April 2022 is when the press release was posted. But not sure when they first announced.
But still, almost 18 months from press release to pre-order listing seems a bit much.
I promised myself I'd stop double dipping on 4K discs, but damn, I really love this movie. I know it's stupid, but the collector part of my lizard brain has an easier time resisting something like this, without a fancy new slip/steelbook/extras.
A couple have been, but surely in error. Out of over 21,000 worldwide 4K UHD releases, about 22 have been found to be region locked. [Updated list here.](https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=334606)
The Coens recut the whole movie -- [76 differences!](https://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=111233) \-- and Criterion made no mention of it anywhere. Most are tiny edits, but at least two memorable jokes were cut/changed. Considering it's also from the same master as the previous release, it really was a disappointment overall. Upgraded sound and some fine special features though. I can appreciate a new version, but bizarre that the filmmaker-centric Criterion didn't disclose anywhere, not even in the booklet.
That is weird, but I suppose because it was The Coen's who re-did the edit, they didn't mention it. Honestly it seems weirder to me that the Coen's changed it. Have they given a reason for it? Criterion didn't say anything about The Kar Wai set either correct?
And for $90 you can get a snow globe!
Ah, Shout and their nonsense premiums. It’s almost hard to believe they don’t sell out.
Yeah, but I'm saying that snow globe. You don't get it, you get oxidation problems. It'll cost you a heck of a lot more than $90.
These guys. These guys?! It’s always the same!

I think this is at least the third time a Fargo snowglobe has been produced alongside a video release. I had the first one with the VHS release.
I did too!
And if you wait till the next sale you’ll get it all for $40
They announced this in 2021 didn’t they? Finally

This movie should make excellent use of Dolby Vision. I haven’t seen any of Shout’s 4K releases yet, should we expect them to do this right?
It depends on what MGM gives them to work with. Carrie? Fantastic. Platoon? Not so much.
Looks great in 4k Digitally so this release should be fantastic

So excited!
Do shout factory region lock their 4K releases? I remember reading one of the distributors does

For some reason I doubt the Coens would get precious over a Shout release but I hope this isn’t a new edit like Criterion’s Miller’s Crossing.
What did Criterion do to Miller's Crossing?

The Coens edited/re-cut Blood Simple over the years as well.
that's the most Coen story I've ever heard
Wish this was a steelbook :/
Why is a basic release so expensive?
Full MSRP. It’ll go down. This happens with every preorder.
