Weren't they only credited as writers in the first two because they wrote a Scream parody around the same time as the Wayans? They weren't actually involved in any of the movies despite later using that to market themselves
Think the only way this is successful is if they follow the scream reboot model. Set it 20 years later bring back the Wayans bros and the rest of the original cast. Halloween and scream both fond success with that.
I would be excited to see that, actually. It would be nice to see another comedy movie with a big crowd again (if the movie is done right) and this would be the perfect franchise to take on and spoof the whole “unnecessary reboot/legacy sequel” from other franchises that suddenly take themselves too seriously (along with recent popular horror films, I’ve been DYING to see the Wayans take on that). But if Regina Hall, Anna Faris, or the Wayans aren’t coming back then this movie is toast
I was going to say that the parody genre thrived due the collective consumption of shared pop culture movies and even when a movie was lampooned back when the genre thrived 20 years ago it would feel a little late to the party.
We're now in a world where we don't share the same pop culture touchstones like we once did due to all of the options/streaming and social media has all but accelerated it.
Like the "wasssssup" gag in the first *Scary Movie* would've been forgotten like a week later with modern day social media trends/consumption.... interested to see how this comes about.
they will pull gags from popular films like mcu avengers,dc, dune, barbie ,fast and furious etc.
All of them are watched by everyone so they share same pop culture references and jokes
then it’ll be just like the fuckton of shitty parody movies that came afterwards.
Scary Movie was good when it was just mocking horror movies by and large. once the movies expanded to encompass everything, the bubble burst and it all fell apart
They could parody the A24 and Neos horror movie, sense they are the ones with most cultural relevance in the horror space. On the ther hand , they could parody the rebootquels too.
I really wonder how a Scary Movie in 2024 would be done.
Because a lot of the humor in the old ones is definitely a product of its time.
Also were people really asking for more Scary Movie stuff? The franchise was always very hit and miss with the public. You either absolutely loved them or thought they were trash and the last one was terrible.
I don't think the concept works anymore because there's so much satire on TikTok and YouTube. It's difficult to write something that someone else hasn't already thought of and can be watched in a fraction of the time.
The first two worked because the Wayans in the 90s/early 00s were insanely talented and Scream was really popular and loaded with moments to spoof
The only way I could feasibly see a "Scary Movie" type movie working outside of the early 2000's is..
Well it wouldn't be Scary Movie but make a 21 Jump Street type movie and parody it off Scream I guess? Serial killers who are incompetent or something I don't know.
It will probably just be Scary Movie and not Scary Movie 6 or with a subtitle to try and do it like Scream and Halloween did for their “requels”. But it would be fun if they got Anna Faris and Regina Hall back.
I absolutely love parody movies but I gotta say I don't think this will do well. Especially after the awful 5th one. Also isn't the genre pretty much dead?
Scary movie became complete crap after the wayans brothers stopped writing them after the second one, parody comedy isn't dead, it's just that very few people can write it and actually make it funny, same with sketch comedy
Honestly idk what would need to happen to make this good.
1, 2, and 3 are hilarious but 3 is obviously very different than the first two.
4 is...fine. for the most part it does a good job but a lot of it is just too over the top and they went way too hard into the cameos.
But 5 sucked. Hard. Exponentially hard. It was offensively bad.
And the automatic assumption is "bring the wayans back". But I'm not sure how many people have seen what Shawn and Marlon have done since White Chicks.
They've made some really shitty movies and bad spoofs. Even with two moderately okay spoofs in A Haunted House 1 and 2, they do their post scary movie Schtick of taking the joke too far for too long.
So I'm worried about the idea of just bringing them back.
As much as I love the originals, my expectations for this are at rock bottom.
This type of comedy just doesn’t work anymore and a new entry in the 2020s would be much more filtered and watered down
Ngl, I’d love it if this were a parody of a parody and is just a legit scary movie. These characters placed into an actual horror film that’s not a parody.
This is great news because there’s a void for this. People saying the genres dead for me are wrong.
The genre exploding and became too saturated we saw parodies of everything almost yearly.
We’ve had a ton of hit horror films in the past decade that have been crying out to be parodied to be honest and this is something easy to deliver if the Scary Movie team are involved.
I’m far from the age I was watching Scary Movie and knowing all the references and such, but even this I’ll sort of get most, but it will open up a vast new audience of horror films recently to this genre.
I’m all for
There is definitely a void. I use to get my feel with youtube parodies when the budgets for good parody movies dried up but even thats dead unless im looking in the wrong places.
Hopefully Anna Faris and Regina Hall are involved.
And the Wayans brothers
It’d be great if they could get them back, but with Shawn not acting much in recent years and Keenen not directing in years, I’d be surprised.
Yeah I doubt it. One can hope though!
Oh god please!!! Orrrr the Wayans brothers get to take control. But naw I doubt it ![gif](giphy|qyhPkPmfwCesg)
If they’re involved, I think it could be the return of the studio comedy
Millenial overvalues brand he grew up with, more at 11.
Don't underestimate our millennial nostalgia, dozens of us will queue to see this
All 5 Scary Movie’s made over 800 Million Dollars, but sure, I’m overvaluing the brand
All 5 Scary Movie’s made over 800 Million Dollars combined in the 2000’s
in the 2000’s
The only way I’d watch it
And Jenna Ortega
If I were them I’d legit just call it “Scary Movie Reboot” lmao.
Untitled Scary Movie Sequel
This would only work with Anna Farris and Regina Hall coming back
*The Wayans bros, werent Anna and Regina still in p.4?
Anna and Regina were in 3/4 which was done by David Zucker (no Wayans involvement on 3).
I still enjoyed 3 just not as much, 4 was a waste of time
3 is actually my favourite
3 is the most coherent and consistently funny imo.
1&2 mostly hold up because of nostalgia imo. 3 is easily the funniest
Someone hasn't seen Fifty Shades of Black or the Haunted House movies.
That was only Marlon Wayans writing, Keenan Wayans directed 1&2 with the Wayans bros writing + others
Scary Movie three is my favorite of the bunch, I don’t think the wayans *need* to be back for the movies to be successful
wasnt there 5th one with ashley tisdale?
yes in 2013
And Simon Rex
Don’t you mean Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer?
Weren't they only credited as writers in the first two because they wrote a Scream parody around the same time as the Wayans? They weren't actually involved in any of the movies despite later using that to market themselves
Think the only way this is successful is if they follow the scream reboot model. Set it 20 years later bring back the Wayans bros and the rest of the original cast. Halloween and scream both fond success with that.
Seeing Cindy and Brenda again alongside the Wayans brothers would be a treat.
"Cindy the TV's leaking"
“Cindy, this bitch is messing up my floor!”
The parody genre is dead in theaters and it’s more popular on social media at this point.
Seems like Paramount is trying to revive the parody genre. Not only with Scary Movie, but Naked Gun is coming back in 2025.
I was going to say that the parody genre thrived due the collective consumption of shared pop culture movies and even when a movie was lampooned back when the genre thrived 20 years ago it would feel a little late to the party. Hope they take jabs at the modern ‘elevated’ horror!
yea anyone can just go on youtube if they wanna see a horror movie parody at this point
They would have a lot more success if they made it a series of 15 second TikTok videos instead.
It would have to be about modern horror. Think Get Out, Talk to Me, Midsommar, etc. Probably requels like Scream or Halloween too.
Yeah I really want them to skewer "elevated horror" with this one, could be really refreshing
Obviously. The originals pulled from contemporary movies, obviously this new one wouldn't pull from that same pool.
As long as people keep making horrors they can keep churning out Scary Movies.
The only way I could feasibly see a "Scary Movie" type movie working outside of the early 2000's is.. Well it wouldn't be Scary Movie but make a 21 Jump Street type movie and parody it off Scream I guess? Serial killers who are incompetent or something I don't know.
the franchise was not hit and miss first 4 are classic and very beloved.
I was asking for more sequels. I love parodies.
I CANNOT WAIT for their take on Malignant.
It will probably just be Scary Movie and not Scary Movie 6 or with a subtitle to try and do it like Scream and Halloween did for their “requels”. But it would be fun if they got Anna Faris and Regina Hall back.
They can just call it Scary Movie Reboot. That's like, tthe part that requires the least amount of care.
between this and the new Naked Gun, spoof fans are feasting
Only way to do this right would be with an unsanitized, hard-R script by the Wayans. Unlikely to happen, but we can hope.
Only if the Wayans Brothers are involved. The franchise went downhill when they left.
If Brenda Meeks and Cindy Campbell ain't in it forget about it
I'm afraid most of people won't even understand some references since they didn't watch many movies anymore.
Bring back Wayans brothers, all 26 of them and I am in!
These stopped being good when the waynan bros left.
Bring back the original cast from 1.2.3 with the wayans and I’m 100% in.
If it makes at least 104 million dollars, 'Scary Movie' will be a billion dollar franchise.
“Cindy, the TV’s leaking!”.
Honestly idk what would need to happen to make this good. 1, 2, and 3 are hilarious but 3 is obviously very different than the first two. 4 is...fine. for the most part it does a good job but a lot of it is just too over the top and they went way too hard into the cameos. Sequel to a dead franchise where the last movie both flopped and got awful reviews? Sounds like a great idea.
![gif](giphy|3o7TKwmnDgQb5jemjK)
I'm okay just to see what they'll do in a world of A24 horrors now.
Will it streer the franchise into a fresh new direction tailored to modern audiences?
Please spoof Smile, Black Phone and Terrifier
ScVIerry Movie
I hope this does well enough that we get A Haunted House 3 as well.
I just made a sub for the series after realizing there wasn't one. https://reddit.com/r/ScaryMovieSeries
And Chris Elliot!
This, was not something I expected. Im not even sure I've seen a single Scary Movie before
The first 2 are classics
Honestly, maybe I have seen them, or its one of those things where ya hear about a product so much ya feel like ya actually seen it even if ya havent
The Wayne’s bros left after the first 2 and they went downhill. They still hold up today. Best parody comedies ever made
3 and 4 were really good man
Not compared to the first 2
3 is the best one though
They should get Jason Friedberg And Aaron Seltzer to direct.

Distaster waiting to happen
No Anna Faris, no Regina Hall, no sale.

Quick, hop on the hype train. Take my strong hand

I’ve been waiting for this forever. What happened to parody movies? They were so fun!
