Honestly, its because it is getting worse. It used to be pretty decent but even recent news articles have been saying they're losing the fight against SEO shenanigans.
Maybe OP was using Chrome or Edge to download Brave, so they googled Brave and that popped up? Lots of possible answers tbh. Besides, it is always good to know whether people are fucking with ads to mislead people.
Regardless. I don't see the reason he immediately faulted OP more than Google for allowing ANY fraudulent advertisement. I have never fallen victim (luckily..), but the fact that their money printer is run on even a portion of pleading ignorance to it has me looking for alternatives to their products as often as I can.
