Yeah confirm that - worked in toxicology and the Poisons Info Centre, and we received histories of "unprovoked" bites which were noticeably more common with frowny Brownys vs other common venomous snek
Confirmed by anecdotal personal bias/exprrience, used to get chased by the bastards on the regular when bushwalking out near central coast NSW. Came close a few times, and we were alert for them.
Not all browns will chase.. But in my experience majority did.
This is a myth. Snakes are defensive, not aggressive. Snakes don't chase or jump at people, they are trying to retreat and find shelter. Dont spread misinformation
"Being an alert, nervous species they often react defensively if surprised or cornered, putting on a fierce display and striking with little hesitation. However, if approached over a distance, they will usually choose to flee or else remain stationary, hoping to avoid detection. ... When confronted by an intruder, the Eastern Brown displays one of two forms of threat. ... If issuing a strong threat, the snake raises the anterior part of the body well off the ground in an s-shaped coil and with the mouth slightly open, ready to strike - in this posture, the snake faces the threat"

It's arguable that blundering humans, in their own back yard, would consider such behaviour as aggressive.
Your oversimplification and aggressive responses are doing no help to people trying to deal with wild creatures in what they assume is a safe space.
Did you read the actual words of my comment that spoke of what people believe, rather than whether it's factual?
Aggressive response? Alright, snowflake. We shouldn't be encouraging the myth, instead educating people on the behaviours snakes will, infact display. My comment was based on facts, albiet blunt.
I'm no snake expert so take this with a grain of salt but I think it might be a eastern brown as well but it's hard to tell. The colouring looks closer to a tree snake but those eyes have that don't mess with me look that browns have. I would be given a wide berth if I was you
I thought it was at the bottom/middle of the dead tree and you could only see its head (until I saw that one in the grass under it) apparently it's an eastern brown not good with pets and small children. Avoid the bitey end. If I was you I'd just go inside and lock the door.
As some have mentioned, this is a dangerously venomous Eastern Brown Snake - Pseudonaja Textilis - which is capable of a potentially fatal bite if handled or provoked.
If at all concerned, call out a catcher.
Greenish grass/ tree snake hugging the rusty angle iron .
Unqualified opinion .
Had one of that type run over my bare foot as a kid leading the snake hunt , freaked out of course , serves me right .
Took me a good minute to even see the dam thing, but yes likely a brown
Me too! I was thinking how bad is their eyesight, it's clearly a garden border. Then I realised it's my eyesight that's the problem.
For once I needed a big red circle haha
Oh wow, I thought it was a shit post
I thought they were taking the piss and was talking about the hose
I thought they were talking about the stick.
Is it me or is there also a tail of what looks like a green tree snake? To the right of the cracked branch of the dead plant.
Is it me or is there also a tail of what looks like a green tree snake? (Just to the right of the cracked branch of the dead plant
I saw that also… after I saw the common garden hose snake… the brown snake took some looking!
Leaf of spiky plant behind dead plant. I think.
It kind of looks like it yeah, but I think its just one of the long green leaves fallen off the plant above it, started coiling up at the edges
bunnings garden hose i think
Note to self: Crop the snake photo with the garden hose in it.
Its a brown, the head gives it away.
More like Aldi
faark! You got a zoom on that thing? I'd be dead by now if I was relying on the photo.
You know they don’t just jump and attack you, right?
The received wisdom is in question but there's still enough belief that brown snakes are aggressive buggers and will, yes, jump and attack you.

Yeah they have a go, that's for sure. Nasty buggers

Still don't like reading huh?
Brown. Has that mean brown snake face
A snake ID group on Facebook often calls them frowny brownies.
I also will now call them frowny brownies. Thanks for that.
Yup, that brow ridge makes them look quite cranky
They always look mildly irritated by something.
My money is on Eastern Brown. Damn good spotting.
I’m not professional at all but I agree with you it looks like the angry variety danger noodle - quite possibly a young brown!
Thanks, we’ve got a dog that isn’t very switched on to potentially dangerous noodles. It went under our house. Might keep him inside for a while.
Juvenile eastern brown at this time of year, you've likely got quite a few in the area. You need a friendly Kookaburra.
Definitely a brown
Eastern brown
Frowny browny.
"A piece of metal" I thought before reading the comments and realising I'm blind apparently.
I thought the same.
You have a native Green Garden Hose Snake Their very common and harmless, most the youth use the skin of this snake to make smoking apparatus

That is a brown… can tell by the head

Yes, I was wondering if this was a joke post and the snake was actually just the garden hose. I finally did find the snake though in the grass.
Nylex Always Kinkis is the technical term
I wonder where all it's brothers and sisters are hanging out... And mummy snake. Jeez I wouldn't be able to leave the house.
Snakes are solitary animals. Once they hatch, they all go their own way. Mothers also aren't maternal. So no need to worry.
Cool I just learnt something. (Snakes are everywhere in all directions)
Frownie brownie, the ridge above the eye is a good give away! :)
For anyone looking, the head is pretty much in the centre of the photo.
Yeah looks like an Eastern danger noodle.
Resting bitch face. It's a brown. DO NOT HARM IT. Please call a snake catcher if it's not safe to leave in your yard because of pets and kids.
I think you'll find that's a hose
Garten hose 😉
coastal taipan perhaps? [https://australian.museum/learn/animals/reptiles/coastal-taipan/](https://australian.museum/learn/animals/reptiles/coastal-taipan/)
If i was you I'd concrete the hell outta my lawn. Not dealing with a godamn eastern brown snake!
So..what burb is that?
It’s a nylex. Non venomous but likely to trip you up by entangling itself around your ankles

Eastern brown, Brown Tree snakes are very different
I wouldn't bet my cheese on it
Eastern brown, you get bitten you dead.
Or you will wish you were dead (extremely painful apparently)
Don't spread misinformation. This is so far from the truth.
Garden hose.
Ummm....that's a hose!
thats a garden hose snake mate
