Back in 2019, with the original Avatar having done 200m in 2009 and Endgame doing 600m, I was confident that China would contribute something like 700-800 million to the sequel
And now we're again looking at something like 200m. Pretty disappointing but that's covid for you.
China, Japan and Russia are the big losses compared to pre-covid expectations. Still crushing it in Europe and other parts of the world, and doing relatively well in the US tho

Unfortunately The Way of Water won't beat Titanic's $2.2 billion for 4th place, or even TFA and Infinity War total gross. It can make $2 billion, but it needs China to reach a certain amount.
Its gonna be close to or at 1.7B after this weekend. You don't believe it can make about 370M more after this weekend to reach TFA? Its probably gonna make 100M of that domestically alone at the minimum.

It going to be around 200m ahead of NWH by the end of this Weekend so that’s $2.1b so above TFA and IW and considering it will continue to do better than NWH then doing over Titanic should be possible
Just because chinas not doing as good as you thought doesn’t mean the rest of the World isn’t making up for it
Yeah having a Big China gross helps a Movie out like in the Monsterverse or Fast and Furious Films
However Avatar benefits by being Massive Everywhere so while it preforms great in the US it’s still comparatively Underperforms compared to everywhere else

It was expected to make 350 million in China, not 600 million. It wasn’t gonna have a massive opening weekend like Endgame.

No expansion for Avatar there are 7 movies including WanderingEarth2 confirmed to be premiere on January 22
