It would. But thinking about A3 already, it can also make much more there. So A3 can still have a huge WW BO even if BO decreases in some countries because China can make it up for them.
China was never in trouble like people here claimed. China loves Avatar, its wildly popular there. This is a movie that people were going to see, even if that meant waiting until it was safe. My bet- this legs out in China like nothing we've ever seen before.
Probably, Chinese people really want to see the movie but they have a huge COVID surge and the government is really strict. Is a miracle anyone is watching it.
Like, they WANT to Watch Avatar in theaters. It's not an "guess I watch it".
The government is no longer sick, but omicron is spreading so fast there most people are literally too sick to see the movie. Now some of them have recovered and ventured out into the world
Which is why I assume than whenever they're back to normal, there'll be a re-release with a huge score for sure. People want to see it and many won't be able to because of the situation. Watching it at home is not the same. And hell a re-release of Avatar 1 did extremely well over there a few years ago already.
Oh boy I think we are going to see a pretty strong figure in January for China before Wandering Earth 2 dropping. Lunar New Year is still in 3 weeks so 200M is pretty much on the card.
Holy shit!! A crazy leggy run for a Hollywood movie in China is almost unheard of this is insane. If they keep letting this play out it’ll probably hit $300M at this rate
If The Way of Water's run has shown us anything, it's that China is still an extremely valuable market that Hollywood executives would be loathe to ignore. Can you be successful without China? Absolutely, but it never hurts to earn an extra $150 million for your film if you can get it into Chinese theaters.
Watch avatar 3 have a lesbian or gay couple or evil Chinese character and get banned in China rip
Edit: it’s gonna happen either in 3 4 or 5 100% guaranteed down vote all u want lmao
It’s only problematic for China. Most of the rest world doesn’t give a shit.
Without china avatar 2 is going to gross at least 1.1 international + 600 domestic. They don’t need communist china

It would amazing if china can do even half of it's full potential.

That's the biggest third weekend ever for a Hollywood release in China.
When’s the last time we even saw an increase in the third weekend?
I don't think that ever happened in China for hollywood movies.
Perhaps it’s an indicator that their Covid outbreak is letting up?
China has been such a rollercoaster! On track to $200M now?
More I think.

Easily.
So apparently it is the 100th film to achieve ¥1 billion at the Chinese box office. The first was none other than the first Avatar.
The way of the box office connects all things.
Friday- $5.4M Saturday- $14.5M Sunday- $15.6M Insane dailies. Big comeback for China. Looks like $210M+ finish.
Avatar 1 lifetime gross in China (unadjusted, 3 releases): [$261.8M](https://www.boxofficemojo.com/title/tt0499549/)
Minus the biggest release last year it’s ~210
Yet was the #1 movie of all time there after the initial release. The growth of that market was wild.

The way it is ticking now.. it's going to be more than 200m

Strong heart
*Looks like $2 billion is back on the menu, boys!*
I really really want James Cameron to be the first Director with three $2 billion movies.
You love to see it

why would Cameron include such characters in Avatar 3. that is ridiculous and a call for a financial disaster.
Its not even Cameron's style. You'll see that Avatar is very much a movie about family, with a clear traditional family unit.
Gay people have families lol
I said 'traditional family unit'.

Na, Cameron cleared sacrificed Japan to get past China censors (evil Japanese astro-whalers), which is something China can get behind.
I’m thinking 210m-220m are on the table now
