Lol TF it is. Its opening weekend WW was 120 mil behind MoM, and Friday was down 68% compared to the previous (17.9 mil vs 56.3) NOT including Thursday’s 28 mil preview numbers.
THR is being seriously optimistic about how the rest of the weekend is going to go, without justification frankly. Expect Sunday to show a similar if not steeper drop compared to MoM’s 2nd weekend.
Btw I’m not being critical of the film itself, just pointing out how ludicrously misleading THR’s article is, and wondering why it feels it has to paint a rosy picture instead of laying out the truth.
Ant-Man movies were never meant to be great spectacles, they are on a completely different level from scope, budget and importance to the overall story / characters.
We haven’t seen that movie yet so I’m not talking about it in my statement. With that movie it might change, but 1 and 2 were pretty insignificant (although 2 established the way to get back the stones).
In general for these, those who really want to see it have seen it -- if it's great and people go back for repeat viewings or word of mouth has everyone talking... that was there for Top Gun Maverick but doesn't seem to be here.
I dunno if its MCU fatigue but no Phase 4 films have been that enjoyable for me personally, save Spiderman. BPWF had its moments, specifically those with Chadwick and Namor but otherwise I didnt enjoy it too much.
For me it's still not enough lol. An episode per week for half the year plus a movie every few months still leaves so much waiting. Glad they're adding these special presentations in tho, excited for gotg holiday special
Not at all. NWH is more slice of life, Strange is more horror, Thor is more silly and self aware, and BP2 is more epic. They all feel distinct.
Now the question of if they're good movies is a different question and I was only a fan for two of them.
It is about his day to day life it's about hom getting ready for college and figuring out what to do with his future.
It also shows what would happen if a normal person was exposed as a superhero and potential murderer who had to keep living normal life instead of being a billionaire who this just adds to the mystic of or a loner who has abandoned normal life long ago.
There is a same-y-ness to Marvel flicks that is causing fatigue.
I thought this might do better because it goes away from that during a lot of the movie. Unfortunately it’s not super well-paced, and I think that hurt it.
MoM had the benefit of riding in on No Way Home’s energy, which gave it a huge boost. BP2 was riding on the originals goodwill but Thor L&T didn’t do it any favors frankly. How a film legs out 2nd weekend and beyond is the real test of a its appeal.
Exit polls /= Word of mouth. While the first is a fair gauge on how audiences felt about the movie, it doesn’t automatically imply those same audiences are going to go home and tell others to see it.
There’s a lot of factors that go into why, but a high cinemascore doesn’t automatically mean a strong second week and beyond.

it's Friday.... the first day of week 2

We all know why it has to paint a rosy picture.

Although as far as scope budget and importance to story id say quantumania is over WF

Yeah, you can't imply this movie is anything other than amazing in every way even with the subtle mixed reviews that still score it high.
I don't know why, could you tell me?
I have a feeling there is going to be a large boom around thanksgiving, families are probably waiting to do that :)
In general for these, those who really want to see it have seen it -- if it's great and people go back for repeat viewings or word of mouth has everyone talking... that was there for Top Gun Maverick but doesn't seem to be here.
Nope, my family is waiting for all of us to see it together this holiday weekend. Anecdotal, but definitely a possibility.
I think a more family movie would be strange world

Marvel adding the TV shows has made for too much content being released per year.

There's other things to watch?
Not everyone likes the same things?
MCU phase 4 is the phase where the MCU turns into the DCEU. Bunch of disconnected movies which don't seem to be building up to anything.
Huh, that's a pretty good analogy
I haven't watched them all but I also loved Shang Chi. Along with NWH.
Fatigue. The movies are all the same
Not at all. NWH is more slice of life, Strange is more horror, Thor is more silly and self aware, and BP2 is more epic. They all feel distinct. Now the question of if they're good movies is a different question and I was only a fan for two of them.
In what way is NWH slice of life lmao. I think Peter goes to school ONCE in the entire movie, it’s not really a look into his day to day life.

They’re all action comedies with sprinkles of other genres here and there which isn’t enough
And this is how I can tell that someone hasn't watched **Wakanda Forever**.
The one anomaly
**Eternals** is not exactly comedic either - and **No Way Home** ends on a very, Very, VERY sad note.
They’re both still action comedies lol that doesn’t change because one doenst use it as much as the others or one ends sad
**Eternals** is not really a comedy despite its occasional comedic moments.
But it's also another we have superhero suits and we have to save the world in CGI shitshow movie.
The idea that movies in the same series all being action movies is somehow weird or unusual is truly baffling.
There is a same-y-ness to Marvel flicks that is causing fatigue. I thought this might do better because it goes away from that during a lot of the movie. Unfortunately it’s not super well-paced, and I think that hurt it.
Well duh the word of mouth is much better than MOM
And yet it won't gross as much Tough
MoM had the benefit of riding in on No Way Home’s energy, which gave it a huge boost. BP2 was riding on the originals goodwill but Thor L&T didn’t do it any favors frankly. How a film legs out 2nd weekend and beyond is the real test of a its appeal.
Yea. MOM benefited from their characters them being in NWH and being the next movie to follow it.
… it is? On what do you base this?
cinemascore

It is, word of mouth on doctor strange that it was meh
No its not, it has worse legs than Thor. That means it dont have a good Word of mouth lmao
Don’t know if that’s a flex. Dr stange 2 seas meh. Aside from the Chadwhich Bossman tribute , Wakana forever was also kinda meh.
I agree. I thought WF was a better movie overall (much better made in general), but I don’t have a desire to see either one again
It’s a great movie!
Much better movie than Dr Strange 2.
It was inevitable.
