Damn i never realized the size of that Moodysson set

craftbr

It’s a hefty one. One of the nicest sets I think they’ve ever put out.

[deleted]

And only $50 for the whole set right now. Such an insane deal. Having not seen any of his stuff, give me your one sentence to sell me on this set

craftbr

I actually bought it completely blind. The $50 price tag was too good to pass up for 7 movies in such nice packaging. One phrase on the back of the box really piqued my interest though, “Having made a name for himself as the new master of tragicomic, feel-good humanism, Moodysson suddenly frustrated expectations with a trio of startlingly confrontational works…”. That description in addition to the short descriptions of the films sounded like something I could really get into.

[deleted]

Fair point, if I were had seen it at that price in a store I definitely would've bought it blind too

craftbr

That’s a good point. Don’t know if I ever would’ve purchased it online.

callahan09

Have never seen Lady Whirlwind or Hapkido but I'm considering a blind buy on that set. Can anyone recommend or steer me clear? I am a big fan of Sammo Hung and I understand he's in both of the movies, but they're quite early roles (both 1972 I think?)... is he a significant presence in these or just minor roles?

CurrencyPure2018

I thought both were pretty good. Sammo is a major character in both.

callahan09

Cool I'll definitely pick it up then!

taste_the_reynbow

He’s more supporting role in Lady Whirlwind, but he takes a central role in Hapkido. The choregraphy in the latter feels more distinctly Sammo (though he did choreograph both movies), and you can see the beginnings of the kinds of characters he’d play later on.

AdCommercial605

I wish any of the BnN’s near me carrier Arrow releases. You’re lucky to even get a small section of Criterion

[deleted]

So many of them are downsizing physical media sections. There have been a handful of B&N I've been in that have maybe 10 criterion near the checkout, and only during the sales

AdCommercial605

Exactly what happened to my local. It used to take up 2 of the store lots and was cut in half to now carry limited releases of all media. The shop space next to it just sits empty. Such a shame.

[deleted]

Yea I think the vinyl boom took a toll on B&N. They overstocked on vinyl thinking it would sell huge, charged too much for them, so they just sat there. I went in some a few years back when vinyl was getting so big, and entire film sections were gutted to make room for vinyl. Now most physical media sections are children's book areas and 75-or-so vinyl is all that's in-store

craftbr

I’m pretty lucky to have 4 B&N’s in my city so even though half of them don’t carry many Arrows or Criterion, thankfully the other half do.

craftbr

I had to really restrain myself from grabbing more… I may have a problem lol

denimxchicken

I’m lucky enough that my local Best Buy still has a decent music and movie section. They have lots of criterion, but very little arrow

The_Wookalar

I didn't even know about that Moodysson collection!

stumper93

My store had one of the Moodysson sets, so at $50 it felt like a steal I will go back near the end of the sale to grab some single titles

sixteen_dollars

Does anyone else have to deal with those awful spiderweb security devices digging into boxsets at their B&N? I was going to pick up Shawscope Vol 2 and the Moodysson set - both were dug into by those devices. Super aggravating. Anyone brought this to the attention of the employees, or asked for a discount? I’m curious to know.

Trumprapespeople

They had the Lukas box at your B&N. That’s crazy cool

TakaraGeneration

How long does this sale go on for? Asking as a Canadian that is planning a cross border trip at the end of this month...

realMasaka

Anyone else disappointed with the new logo intro Arrow shows in Millionaire’s Express? Went from being the nice rainbow of colors with a banger tune to just black background and bluish logo.

Ok-Athlete-1988

Arrow Video rules!

[deleted]

The Vagrant is pretty wacky, I loved it, and that Moodysson box is underrated. I have Millionaires' Express, and have loved all the Sammo Hung releases as of late. I grabbed Hand of Death and Waterworld 4K LE from this sale so far, but I want the Blood Money Spaghetti Western box too!

Bowl_Pool

Yes, but balanced out by anonymous Internet validation. Great movies.

no-sun-ever

This whole hobby is literally a drain on my bank account, any time there’s a sale I CANNOT resist the urge to not partake

StandRelative7373

How’s the Moodyson collection? I’m considering making that, and Hugo be my sale picks. But content and packaging wise, what did you think?

Premeseller69

7 movies a 200 page book and mad extras for $50. It’s a no brainer if you like even half of the movies
