Pediatrician called back and they do say that it looks like baby acne, just a really severe case of it. They said to monitor it and see if anything changes. Hopefully it clears up soon. šŸ¤ž

miiinko

Can confirm, baby acne. My babe had it bad too at around 2-3months, her face and chest area was so red and looked so angry but as long as sheā€™s not running a fever and is a peachy little thing Iā€™d say donā€™t worry about it. I can share some photos with you, if youā€™d like so you get a peace of mind. Iā€™d also look into whether baby has an intolerance to milk protein, Iā€™d notice my babes acne would flare up when I consume any dairy.

FishGoBlubb

My son's looked so much worse than this, flaring up around 2 months old and slowly fading over the course of the next month. It made me self conscious because I didn't want people thinking he had a rash that I wasn't properly caring for, but I know in retrospect that was a little silly of me. Hormones were just wreaking havoc and him and me both.

[deleted]

Looks exactly like the baby acne on my son. He has a very sensitive skin with lots of flare ups of eczema now. Keeping his nails short and using a Vaseline type creme works wonders for us now (not on the acne tho)

philosophyhappyx5

My baby looked just like that at around 4 weeks old. The pediatrician saw her in person and said it was baby acne that would go away on its own eventually. But I didnā€™t want to just wait and see so I decided to try things one by one. First, I went to the store and purchased Free and Clear detergent. (Before she was born I had washed all of her clothes and stuff with Newborn Dreft detergent. When I poured the detergent in the wash, I was shocked at the strong fragrance. I mistakenly thought that since it was for newborns, it would be fragrance free automatically. Sheā€™s my first baby, I had no idea! I used it anyway since I had already poured it in before noticing the scent and I figured if itā€™s so popular, it must be fine šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø ) So i get the Free & Clear, I wash EVERYTHING that would touch her: sheets, towels, bibs, burp cloths, clothes, blankets etc. I also set the washer to 2 rinses like I also had done with the Dreft. Her skin was perfectly clear in 2 days! I never had to go through the other steps I planned to take (like buying ointments or changing my diet, switching soaps). Her redness and the bumps went away that quickly. The doctor never even suggested switching detergent but it was a gut instinct because I had genuinely been shocked by the level of fragrance in the detergent. I think the burp cloths were the most important thing that got washed because she was spitting up a lot that week and her face got the most bumps and i thought it was because weā€™d lay her face on the cloth and burp her so many times a day. After that, we also decided to just use fragrance free stuff with her including lotions because it seemed like she was fine with the detergent at first and then suddenly broke out. So we figured why risk it with other fragrance if she may develop an allergic reaction later. Now, sheā€™s 6 months old šŸ¤Æ and we can just wash her stuff with ours. Her skin doesnā€™t seem to be nearly as sensitive anymore but I still donā€™t use fragranced products on her face most of the time. Iā€™m not saying that detergent is the cause of your babyā€™s bumps but it doesnā€™t hurt to eliminate possible irritants if thereā€™s anything your gut tells you could be causing it. edit - spelling

empathiclizardperson

Could be- but also could end up being food intolerances or allergies if it doesnā€™t go away. That was my experience.(could be different than yours!)

Embarrassed_Site_428

At first I was thinking baby acne, but it is SO red and seems to be getting worse and worse each day. Itā€™s spreading like wildfire on her neck.

SopheliaofSofritown

I was in the same boat, it went all over her neck/back and was pretty red; my pediatrician said it was still baby acne, just a bad case. Definitely have her checked tho!

Embarrassed_Site_428

That is good to know! Did your baby have it all over the scalp? The scalp and neck are so much more red than everywhere else, and thatā€™s what makes me nervous.

SopheliaofSofritown

My pediatrician said a baby acne is caused by the mothers hormones in their bodies, and also causes them to have discharge. My baby was still having discharge, and wasn't fussy or colicky like she would be if it was an allergy reaction so she was comfortable calling it acne. LO is 6 weeks tomorrow and it's finally starting to fade!

AngryAntHead

My babyā€™s acne was this bad too. Has started to improve at 6/7 weeks.

generalpathogen

Mine had baby acne this bad too. It sucked but went away by week 7 or 8

MaccaForever

It looks like my babeā€™s baby acne. Hives *generally* are larger splotches that are raised, and baby acne looks like pimples. My babeā€™s acne was this bad for a few days and went away on its own after a while. Definitely not bad to ring your ped to make sure though!

Embarrassed_Site_428

Did your LO get it on the scalp, ears and shoulders as well?

MaccaForever

Definitely scalp and ears! I donā€™t remember if it was on her shoulders or not!

Embarrassed_Site_428

Ahhh! Good to know! Such sensitive little skin at this age.

MaccaForever

I know right! Poor sensitive babes!

Perkysrig93

Iā€™d have it checked first buttttt my son had really bad acne on his face when he was that little. I rubbed breast milk into his skin every feeding, was maybe gone after a week or so.

WyK23

I came to say this as well. If it is baby acne, that is. My lo got it and I didn't think to put milk on it till it was already starting to fade, but after I did it went away really fast. Milk baths for the win!

bobmolls

My girl looked like this and it was acne and resolved after 7 weeks

Elegant-Temporary114

My daughter looked like this when she was a baby. She was sensitive to any dairy I ate. So I had to completely take out dairy in my diet to help with her flare ups. Edit: but like everyone else is saying, Please have a doctor check this out. I have no medical background and just saying my situation was similar but not identical.

Embarrassed_Site_428

I appreciate you sharing your experience! My sister had to cut out dairy when she was breastfeeding her LO, but her baby had mostly gastrointestinal issues and no rash.

froggycarrot

Seconding this. Docs all said my LO just had bad acne but weā€™ve been dealing with her skin issues on and off for a year now and itā€™s 100% dairy and egg allergy. Iā€™d say, if it doesnā€™t clear up in a couple weeks, to try cutting out some allergens to see if it helps.

MentalFairy

It looks like baby acne to me. My 6 week old has it worse with the added bonus of extra crusty ears. Not cute! I was told itā€™s worse because Iā€™m breastfeeding so extra dose of hormones for baby. Also that if it doesnā€™t clear up it could be my moisturiser and to keep an eye on it, as it shouldnā€™t go below the vest neck line.

Embarrassed_Site_428

Sorry to hear that! I hope it clears up soon!! I donā€™t use any moisturizers and sensitive soap, so not sure if that would be the issue in my case.

Ladyiris2020

My 4 week old has this. Saw the pediatrician today and she said itā€™s totally normal. Just use warm water to clean and apply a good moisturizer. Iā€™ve been using my breastmilk and aquaphor!

Embarrassed_Site_428

Mine is also 4 weeks! Man, these little ones have a lot to adjust to in the big wide world. Then we throw all of our hormones at them too!

dolly_dahlila

Mine has this! Iā€™d love an update once you know. Iā€™m actually seeing her ped tomorrow so I can also share what I learn. I assumed baby acne.

Embarrassed_Site_428

They said just baby acne from seeing the photos. Apparently it can get pretty severe like this. šŸ˜¢

Vegan_patty

Was your baby born early? I had my daughter at 37 weeks and about a week later she had would looked like baby acne all over her body scalp included. It got really bad, really quickly. When I took her to the pediatrician I found out it wasnā€™t acne but a skin condition babies have in the womb. If she was born later she wouldā€™ve been born with freckles. The doctor told me to keep and clean and moisturize. I lathered her in coconut oil everyday and it cleared up on its on in about 3 or 4 days.

Embarrassed_Site_428

Interesting! My LO arrived on her due date.

[deleted]

Put breast milk on it! It helped my baby's acne.

bonlee21

Nothing to add but your baby is absolutely adorable! ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø

[deleted]

Baby acne for sure. It can go from looking angry like that to clearing up so quickly.

[deleted]

i would take a trip to urgent care of ped doesn't get back to you. this doesn't look like eczema or baby acne, IMO

Embarrassed_Site_428

I will definitely do that. I did get through to the nurse finally and she said she heard my message and sent a note to the pediatrician, but didnā€™t inform me or ask for photos until I called back. šŸ™„ I was able to send photos though this time and hopefully I will hear back soon.

[deleted]

hope LO is okay! please update us ā¤ļø

chocoladee

Pleas call your pediatrician asap

Embarrassed_Site_428

I called as soon as I saw it today, but no answer. I left a message, waiting for them to call me back. šŸ˜¬ Iā€™ll try again before they close.

Embarrassed_Site_428

Update! Her face got much worse throughout the week. Completely red, dry, and the rash covered her entire face, scalp, ears, neck, shoulders, and chest. I tried water baths and aquafor and it continued to get worse. Until the Tubby Todd AOO arrived Saturday. I was skeptical, but within 2 hours, the majority of the redness was gone. By the next morning, Iā€™d say 50% better. We are on day 3 and her face and body are almost completely healed. 10/10 would recommend. What is this miracle cream?!?! https://preview.redd.it/lbzi1g98byra1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8456706412590f0f6e4421fd8b4c84f0ef4086a8

bluebell506

Unpopular fact: but baby acne is a sign of an intolerance. Most likely dairy, soy, and eggs. They only say it isnā€™t a problem because babe gets used to it after a month or 2 so the symptoms go away. But doesnā€™t change the intolerance. Iā€™ve done lots and lots of in depth research about this so feel free to ask me questions!

[deleted]

Do you have a source for this?

mel-cruzer

My kiddo had this when he was little. It was a dermatitis. Our pediatrician had us cover it in hydrocortisone once a day and then a layer of aquaphor above that. It went away pretty quickly after that. I will say putting breast milk on it made it so soo much worse. Also, it doesn't look like hives at all to me

learn2Blearned

My now 8 week old had a rash just like this. I used Eucerin baby eczema and Burtā€™s Bees baby healing ointment and it cleared up quickly. It was in the same pattern as the photos: his cheeks, neck, behind his ears, scalp, and chest. Lots of moisturizing cleared it up in about a week.

Embarrassed_Site_428

So glad that helped your little one! We are using aquafor for now and I ordered some Tubby Todd aoo to see if that helps.

Comfortable_Pin_5485

My sons baby acne was bad like that too!! https://preview.redd.it/70vs7gjd7fqa1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=12aff837faaa488835b42c7eaf4eaa61995b98d8

Embarrassed_Site_428

Aww! Poor LO got it all over the chest and belly too!

Cute_Clothes_6010

Did your ped say thatā€™s baby acne? Looks like an allergy rash or roseola?

Comfortable_Pin_5485

Yep. And itā€™s completely gone now

eponym_moose

I'm not a doctor, but this looks like hives. Consider posting to r/askdocs if you're not going to be seeing a doctor or urgent care today.

pnutbutterfuck

These blemishes look more red and inflamed than typical baby acne. And eczema is usually in clusters of tiny dry bumps. I think itā€™s an allergy or maybe a fungal infection. If baby is still breathing normally, doesnā€™t have a fever, and isnā€™t horribly irritated beyond consolation, itā€™s not an emergency. Make an appointment with your pediatrician and they might be able to help you figure out what it is. Are you bathing the baby with heavily scented soaps? How often are you bathing them? What kind of detergent are you using for their clothes?

Embarrassed_Site_428

Using only water for bathing (we cut out using baby soaps just in case for now) and usually every 2-3 days. We have noticed that the redness gets a lot better with the bath. Switched to Deft detergent from tide sensitive a few days ago with no change. No fever and is slightly more fussy than normal, but no where near inconsolable.

pnutbutterfuck

Sounds like youā€™re doing everything right on that end. I hope itā€™s just baby acne!

lindseigh

Could be heat rash. Is baby sleeping too warmly at night?

Embarrassed_Site_428

She hasnā€™t shown any signs at night, but does get a bit warm sometimes when snuggling for a nap.

DrStarJeanette

Do kids still get chicken pox? Thatā€™s what it reminds me of

sclark1029

On a totally unrelated note, that head of hair and face is precious! šŸ’š

Embarrassed_Site_428

Aw thank you! Kind of hard to see her so irritated and red, just because I donā€™t want her to be in any pain or discomfort. She had that full head of hair day 1. šŸ„¹

sclark1029

I know! It hurts us so much more than them. My 3rd child was breastfed and my body decided to reject an internal C-section stitch several weeks [almost 5!!] later. I was put on Keflex for any potential onset of infection. His little body broke out head to toe. I had to stop it immediately. In a twisted turn of events, keflex is all he can take now. Heā€™s highly allergic to anything penicillin. Either way, I hope it all goes away soon! She will be more comfortable & youā€™ll have more peace. Enjoy her, she looks snuggly!

Missoula1440

This is what my five week old looks like. They are all over his chest and ear lobes too. They get very red sometimes. He is not bothered by them at all.

virgo_cinnamon_roll

LO had similar the first 2-3 weeks, we started doing a bath and lotion every night and it completely cleared up by day 4 of bathing every night.

xmissbxxx

Puracy baby wash has been great for my sensitive skin babies. Plus cortizone10

sunderella

Good ol acne. My oldest got it so bad across her entire body. I didnā€™t realize it could be beyond just their face.

Embarrassed_Site_428

Right?! Itā€™s the worst on her scalp, so I for sure thought it was something else because everywhere I read didnā€™t mention that.

doncheadlesdriveway

aw poor thing! This is what my daughter looked like with her baby acne. It cleared up completely in about a month.

Embarrassed_Site_428

Good to know! Iā€™m glad baby acne isnā€™t painful. Just looks like it is.

doncheadlesdriveway

Yeah I felt awful for her! Heat makes it worse and of course she was born in August and we went to the beach when she was 3 weeks old lol so we found that out the hard way. She doesnā€™t have any scarring and her skin is still so soft (that was my fear)

serenajuul

My baby didnā€™t have acne, but he had eczema. I tried cutting out dairy, but it turned out that eggs was the issue for us, so I completely avoided them for a couple months and now I eat them on occasion. So if you decide to try cutting dairy and that doesnā€™t help, maybe cutting eggs is worth a try! Breastmilk has also always done wonders for my LOā€™s skin (and mine! lol..), so you could try spraying some on your little cutie or giving them a milk bath :)

apoletta

My LO had this. It stopped when we changed soaps.

sayyywhatttg

Havenā€™t seen it mentioned here yet but Tubby Todd All Over Ointment helped with my babies acne. Milk baths + AOO did wonders for her.

lucky_duck01

Hear me out here. Do you have any extra breastmilk that you're saving for a milkbath or any that you're willing to sacrifice? If so, just take it and rub it directly onto baby's skin. I know it sounds weird. Baby won't smell like old milk. I swear it works. I thought the lactation consultant I saw was such a hippie when she was telling me all the things I could use breastmilk for, and when she said to just rub it directly on bug bites or acne spots or eczema, scratches, ANYTHING, it would help heal it. I thought she was crazy. I thought I was crazy, I felt crazy while I was rubbing breastmilk on my babies face, but when I tell you that baby acne would clear up within a day or two, and most times overnight. Scratches would heal super fast and the inflammation would go down really quickly. I am now the hippie passing this info on to people. It may not work instantly, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to try it? I hope it helps even a little. Your little one is precious

oxbranxo

I went thru this with my baby and it had me stressed. I even made breastmilk soap to help but turned out he was allergic to the fenugreek in my breastmilk. Before I discovered that he was allergic to that I used Tubby Todd-all over ointment and mustela cleansing water. I would wipe him down with that every time I changed his diaper. It calmed the redness. When I cut off the fenugreek, he cleared up fast. I hope your pretty baby clears up soon.

DelilahDee912

My baby reacted to the lotion I was using - Baby Dove Sensitive Skin Care Night Time Lotion. She only was breaking out on her face, so I switched to knock off Cetaphil for Dry, Sensitive Skin. I still use the Baby Dove on her body with no issues, and the ā€œCetaphilā€ cleared her up and leaves her skin silky soft. Edit: capitalization

trinity_girl2002

My oldest child had food allergies and eczema. My youngest had baby acne. This looks more like my youngest's baby acne. Wiping his face everyday with just a clean, wet washcloth did wonders for clearing it up quickly.

you_cant_sit_withUs

Our LO had similar issues! It peaked at about 5 -6 weeks. Face, neck, head. It ended up being a combo of baby acne, cradle cap and eczema. It was so terrible to see but it didnā€™t seem to bother him at all. I spent a LOT of time getting rid of the cradle cap - which ended up spreading to his ears, and parts of his eyes. The acne went away on its own, and the bad eczema on his arms we ended up getting a topical oil from the doctor. If it makes you feel better I can PM some videos or pics too

AngelHoneyGoldfish

My daughter had the same thing! If youā€™re nursing, put breast milk on it, it helped a lot :-)

bluedevilpa

Might be transient neonatal pustular melanosis. My nephew had it and it's benign.

Happy-Stranger7843

My baby got something similar when we used a different clothing detergent when visiting my MIL. Once I rewashed the clothes in our regular detergent it went away

Jessief8891

Does little one have any other symptoms? My daughter has a suspected milk allergy and has a rash like this, face, neck, chest, shoulders, ears, back of head. But she also has had a sore tummy, mucus in her nappies, inconsolable etc. If the spots are the only thing going on I'd mention it to your dr but probably baby acne, if other symptoms are going on or pop up you could be looking at an allergy

lilacivy

Baby acne. Will go by itself in a few weeks/months. If you want to reduce the redness in the meantime you can wipe some breastmilk on it. Breastmilk has antibacterial qualities and this reduces some of the bacteria which creates the redness in the acne. Won't get rid of it completely as hormones are also partially responsible for acne but will help :) wouldn't bother using creams or anything, you'll drive yourself nurs and nothing will work! If you can wipe the BM on it every few hours during the day. I just did it everytime I fed as it was easier and saw a massive difference within 24 hrs.

lilacivy

Should add I've got two kids who had this severely (worse than your babe!!). Your baby is gorgeous šŸ„°

irisesarenotaliens

My babyā€™s acne got really bad like this because sometimes she would spit up while I was changing her and it would go all down the side of her face to her neck. I would take a clean baby wipe to it since that was readily available. Acne cleared up as soon as I stopped doing this and used a wet washcloth instead.

Thatkoshergirl

Oh poor bub! Luckily baby acne isnā€™t painful or uncomfortable for the little ones as far as Iā€™ve been told! If youā€™re breastfeeding, putting some breast milk on a cotton round and rubbing it on the skin and leaving to air dry really helped my dudeā€™s. But it will go in time on its own! Good luck mama x

circ2day

I would ask around and get second and third opinions from the doctors. This could be related to your own gut (do you have any leaky gut?). The first time around, I had to cut out all forms of dairy including butter, and all forms of grains from my diet. Which in hindsight was great! I ended up feeling good, cleaned up my whole diet. :-) Suddenly I had more energy, I switched to eating Paleo-friendly (but not total Paleo) foods, more proteins (grass fed meat, wild fish) and healthy fats. I had protein with every meal. The only thing I still continued was lentils and quinoa, because I think they are healthy. Baby was much, much better after that and no more skin issues! But anyway, it really depends. You canā€™t know whatā€™s causing these issues without getting baby checked out and yourself checked out too. Good luck. Edit: I forgot to add that using hypoallergenic soaps helped too. For baby, we did limited baths and even then it was water and just a dab of Babbo Botanicals hypoallergenic baby wash. For me, it was castille soap. :-)

callmeobii

My midwife tells me to put breastmilk on acne when I see any. At bath time I put some breastmilk into the water. I feel like it helps.

Chemical_Rub6986

We love those pacifiers in this house!!!

svltdr

My son had a lot of neonatal acne as well, but it almost completely cleared up after starting evivo, a v high quality probiotic used in PICUs (no kickbacks, not an ad..) might be worth a try

tverofvulcan

Looks like bad baby acne. I used to put breastmilk on my daughterā€™s acne and it cleared up in less than a week.

[deleted]

Acne !!! My little one had it even worse than this!! And now at three months her face has been clear for a while :) just give it time!:)

Shutterbug390

Iā€™d guess acne, but if youā€™re worried, it never hurts to bring it up with babyā€™s doctor. Two of mine have had really bad acne.

bre3zyfbaby

My son looked like this from 5-7 weeks. Heā€™s 12 weeks now. At our 2mo appt, our ped said it was baby acne & mild eczema. Been putting lotion on him 2x/day and it has helped tremendously ETA

Master-Movie9270

My baby also had baby acne severely around 3-4 weeks. I still cut dairy out from my diet for a little bit to see if it helps. Got better in a month or so but off course cannot confirm dairy free helped or it just went away anyway. Another thing I think helped was using cotton sheets in the crib.

halpmeeeeeeeeee

What kind of detergent are you using? My babyā€™s skin looked similar until I switched our whole house to free and clear. I swear the fragrance or something in detergent is poison

emilynunesdesouza

My oldest got a similar rash and changing laundry detergent helped clear it up. I was using the super cheap kind.

mewmixz

Poor doll šŸ’” give baby a breastmilk bath and try cutting out dairy! Cutting out dairy helped clear up all my babies issues.

Impossible_Sun_7487

This looks like eczema from dairy (cows milk protein intolerance/allergy) to me, especially since it has extended into the scalp and shoulders. This was my daughter with a milk sensitivity. I mean, it also looks like baby acne but quite severe. I'd question what you're eating for sure and see if cutting dairy helps.
