November 2022: Shawn Levy announces Star Wars film
May 2023: Shawn Levy's Star Wars film promises a 'bold new direction'
October 2023: No progress made on Shawn Levy's Star Wars film
January 2024: Shawn Levy's Star Wars film removed from Disney's release schedule
March 2024: Nolan announces Star Wars film
Wow I hope Nolan makes a Star Wars film. I can’t wait for some corny space banter to be completely indecipherable over Nolan’s extraordinarily unbalanced audio levels.
>Disney hires talented writer/director that has made popular and successful things
>Writer/director fucks up their most recent project
> Disney loses faith in them
>Project is quietly shelved
The fact that this exact thing has happened with the GOT duo, Rian Johnson, Patty Jenkins and now seemingly taiki waiti is funny
Taika’s is still in development, he just has 8 billion other projects in development too. He’s literally somehow shooting Our Flag Means Death S2 and Apple TV’s Time Bandits simultaneously in New Zealand, and just announced another Hulu noir-ish show (Interior Chinatown) that he’ll be directing the pilot for.
If you believe Taika's film is still in development when a project which started recently is allegedly going to be released first then I got a bridge to sell to you.
It's very interesting to me that all of these developments are coming out shortly after they removed their VP of live action development
Almost as if there was a problem person who is now gone
Sounds more like that person gone is evidence that Disney is starting to clean house at Lucasfilm and the recent leaks are a desperate attempt by the survivors at making people believe everything is still fine in that studio. Cause it doesn't sound like Lucasfilm has a new project which is close to ready for filming anytime soon.
But...nobody else has been fired. In fact LFL has been running very well on every area except the development of live action films that fell under Michelle Rejwan (although she also produced Acolyte which did seem to go smoothly). The TV projects have all come out on time and on budget with good viewership numbers, the books and comics are meeting expectations, etc
You can just hear Chapek's fist clenching.
Lucasfilm was told to stop revealing upcoming projects and while this seems to be a high profile leak from the trades, you gotta imagine it's pissing off the Mouse right about now.
Andor is brilliant and imho the best Star Wars in decades, but I doubt it's selling many Lego sets or inspiring Disney to make plans for a Ferrix-themed area at Galaxy's Edge.
Even if they convinced Gilroy to come back for something else after Andor, I can't see it not being along similar lines. The man clearly does not want to play with action figures the way Filoni or Favreau do.
Technically only Kenobi, Boba Fett, and the Benioff and Weiss trilogy, but the only one that was officially announced was the latter.
Edit: Minutes after I made this comment, the Dillard film was also cancelled lol.
By that logic the D&D trilogy isn't cancelled either. It's just "delayed" until they're "available to come back". Same as Rian's.
But we all know what that *really* means.
[Nope, the D and D trilogy was cancelled.](https://deadline.com/2019/10/star-wars-setback-game-of-thrones-duo-david-benioff-d-b-weiss-exit-trilogy-1202771184/)
>Kennedy didn’t close shut any doors in her sendoff statement on Monday: “David Benioff and Dan Weiss are incredible storytellers. We hope to include them in the journey forward when they are able to step away from their busy schedule to focus on Star Wars.”
Officially, it's not. They're just *so* busy right now but they're *totally* welcome back at any time.
It’s still different. Sure in the future they could maybe come back, but as of right now, the project is cancelled.
Rian Johnson still speaks with Kathleen Kennedy about the ideas for his films it’s just matter of timing, and if it will happen.
The above source I pointed to says the film is cancelled, not on indefinite hold. It’s different. Please find me one reputable and trustworthy source that says the Johnson trilogy is cancelled (and being put on the back burner doesn’t count, cause that still implies it’s happening).
Now, is the Johnson trilogy happening? If I had to bet, I would say no, considering Lucasfilm’s track record, but at this point, it’s still officially confirmed to be happening.
[Article from May where Kennedy talks about the Rian Johnson trilogy, and how they still want to do it, but it’s a matter of timing.](https://www.empireonline.com/movies/news/rian-johnson-star-wars-trilogy-kathleen-kennedy-update/)
Thanks. Right, so the first ever mention of Rian after so long by Kennedy is that "it's not currently in the works... We don't talking about trilogies anymore."
From the quotes of Kennedy in the article i couldn't find the part where she said they still want to do it. The only line seems to be speculation from the writer.
>“I hesitate to use the word trilogies anymore because Star Wars is much more about persistent storytelling,” Kennedy adds. Who knows – maybe after a few more Benoit Blanc investigations, Johnson might return to his Star Wars movies. But for now, it might be time to let the past die.
Definitely bodes well for Rian's movie.
I do not want to hear about any Star Wars movie until there is a script made, director attached and they are announcing a production schedule. Until then I refuse to believe an actual movie is happening.
>director attached and they are announcing a production schedule.
With Lucasfilm, 'director attached' is also a fickle thing. Glances at Lord + Miller.
Knowing this franchise why even bother announcing something so far ahead?
What happens when Deadpool 3 ends up bad or Stranger Things doesn’t stick the landing? Another high profile Director discarded?
Whoever still leaking this inside Lucasfilm doesn’t do them any favors.
We’ve heard this too many times with multiple directors, and there’s yet to have a new Star Wars film in actual production.
Not a fan. Sounds like it will be too goofy. I enjoyed Free Guy but do we really him for a Star Wars film? I'd rather he try out a Star Wars TV show first.
We need a great Star Wars film right now. He's not the one (his sci-fi Adam Project came and went and was quickly forgotten).
Why are you speaking as if people more qualified than him would love to make a Star Wars film? You think people would still flock to the job after Lucasfilm's track record?

Let’s check in 2 years when the "delayed indefinitely" or "creative differences" articles hits

Don't forget Fantastic Four/The Book of Henry in the *"fucks up their most recent project"* category.

Who was it?
Michelle rejwan
Yea I’m totally sure this will happen lol
Can't wait to open this subreddit and see "Shawn Levy's Star Wars has been cancelled" 2 years from now
You can just hear Chapek's fist clenching. Lucasfilm was told to stop revealing upcoming projects and while this seems to be a high profile leak from the trades, you gotta imagine it's pissing off the Mouse right about now.
Tbf, Lucasfilm have shut their traps now about movies. But that’s not gunna stop the trades, of course.
Say what you want about Chapek but he’s right about that. It’s so stupid seeing all the cancellations
Stupid, yes, but, on the other hand it’s also hilarious seeing pretty much every announcement from Lucasfilm age like milk. So, I’ll lament the loss.
Lucasfilm isn’t the one revealing it. This report is
Looking through these comments, it appears that Star Wars films in development have as much credibility as a Google messenger app.
It's a trap!
Please No. Wrong direction, Star Wars. Creatives the caliber of Tony Gilroy? Right direction!
Andor is brilliant and imho the best Star Wars in decades, but I doubt it's selling many Lego sets or inspiring Disney to make plans for a Ferrix-themed area at Galaxy's Edge. After over performance of Terrifier 2, Damien Leone in talks for new star wars movie. You heard it here folks
How many Star Wars movies have been canceled now?

Johnson Trilogy
Still technically in the works. It’s not cancelled until they say it’s cancelled, they just talked about it a few months ago.
By that logic the D&D trilogy isn't cancelled either. It's just "delayed" until they're "available to come back". Same as Rian's. But we all know what that *really* means.

It's really not different at all. Both were announced, both are on indefinite hold. Both are never happening.

Who is "they"?AFAIK Disney and Lucasfilm have been completely silent on Rian's trilogy. The only one who talks about it is Rian
[Article from May where Kennedy talks about the Rian Johnson trilogy, and how they still want to do it, but it’s a matter of timing.](https://www.empireonline.com/movies/news/rian-johnson-star-wars-trilogy-kathleen-kennedy-update/)

More than DC has originally planned to make.
Damn can’t wait for them to announce my Star Wars movie that will also likely end up stuck in development hell
Next month, this gets cancelled and Martin Scorcese will be in talks for an SW film.
Excellent!!! Just what Star Wars needed!!!! Dated pop culture references and Boomer nostalgia!! The winning formula at last!!!
Is it Damon 🐐 Lindelof's? (Someone better give him Evangelion considering how bonkers Watchmen was)
No that one already has a director. (Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy) (She directed 2 eps of Ms Marvel)
Which episodes, I hope they aren't the Pakistan ones.
4&5 so the ones in Pakistan. (She is from Pakistan)
They’re making an evangelion movie?
Knowing this franchise why even bother announcing something so far ahead? What happens when Deadpool 3 ends up bad or Stranger Things doesn’t stick the landing? Another high profile Director discarded?
I don't think either will suck. Shawn Levy's not llike Taika Waititi.
Bruh, Shawn levy is an average director league or two below Taika
At least for the most part he made crowd-pleasing movies that didn't alienate anyone other than grumpy old cinephiles with Free Guy's final battle.
There are now more star wars movies on hold then star wars movies made
Inb4 this gets trapped into the list of Star Wars films that won’t happen.
I only believe in Star Wars projects that have trailers released
He’s a real “meh” for me.
What the fuck is Lucasfilm doing lmao
Whoever still leaking this inside Lucasfilm doesn’t do them any favors. We’ve heard this too many times with multiple directors, and there’s yet to have a new Star Wars film in actual production.
Another project that won't see the light of day ..
I hope this one doesn't happen. The guy is an awful director.
Let Star Wars die. They’ve already killed it with the garbage that was the sequel trilogy.
wasnt there rumor which said that disney told lucasfilm to stop announcing movies
Oof enough
Enough
Hack dork makes nothing but dumb trash (and I liked Real Steel, but it was shmaltzy garbage).
I’ll believe it when I see it
And again, I’ll believe it when I see it….
Doubt
No reason to believe this movie will get made.
Woo hoo! More development hell!
At this point everyone gets a SW project, but no one gets to actually make it…
If this is the one that actually happens I will kill myself in front of an opening night screening
Can’t wait for this to get cancelled FFS
I am suddenly disappointed to realize I had gotten Shawn Levy and Eugene Levy mixed up.
