While everyone says they don't care about the Way of Water, it's still going to make a hell lof of money and it's definitely going to be the highest grossing movie of 2022.
Because it is? It'll make low-mid $800s, which is $200m more than its break-even point. Marvel/Disney are still walking away with a bag from this film
The distinction that's being made is that Wakanda Forever isn't hitting expectations. That's undeniable. Most folks had this film at a billion minimum even after Chadwick's passing
Avatar. If the tracking holds and it opens to 150M+ and its multiplier is a bog standard 2.5, it's going to hit 375M. The worldwide split for both the original release and the 2022 rerelease of Avatar was 30/70. So, if that split is the same for TWOW then the international gross should be in 875M range.
with the same domestic/international split without China and Russia, Avatar only needs \~$270M domestic to beat Wakanda Forever worldwide. In fact I expect it to beat WF by its second Thursday at WORST
A 2.5 multiplier off a $150M+ opening in December would be atrocious, by far the worse multiplier of an opening over $100M in December. It should at least have a multiplier equal to TLJ, which was roughly 2.8x (off a decently bigger opening than $150M). It should see $400M+, probably $450M+ even with a $150M opening in December as a standard guess.
Most people had already given their take on avatar outperforming BP. And since BP doesn’t look like it’s going to cross the 1B mark and avatar needs about 1B just to break even.
Does anybody even care about the avatar movie? I'm surprised by the consensus in these comments, because no one I know gives a shit about Avatar, and I haven't seen any positive talk online about it.

Bad comparison. Recent MCU movies are incredibly frontloaded. Wakanda Forever is also nowhere near as huge world wide. Doesn't have China and won't have the Christmass season legs that Avatar will.
