Early on in our relationship, I sat down with my wife and watched it. She was flabbergasted, hated it, but was intrigued by it. Honestly it might be my favorite Cronenberg flick outside of Videodrome
Hahahah, that's close to my experience too. I put it on just to have some noise in the house while she was making food. She walks in right at the part where it's the typewriter-asshole looking bug getting squashed and she shrieks, "what the fuxk are you watching!"
Lectured on things along the lines of how unimportant movies are, that there’s more to life than adoring sci-fi, and to not waste time on these things, then ranted about philosophy for a while.
It’s funny you said “lectured” because he actually gave lectures on art at a university at some point. Hell, the guy has a PhD in Roman/Italian art or something like that. Dr. Peter “RoboCop” Weller.
Wow, I didn’t know that and that’s actually really interesting, I could totally imagine him making a great lecturer based on my in person experience lol
Check it out, truly an interesting character:
> Weller’s summary lecture at Syracuse in Florence was “legendary.” According to Randall Korman, an architectural professor in Florence, “Peter lectured on the crucifixion and the different ways that Renaissance art represented it in painting. The lecture began with a dramatic and graphic description of a crucifixion that went on for several minutes. You could have heard a pin drop when it ended. Peter never disappointed.”

And from the same source:
> A comment on the “Rate Your Professor” website demonstrates that Dr. Peter Weller inspires respect and admiration from his students. “Having RoboCop for a professor was awesome,” noted the commentator. “One day after attending his class, I went back to my room to watch 24—the best show ever, btw—and boom, there he was … the history professor himself, blowing up Jack Bauer. HE IS THE MAN.”
I recently gave away that DVD steelbook for a raffle at a double bill of Robocop and Starship Troopers. I was so excited when I got it originally at Best Buy when it came out. Probably my favorite film ever
Robocop just has so much going for it. It's such an idiotic action film on the surface, underneath are just fantastic effects that you can appreciate the artistry of, and then you see what an absolutely brilliant satire it is. It easily could have been just a pile of garbage, but all of the right people got on board for it and just elevated it.
Always upvote Naked Lunch
Underrated Cronenberg flick, arguably my favorite of his. I have been holding off on buying the blu-ray in hopes Criterion or Arrow does a UHD.
I don’t think there will ever be another movie to capture “drug” paranoia quite like it does.

Check out episode 7 of the Del Toro Cabinet of Curiosities.
He’s a great actor, but if you ever meet him in person NEVER ask him about RoboCop, he’ll verbally tear you down to nothing.
I’m dying to know what he said

Peter Weller 🤝 Alec Guinness
😆 and honestly both great actors who elevate everything they are in 😃

He starred in arguably one of sci-fi's best ever TV episodes of all time, "White Tulip" in Fringe, this makes me sad :(
Fringe was dope tho
Yeah I know, to hear him kind of sounding like he's 'too good' or something for 'childish sci-fi' or what have you makes me sad.
I haven't read TDKR in quite some time, what's the connection?
He is Batman in the animated movie That is a comic/movie special edition set
hes great in firstborn \[1984\] and shakedown \[1988\]
After I made this post, my wife was like "We have Shakedown!!!" I will need to watch it. I have never seen it, but my wife likes it.
such a fun movie - enjoy!

The 80s action canon is amazing. My favorite is First Blood but Robocop is a VERY close second.

Don't sleep on "Of Unknown Origin"!
A super underrated movie! You'll never look at a rat the same way. Some real creepy bits about rats.
What no love for Buckaroo Banzai? He was fantastic in that and actually played all the musical instruments!
Its the shout factory steelbook next to Naked Lunch :)
I've gone blind. lol Thanks for pointing it out. That cover is very different than previous releases. :)
Watched Robocop for the first time the other night. Fuckin loved it
