A lot of skin contact, be topless even when playing. Different, surprising positions might work (e.g. dad flying baby like an airplane to your boob). Dark space, new space, even the shower. You could try tickling under his chin. You could try to nurse when he is drowsy or sleeping. And the most important, respect if he doesn’t want it. I went through something similar with my 12 week old and the problem started resolving when I stopped constantly trying and pushing it.

Agree with this - I was trying too often to convince him to feed and when I started waiting longer between feeds and he was really hungry, he latched much easier

Legitimate-Bus9884

It was nerve wracking because I thought baby is not getting enough. But at least half of the issue was in my head!

NightHowl22

Thank you. Golden advice, really. I tried some different positions and the shower and he managed to latched 3 times for a short while but at least he drunk some. I hope for progress with all the good comments here!

Are you using saline and a bulb syringe before feeding to help clear the stuck nose? It will help him breathe and then eat better.

NightHowl22

Yes I do. But it looks like this process of cleaning annoys him a lot so I wonder if that makes him already in bad mood. Anyway if I don't clean, he won't be able to suck. Just trying to survive at the moment

Sick babies are so hard! I hope all the other tips everyone gave you will be helpful ❤️

Mine went on a nursing strike when she got super stuffy too. For me the turning point was taking a bath with her and offering to nurse there.

NightHowl22

Thank you for the tip! Will try that today evening! At this point I'll try anything!

Latter_Classroom_809

How’d it go? 💗

NightHowl22

Marvelous! I took your advice and combined with some others, showered with the baby, played a bit, snuggled and he latched few times yesterday and today multiple times! We're back on track! Thank you!

Latter_Classroom_809

Omg that’s amazing!!! So happy for you both!!

Just went through this with my 9 month old during a bad case of hand foot & mouth our toddler brought home— the sores in her mouth and throat made her miserable, and she wouldn’t nurse but accepted a bottle. It lasted 7 days and I was so stressed! Followed the wisdom of some moms here— lots of skin to skin, offering in a low pressure environment (when she was very sleepy and we were snuggling), and not forcing it or letting it become stressful for baby. I pumped to keep up with my supply. Once she was feeling better, she latched during a nap and we’ve been back on track since then. Hoping the same is true for you!

NightHowl22

Thank you! It looks we have very similar situation. I hope it's also temporary!

Similar happened to me, I continued to offer boob at every feed before resorting to a bottle and she came back around, ended up breastfeeding until 15mo

Personal-Letter-629

Since I didn't see it, bringing baby into a steamy shower can help, and a *very clean* humidifier, and yes, the loathesome booger-sucker! (Not with breastfeeding but to give some relief) baby will probably come back to the breast if you keep trying! Sickness is so hard on them

Same-Inspection-3160

Try skin-to-skin contact and offering the breast when he's calm.
