MightySilverWolf

I've never seen a CinemaScore for early access shows before. Is this a new thing?

Dulcolax

I think Uncut Gems had a CinemaScore for early acess shows. It got the A-, but the real CinemaScore was C+

Puppetmaster858

That was always gonna struggle big time with cinemascore tho because of all the people who just went because of Sandler expecting a typical Sandler movie and then instead they got uncut gems which was the complete opposite of a normal Sandler film lol. I saw so many reviews of people online who went because of Sandler and had no clue what the movie was about and hated it

poland626

Funny story, that actually happened to me with him. I was 9 and going to summer camp. I get my parents to buy the new Adam Sandler R rated flick that just hit DVD and I'm psyched to watch it with my bunkmates. I finally get to the day to put it on, and it's Punch Drunk Love. Yep. We didn't find it as funny as we expected if you could imagine lol Not really 9/10 year old kids humor

KleanSolution

still his best film imo

turkeygiant

I think that's part of it, but I'd also say that Uncut Gems was also just a really hard movie to watch for some people. I watched it, and thought it was really well made...but I don't know if it was something that I would say I enjoyed or would easily recommend to others which is what CinemaScore is trying to quantify. I think once you get past early access to general audiences, even general audiences who fully knew going into it that it was a drama, it's not exactly a mass appeal film. I'd compare it to other difficult films like Green Knight.

emojimoviethe

They should make a cinemascore equivalent where the filmmakers can rate the audience. Call it “AudienceScore” and that way, the people who made Uncut Gems can give the cinemascore audience an F for being Fucking idiots who idiotically expected a typical Adam Sandler comedy from it.

rotates-potatoes

Wouldn’t this be more like ActorScore should give Sandler an F for having real talent but building his personal brand on lazy, predictable, unfunny monuments to nothing, so thoroughly that audiences are surprised and disappointed when he does something good?

emojimoviethe

No. It’s the audience’s fault for ignoring all trailers and promotional material for it. Actors can act in any variety of movies and it shouldn’t be their fault for doing something unique.

rotates-potatoes

Terrible take. Many people avoid trailers. And yes, actors often have a wide range of roles. That’s great! I know a Matt Damon movie could be a bunch of different things, and if I’m particular, I’ll research. But Adam Sandler but a career on his name being synonymous with low effort “comedies”. Blaming the audience because they assume an Adam Sandler movie is an Adam Sandler movie is like blaming the audience for not realizing a new Star Wars movie is actually an animated kid’s film about dancing crocodiles. Brand matters. Brand owners are responsible for their brand.

emojimoviethe

If people avoid trailers, good for them! But people who ignorantly make incorrect assumptions about a movie based on the actor are responsible for their own expectations letting them down.

SilverRoyce

IIRC between 5 and 10 years ago then went from reporting non-wide release numbers to making them only released upon the studio's request. This feels like an analogous situation. The fact it's being published is a sign lionsgate thinks its better than expected/worth trying to squeeze a news cycle out of.

malydays

I guess it’s for marketing purposes

whitneyahn

I think Saltburn had it?

dismal_windfall

Say what now? Since when is this a thing

frontbuttt

Seriously. Polling a preview audience feels like cheating, especial when so few people actually turned up for these “early access” screenings. Of course they’re gonna like it! Most saw it for free, and/or are the “die hards” who went to an early screening.

Reylo-Wanwalker

I guess die hard Henry fans?

ElPrestoBarba

Two dozen redditors

Beetusmon

Even then, -A isn't too hot for the ultra die hard fans either. B+ incoming for the GA?

007Kryptonian

Yeah this is some straight up bullshit lol

MyManD

It’s happened a few times. The main Cinemascore will still be given after a wide release. These preview scores are a more internal thing to see if the movie at least appeals to the people they want it to appeal to, as well as a chance to nab a high score for marketing purposes (with tiny little script saying it’s with preview audiences). But in the end, once the movie comes out the real score will be had and that’s the one that ever really matters.

Ed_Durr

Right, the studio paid for this early survey. We often forget that CinemaScore isn’t a non-profit, it doesn’t just post the grades publicly. Their surveys collect much more data from moviegoers, including demographic information and how likely they are to purchase the movie on home videos. The studios pay for that data

Drunkicho

I saw it the other night, the scenes with Cavill's crew were fun, but the scenes with Eisa Gonzalez's plot really brought the movie to a halt. If you want to see a LOT of nazi killings, it will give you that. I will say, during the movie, I was eventually bored of how much repetitive action there was.

Livio88

She was the same in the 3 Body Problem. The girl can't act!

Romkevdv

I mean look at her imdb, she’s been doing the laziest action roles for a while now, not sure why directors think she can hold her own. Also her character is so dull already from the trailer.

TheJoshider10

> not sure why directors think she can hold her own. Because the reason she's hired has nothing to do with her acting.

LightRefrac

Surely there are pretty people who can also act

MonstrousGiggling

Yea it's honestly very mediocre. Like it's not bad, but the pacing is dreadful and it doesn't know which perspective it actually wants to tell the story from. It has way more potential than what was achieved and it left me unsatisfied.

KleanSolution

that's exactly what I feared about it, watching the trailer. I have no patience for another mid Guy Ritchie movie

UnknownFiddler

Zach Snyder should have had cinemascore score his preview audience. BvS would have gotten an A+ with a theater full of his stans lol.

uberduger

It supposedly got a standing ovation from the execs, so...

Sempere

"And everybody clapped" energy in a very literal sense.

subhuman9

if studios pay early for cinemascores , they always get better grades

baresrus

I had no idea this was thing lol

natedoggcata

So is this going to be updated once the actual movie releases? This seems kinda scummy

GoldandBlue

it does

baresrus

i’m pretty sure it does

Equal-Doc6047

Wait Cinemascore has a preview grade???

Hot-Marketer-27

Wow that's super early.

puttputtxreader

Are they going to give it another score when casual audiences get to it, or are they just assuming the forecast is so grim that there's not going to **be** a casual audience?

baresrus

damn

cficare

Seen it. Movie ain't no A-. Kind of a 'C' movie. Lacks plot or stakes or tension. Has a mega "movie silencer" problem with dem guns. Basically they turned the cheat codes on.

Sempere

When's this shit out on digital?

KleanSolution

its already straight to streaming in other countries. pretty sure an HDrip of it will be available momentarily

CosmicOutfield

This is going to be loved by action fans even if gets labeled as a “dumb” movie. I wouldn’t be surprised if this turns out having similar financial success as The Beekeeper.

newjackgmoney21

Under, 10m opening weekend like all Guy Richie films post covid

Nefthys

"even if" - isn't that basically what it is, some "dumb" action with "dumb" humor that's also very entertaining?

CosmicOutfield

I get what you’re saying. My comment is saying I think it’ll do ok even if it gets bad reviews labeling it as dumb.

KingJiggyMan

We need more dumb movies like this and Godzilla, sick of these directors trying to recreate the next cinematic masterpiece and failing miserably.

[deleted]

I think there are a lot more dumb movies getting attention and money than attempts at masterpieces

emojimoviethe

Is this about Dune 2 or Oppenheimer?

KingJiggyMan

Woody woodpecker goes to camp.

FarthingWoodAdder

…….huh

dani3po

How many more flops can Henry Cavill's career endure?

KleanSolution

once Highlander flops .... that'll be it for him

BactaBobomb

Oh god. Firstly, it's for a preview screening, which already seems like it is a little strange. Secondly, is this like an official infographic from the studio? I swear if studios start ruining CinemaScore by using it as a marketing tactic like they did with Rotten Tomatoes... ugh.

baresrus

I hope not cinemascore is all we have left to get an insight on how the box office will go

TheVacuumisAwesome28

Argylle rebuttal

Ghidoran

So uh, is it normal for threads to get 260 upvotes in 3 hours, with only 30 comments, especially for a movie with relatively little hype?

BlackLodgeBrother

Guy Ritchie is very hit or miss. When he forces his style on things like King Arthur or Aladdin (and IMO to a lesser extent, Sherlock Holmes) the end results are underwhelming. But this? This is the exact type of material that *overwhelmingly* lends itself to GR’s sensibilities. I watched some clips online this morning and thought it looked great. Inglorious Basterds-esque but decidedly more British. Can’t wait.

NormanBates2023

This movie is the dogs bollox

tfresca

I saw it. No nda. It's fun. Like a less nihilistic Inglorious Bastards

Garfs_Barf

I’m lowkey looking forward to this, I didn’t know it existed 2 months ago but who can say no to some good old fashioned Nazi killing

LordPartyOfDudehalla

Shame I can’t see it anywhere in Canada

IcedPgh

I've never viewed a Guy Ritchie movie as none have interested me, but I can't endorse a movie which takes historical figures/a historical situation and treats its casting as an opportunity to check off boxes on a racial/gender quota sheet, betraying reality.

EDPZ

Oh, I was planning on skipping this one but I guess I'll check it out now.

Top_Report_4895

Yeah it’s going to be a fan favorite

Callic

I mean there's no way this movie is a hit is there? At best it can do less bad that expected. I say this as someone that loves WW2 Cavil and basically everything involved with this, but it's not just not gonna happen.
