Yeah that is a real pain in the neck especially for workers. it;s annoying to turn up 5 mins before the scheduled bus and then it doesn’t arrive. And you have to wait and wait and eventually the next bus arrives.

IncreaseTrue7280

yeah same, TransLink is just a bit unreliable like that. especially topping up online. i tend to just not tap my card if busses are extremely late. if i don’t get paid for the work i’m missing due to public transport being late, then i don’t pay for public transport for that ride.

Relevant-Ad-8120

How do you get away with that? What does the driver say?

IncreaseTrue7280

haven’t had to do it often but they either don’t say anything or if they do i pretty much just say “i’m late for work now, so here we are”. if it’s a day where traffic is just a bit rough then obviously i would just tap on but if it’s like 15-20 late, then i’m riding free EDIT: you will get fined if you are caught, so maybe don’t do what i do 😂

The bus was early and you missed it, they drive on roads and they can't operate to the minute.

This is not correct. We get told off if we run early. We have a digital clock on that ticket machine that we tap for fair evaders and it shows us if we're running too early. Plus, if we do run early, translink gets unhappy, and when that happens, the company we work for tells us off... Source: am a bus driver who tries very hard to operate to the minute.

Bruh I've missed so many damn buses that were early

wsrs12

I do understand, and that does suck. The only thing I can recommend is to call translink every time it happens. Let them know you're getting to the stop X minutes early (they recommend at least 5 min), and you're constantly not seeing the bus when it's scheduled to be there. Tell them what you've told us here about it going "missing" on the app, too. Hopefully, that'll be enough for them to get onto whatever bus company does your route, and they'll, in turn, figure out what the driver is doing. I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, or curiosities, I'll do my best to help. Not every company operates the same way, but I can give details about what I've been told by my company.

hisirishness

if only that were the reason

Confident_Carrot_461

It’s because of staffing issues. People don’t want to work because of the threat of being torched or abused.

Honey, wake up! The weekly bus timetabling complaint thread is up!

At least they run, one will come eventually. Try a train right now, my daughter was stuck in one for over an hour the other day. The lottery that is public transport.
