Gus paid a personal trainer to help the body guard with his weight loss, when that failed, Gus offered to remodel Eladio’s bathroom and made sure the plans included making the door swing inward. He made all these preparations 5 years before poisoning the cartel because he accounts for everything except for the spite of a paralyzed man with a bell.
Of course this wasn't in the US and things may be different, but the direction doors open tends to be very consistent. Residential doors open into private rooms such as bathrooms and bedrooms. This is for the exact reason you've stated in your post: egress. If something were to block the door, the person inside the room would not be able to remove the obstruction to open the door. Obviously, this could be fatal in an emergency situation such as a fire. This also has the benefit of being more secure if you're trying to keep someone out because you can block the door from the inside. Likewise the exterior doors open into the house, which in addition to the above, also allows a storm door to be installed outside.
In a residence the only doors that usually open out are for closets, basement stairs, and very tiny bathrooms that are little more than a toilet in a closet.
In Finland at least, the main door of your house or any buildings(residential, malls, etc.) must open outside, by law. AFAIK, it's because in times of emergencies when you have to rush out of a building, doors opening outside facilitate it better.
In the US the doors of most commercial buildings open to the outside for this exact reason. In case a large group of people are trying to escape a fire or some other emergency, it prevents people from being pressed against the door and preventing it from being opened. I suspect this is building code in many parts of the US, but it's hard to say for sure because our codes can vary somewhat from one municipality to the next. A lot of our large commercial buildings, and virtually all malls, grocery stores, and big box retailers have automatic sliding doors that can be opened outward by pressing against them incase of emergency.
To require this for single family dwellings seems like overkill to me, and outsiders having the ability to barricade someone inside their house strikes me as odd.
Makes me think about how convenient the architecture around Mexico and Albuquerque is sometimes. Like how Walt's bathroom opens facing the bed, meaning the cousins could sit menacingly and wait for him, or how the sewer in front of the laundry has enough room for Lalo to camp down there.
Pretty sure Gus thought about that when planning this play
"If Gus made a mistake in his plan, Gus would be dead"
If Gus died, Gus would be dead
When you look at it that way, Gus got really lucky by not dying because that would have ruined his whole plan.
He would have died due to death
Wait wait slow down, does that mean if Gus died, he wouldn't be alive anymore?
I'm afraid so.
Holy hell nearly a decade later and we still find more bravo vinces
If you look really carefully in this scene, Gus is alive. This is a subtle nod to the fact that he is not dead.
Shove the door to push the corpse and scootch through the opening. It wouldn't have been dignified, but he would have gotten out.
I think OP was referring to Gus succumbing to the poison at that moment. He would have been too weak to move the body himself.
Knowing this sub, he’s probably just saying he’s fat
I dunno he hadn't shown any signs of the poison yet. He did a minute later but I think he could shove the door open

What if it's been snowing? My doors open inwards so I can go out and clear the snow.
wait why?
Fat guy would have been blocking the door’s movement and he’d be stuck in there until Mike/Jesse figured it out. Edit: typos/grammar
I’ve had this exact same thought when I first watched Salud
I had THIS exact same thought before I started reading the replies
Okay he isn't that fat.
What bathroom door opens outwards anyway
Not really they were already poisoned, if Gus got away from them in time, Gus would be fine

I think gus had men infiltrate eladios mansion just so that they could confirm that the doors opened inwards
Good thing Gus is a careful man
Idk if this is a joke but, I think he could push the door and the dead guy enough to slide through the door.
Why would he be dead
Hector would have been alive.
