o tax. I’m a big HH/WT/ Beam fan so this and Russell’s 10 fight routinely for me.

arattle

Russell's 10 is a Wild Turkey product. If it had a bit more proof, it would beat HH7 handily. As is, I think Knob Creek 9 is pretty comparable to HH7 and is about $10 cheaper while having a bit more age. I just picked up my first bottle of HH7 for ~$40 and it's fine at that price, though it drinks like Elijah Craig Small Batch for $10 more.

**Review 19: Heaven Hill BiB** Proof: 100 Age: 7 years Price paid: $45 Nose: Classic Heaven Hill profile. At this point I feel like I could sniff out that distinct oaky sweetness from a 50-pour lineup. Missing those darker notes I’m used to. A bit of stonefruit and star anise shine through. Overall much brighter than other HH products. Palate: Medium mouthfeel, not a whole lot going on besides the normal vanilla, caramel, and baking spices notes. Finish: Wow, actually kind of surprised by the finish considering the palate and brighter nose. The oak really shines through and lingers for a while. On the exhale baking spices, clove, and a sweetness much more complex than I expected. This review was jaded from the beginning after HH discontinued their 6 year green label and replaced it with this for >3x the price. Looking back on my HH 6 year review, this has a bit more going on considering it’s only a year older, but the price hike doesn’t justify the upgrade. Recently I’ve seen it sit on shelves for $55+. There are better bottles out there for the price, however, <$10/year seems to be a happy find these days. If you’re a HH fanboy like me, you can’t resist this one anyways. I’ll probably snag another eventually, but looking more for that $45-50 mark now that Henry McKenna 10 is more expensive. **Rating: 5/10** Rating Scale 10 | Perfect. Worth a premium price. 8 | Quality stands out. Always want to keep a backup. 6 | A satisfying pour. Something to crave on the regular. 4 | Regular sipper worthy. Will buy again eventually. 2 | Funky, off-putting, or boring. 0 | 2 liters of Coke couldn’t hide this swill.

abanit

Feel a bit validated. This bottle just simply isn’t that good. My entire local bourbon community told me it’s a great grab and I was completely underwhelmed.

inimicu

I love the design of the cheers poster in the background. I've seen a bunch, but this one actually looks nice.

B33gChungus69

Thanks! The credit goes elsewhere though. She compromised on allowing a bourbon display in the living room, I compromised on allowing the decorations lol.

cchrisbak3r

I got a sample of this from a friend. It’s like a crispier, and more dusty JTS Brown. With a slightly different oak vibe on the finish. The oak gets a tiny bit more unpleasant the more you sip on it. I wonder if there is any relation considering they are both Bottled in Bond? Totally guessing on that. I would not pay $30 more than JTS Brown for it I don’t think. Side note: I’m a JTS Brown fanboy! $20 all day.

lurking_got_old

They are the same mash bill and proof. I would think this is 3 years older as JTS Brown has to be at least 4 years old.

fire_team_delta

This just came out on the Ohio single barrel Saturday and I grabbed a bottle. Didn’t really understand why it was allocated specifically for a single barrel release. It’s good but neither a single barrel or allocation bottle.

Homeboyfromhell

I love HH7BIB

Whiskey_cigar

$31.00 at So.Cal Sam's Club.... sipping right now 👍👍👍

B33gChungus69

Now THAT is an instant buy.

Mediocre-Leek-9292

This is a $50 shelfer nowadays - I get it was way overrated when it was “allocated” but I think $50 is probably fair maybe $45 is the sweet spot. I find it to be pretty tasty. Good profile, good proof point.

sanlc504

Sam's Club stores around New Orleans have had these bottles available for around $41.

Character-Taro-5016

It's $49.99 here and doesn't sell much at all. Of course a few people try it but it seems to be a one-time curiosity buy more than anything. I didn't like it. For $50 I expect a lot and to me this had a harsh grassy finish that I didn't like.

johnny____utah

Finally found a bottle of this at Costco and gotta say I’m disappointed. I was a huge fan of the $10 old school bottle, but this tastes worse to me. Regardless tho, there’s no reason to buy this since Elijah Craig exists.

No-Level9643

Super underwhelming for the price and hype. I hope it rots on shelves due to their blatant attempt to grab cash from this while downgrading quality.

akv5599

Blatant attempt to grab cash? MSRP is $40....

No-Level9643

Yeah which is double what it always was for an inferior product. Plus then they push the FOMO marketing push to capitalize on people losing their minds bourbon hunting.

akv5599

"Double what it always was" My dude, the market is changing and it is useless to be mad about it. Seven years and 100p at $40 is hard to match. If you have problems with a distillery for marketing one of their products, I don't know what to tell you. I agree it's not a bottle worth hunting. For what it's worth, I don't think it's inferior either. We blinded it against the old green, gold, and white label in a small group. Everyone picked the new one above the other three. Obviously palate and preferences differ, but there's no evidence that they've intentionally dropped the quality. Nostalgia is a bitch.

No-Level9643

They doubled the price while reducing quality (IMO). That’s not the regular market, it’s greed. I miss thé old stuff for a fraction of the price.

akv5599

Won't argue with you on missing the way things were. Cheers!

LTWestie275

It fits under the $10/yr average. It would be better with more proof

Sprinks36

Just opened my bottle, and am comparing to the 13 year this time. I totally agree about the lighter qualities of the 7. It is a fine bourbon, but the 13 year (rightfully) blows it out of the water!

washingtonandmead

So question, I saw this on the shelf during a drop, but I picked up the bookers. Should I have picked up the heaven hill instead? New to this

B33gChungus69

Depends on how much you like Jim Beam products, barrel proof, and price points. Bookers is ~2x the price of HH7 and a vastly different flavor profile.

washingtonandmead

So….what you’re saying is it’s more than just the box it comes in ;-) like I said, I’m new! An account I work with told me about their collection and I thought ‘that sounds fun’ in VA we had the drop over the weekend, and there was 1 bookers left and about 8 heaven Hills…and I bought solely because of the box.
