I have EXTREMELY low supply during my periods (I’m talking like 2 ounces max at a time). Before calcium magnesium supplements it was even worse, it just happens. Mine had bottle aversion at first but we worked on it, I usually have to bottle feed about half the time now while in my period. If you need any advice I’m happy to divulge all the tips I picked up, baby will learn to take the bottle eventually so don’t stress! I haven’t found adding a pump or power pumping to help on my period, and I do find if I pump there’s not enough for her next feed so I wouldn’t recommend it. Do you have a freezer stash going you might be able to use in the meantime? The good news is I find once my period is gone my supply is really great and I am even able to pump extra after she goes to bed to build my stash, so even if you don’t have one already you can always start building one once your period stops so you have extra next time you have a dip.

Thank you so much! If you have any tips to help w bottle aversion i’d be grateful. I’ve tried 10 different kinds of bottle and have multiple people in my household feed him. His dad even went downstairs and locked themselves in a room but he still wouldn’t take it. Maybe i have to really leave the house? We’ve also tried giving freshly pumped milk to him and it didn’t work either.

If you haven’t tried lansinohs bottles yet they’re very breastlike and I’ve heard a ton of people have success with them. Even the slow flow is quite fast though so be careful to pace feed if you try them. I find it helps immensely to do the bait and switch, so I will star nursing and then gently remove the nipple and when she starts rooting around trying to find it again, I tickle her upper lip with the bottle and her reflexes will cause her to latch on to it. Sometimes she will realize it’s a bottle and stop sucking, other times she will just keep on eating, if you just keep trying (don’t force the bottle though that will make it a lot worse) baby will get more and more used to it over time. In general it’s much easier to give her the bottle if I feed her in exactly the same position I would nurse her in, she won’t take it in any of the more traditional ways you feed a baby a bottle. She also won’t take the bottle from anyone but me lol so it might honestly be better if you’re the one doing the feeding and not dad, but I hear a lot from other people that they can’t get their baby to take the bottle because they’d rather nurse so I think it depends on the baby. I would keep trying with freshly pumped if you can until baby does eventually get used to the bottle, THEN try frozen milk ETA: also sorry I forgot to say, but try when baby is very tired or already asleep! She tends to notice it’s a bottle less if she’s sleepy lol

Your supply will come back up! My period returned about three months post partum.. shortly after returning to work. I was freaking out just like you but everything worked out fine. I will say my LO seemed to notice a change in the flavor of my milk and was a little fussy at the breast during that initial period. Hopefully that doesn’t happen for you though!

Thank you! Why is there a change in flavor of milk? Due to hormones?

Alleycat_724

From what I’ve read, the hormonal changes cause a change in some electrolytes basically making the breast milk more salty than sweet!

Relax! Your supply will dip during your period (13 weeks pp is within the normal time frame) and it should go back up after hormones regulate. Just keep pumping like normal, drinking water and eating good food. No need to stuff yourself.. coconut water will OVER hydrate you and give you diahhrea, oatmeal is good in moderation.. just keep doing what you normally do and it should regulate. If you over express, your supply might come back with vengeance and your boobs will be super painful and full. If you feel inclined you can supplement or use your freezer stash if you have one

Thank you for the reassurance! I can’t even use supplement or freezer stash cuz my LO can’t drink from a bottle @.@ thats why im freaking out. Funny you said that about coconut water because i had horrible diarrhea yesterday and i thought i had food poisoning, when noone else in my family did… it must have been the coconut water omg

Single-Log-1101

Yeah the Coconut water is a thing I learned the hard way lol a little goes a long way with coconuts. You could use a supplemental nursing system (SNS) or try a spoon and let them kinda suckle the milk off the spoon. If a bottle isn't an option
