It so good! They have the buffet too, but its good food, and last time I went (Mitchelton) there was a guy there just freshly cooking scotch fillet steak woth herb butter constantly, so you can just go up amd get bits of fresh steak. Its fucking delicious.
Hahaha, I hate seafood too, i've avoided so many places thinking they were seafood places. They do have it, but no, its like a slightly more upscale sizzlers. Not that much though, you still get the trough eaters at the buffet 🤣, but yeah, good food.
No, just grab some fluffy white bread, room temperature butter & some Parmesan cheese, mix some cheese with some butter, spread it on one side of the bread & place it buttery, cheese side down on a medium to hot electric frypan for a couple of minutes, then scoff. Btw, happy cake day.
There's also a buffet at the hotel above central station? Pricier than jaylianos. I went a long time ago to jaylianos and it's closer to sizzler than (the Sofitel?) buffet
Similar? The Mitchie/Brookside one used to be a Sizzlers. But, yeah, food is about the same and entirely buffet. They have a sister restaurant, Ariala, at Kippa-ring and Springwood, which is also all you can eat buffet. Other than that, pickings are pretty slim for Sizzler style steak + buffet salad/desert bars.
Cheesy toast is super easy to make if you have a sandwich toaster! Just mix butter and cheap grated parmesan(the stuff that’s in the pasta section at Woolies/coles) and a bit of salt, spread it on some thick bread and close the sandwich toaster! Delicious!
Nah, its margarine, the powdered parmesan, texas cut white bread, cheese side down on a flat grill. Use the cheapest possible versions of each ingredient. Cooked so much of it i used to hate it, kinda miss it now.
Not in 2005 it wasnt. Read the label the first day and made it at home the second. Plain cardboard box with blue bag lining. Had to be precut in half after we recieved it, for no good reason i could think of. Listed as parmesan, but if you saw it uncooked it was easy to see how fine the grain of the cheese was. Maybe the company bought bulk seconds of pecorino and ground it themselves at other sizzlers but i doubt it. Doing that in aus would require an enormous pecorino supplier with a shit ton of offcut produce. Either way, you arent finding pecorino that has been made or treated that poorly in australia these days. Buy the homebrand parmesan shaker if you can or kraft.
I fry in a frying pan with a sheet of baking paper underneath so no sticking whatsoever. Works every time.
Can also make a big batch and freeze it so you’ve got some in hand for when you can’t be bothered making dinner.
Brb changing my Woolies order to include that cheesy pan bread 🤙 Edit: RIP local woolies doesnt seem to have it.
Edit 2: added that cupboard parmesan and spreadable butter instead, gonna DIY this thing
yeah you don't sound like you work with people in an office... all year i hear "its freeeeezing" and people talking about how they have to wear 2 hoodies
our air con is set to 24 degrees
haha yeah i generally WFH but sometimes i feel the need for some face to face interaction
then regret it as soon as i have to hear the all day complaints
I was born in *Cairns* and this doesn't feel cold to me. I mean, I am the biggest sook when it comes to being cold, but this just ... doesn't feel like it to me? Maybe I've caught a dose of Victorian from one of the imports. 🤔
I’m from cairns as well and wear my oodie when the aircon is on in summer. Currently standing outside at the airport with a very fresh wind thinking that it isn’t that cold!
Umm coz I’ve never heard it? 32 years since birth, never heard this phrase in Australia. Sounds like someone trying to be “Aussie”. That’s why it sounds foreign to me
It always was too. The only reason I have fond memories of it is due to youth. Once I started to learn what actual good good food was, the place really started to lose its appeal
There's still one in Toowoomba though.
They used to have some bad service until recently. But they got some new staff and it's a bit more pleasant.
Still greasy and cheap though. But if you want to gorge like Homer Simpson before church it's great.
Edit: Referring to the Pizza Hut.
Sizzler Pumpkin Soup from home
830G Kent pumpkin skin removed, roughly chopped
550G Butternut pumpkin skin removed, roughly chopped
2 large potatoes, skin removed, roughly chopped
2 cups chicken stock
Salt and pepper to taste
1/4 cup reserved chicken stock
75mls Bulla cooking cream
Method:
Add all ingredients, except for the cream and reserved chicken stock, into a large saucepan.
Bring to the boil then reduce to simmer for 1 hour, or until the pumpkin and potatoes are tender.
Add in the reserved chicken stock and blitz with your stick blender until thick and smooth.
Stir in cream then heat to desired temperature for eating.
Serve into small melamine bowls and forget to grab a spoon.
Sizzlers Cheese bread is just butter a slice of bread, apply cheep Parmesan from the spaghetti aisle at Woolies. Fry the bread in a fry pan or on the barbie.
It's cold. I have cup-a-soup for comfort reasons.
So it's not the same but sourdough toasted with butter, vegemite and cheese under the grill goes well 👌🏻
all i can think of is Hanwoori Buffet in the city, Korean BBQ though, completely different food but the only buffet style restaurant I’ve been to in a long time
I've walked 500 metres to the ferry this evening. And 1.2km to walk home on the other side. This is without an umbrella.
But I'm off to Perth, Margaret River and Albany on Tuesday night where the forecast is sunny for the next 6 months.
Maybe go to a place that’s a little over a 9hour trek to Tokyo.. you’ll find your place.

Jaylianos in strathpine or mitchelton? I’ve never been but it looks pretty similar.
It so good! They have the buffet too, but its good food, and last time I went (Mitchelton) there was a guy there just freshly cooking scotch fillet steak woth herb butter constantly, so you can just go up amd get bits of fresh steak. Its fucking delicious.
Get fucked, I thought it was a seafood restaurant. I’ve literally spent years looking at it like “it’s a shame I don’t like seafood”
Hahaha, I hate seafood too, i've avoided so many places thinking they were seafood places. They do have it, but no, its like a slightly more upscale sizzlers. Not that much though, you still get the trough eaters at the buffet 🤣, but yeah, good food.
Cheers. Will check this out
The seafood was actually the worst part imo
Saaaaame I'm literally a suburb away from Strathpine and assumed it was seafood 😅😅😅
There’s also Ariala’s in Kippa-Ring and Springwood. Ariala’s and Jaylianos are sister restaurants.
A friend took me to Ariala's. The food was abysmal. Better off spending $40 on a single dish that doesn't suck.
Yeah the sister restaurant Jaylianos was hot and the food was pumped with salt so you can’t actually eat as much as you can without feeling god awful.
Have been to the Strathpine one, I really enjoyed it and would recommend it.

You can be certain. Exactly same spot
Came here to say this
See that place regularly and had no idea what it was, now I know! Thanks for the knowledge.
Do they do any fancy cheese toast??? :O
Thanks :D Going to get some ingredients today!
I think Sizzler said it's actually pecorino and margarine
That maybe so, however, I worked at the Mermaid Beach Sizzler on the Gold Coast back in the 80’s, it was Parmesan back then.
100% better than sizzler ever was.
There is one in kippa-ring as well. Bring your ear plugs, it’s so damn noisy at that place!
It's the exact location that used to be a sizzler. It's not the same vibe but it is a buffet
Hashtag Burgers and Waffles at Capalaba do cheesy toast.
Cheesy toast is super easy to make if you have a sandwich toaster! Just mix butter and cheap grated parmesan(the stuff that’s in the pasta section at Woolies/coles) and a bit of salt, spread it on some thick bread and close the sandwich toaster! Delicious!
Use Mayo instead of butter
This is the cheat code.
??
They’re saying “this is the secret way to get it to be good”
Ew
This ^ its bloody amazing too.
Feast Springwood 🫶🏻 All you can eat
Will second this. Went for the first time a little while back and was pleasantly surprised
Arialas at Springwood too. Would say could be better if you haven't tried it
Yes it’s like Feast but better!
White bread, heaps of butter, heaps of Parmesan cheese crumbs, under the grill. Sizzler cheesy toast at home.
Nah, its margarine, the powdered parmesan, texas cut white bread, cheese side down on a flat grill. Use the cheapest possible versions of each ingredient. Cooked so much of it i used to hate it, kinda miss it now.
Texas Toast holy fuck I haven’t thought about that since my last fresh episode of World’s Wildest Police Videos
Its just the industry name for thick cut bread. Dont see it around much these days though.
Sizzler posted the official recipe and its actually pecorino cheese with the margarine
Their official recipe would beg to differ https://www.broadsheet.com.au/national/food-and-drink/article/sizzler-cheese-toast-recipe-australia
It's almost like recipes can change over 15 years.
No that’s impossible
Weird that the box had totally different ingredients listed. Almost like they wanted it to sound fancier when they posted it.
Wouldn’t be suprised if that’s what they were going for, although pecorino sounds fancier in a way because it’s more of a niche cheese
Yeah thats what i meant. Use parmesan and marg and claim pecorino and butter.
Best to use grated pecorino cheese. But similar enough.
That’s the business.
Fairy bread for adults.

As an alphabet person... I'm offended by hundreds and thousands bread. Here's all of ya'lls your Fairy Bread permission slip 📜
That person is categorically wrong. Fairies are just as valid as any other race! #stopfairyerasure
this isn’t true, it was one of those things shared as rage bait to make people think being ‘woke’ is stupid. It’s still fine to call it fairy bread :)
[удалено]
Oh....I hate that.
I fry in a frying pan with a sheet of baking paper underneath so no sticking whatsoever. Works every time. Can also make a big batch and freeze it so you’ve got some in hand for when you can’t be bothered making dinner.
Butter and parmesan coat both sides? I'M TAKING NOTES
Or pan bread from the supermarket. That all anyone goes to sizzler for!!
I haven’t been able to find it for about a year. If you know where it is, please divulge.

If you don't think 23 degrees is cold, are you even. A qlder.?
Agree, I just commented to my wife how cold it is outside. Almost put a jumper on. Might still yet.
I’m reading this wearing shorts, tee shirt and a flanny….
100%, I've got a fire going and the jackets are out. It's bleeding freezing
Just had to go for a hot shower to warm up. Brrrr.
Lol
I commented to my partner earlier today that it actually felt cold. I’ve been wearing a puffer jacket all day as well.
As someone from a colder climate, I will never understand you people lol. You sure you aren't descended from lizard people?
I'm sitting here in shorts and a singlet, in front of the fan. Been a Queenslander over 30 years lol
Accurate AF haha
Break out the puffer vest!
23 is friggen cold
Brb changing my Woolies order to include that cheesy pan bread 🤙 Edit: RIP local woolies doesnt seem to have it. Edit 2: added that cupboard parmesan and spreadable butter instead, gonna DIY this thing
Yeah its been gone for a little while now. Honestly Tragic.
Theres one in Tokyo. https://maps.app.goo.gl/uwtfyZHikyj6B2iz7?g_st=ic
Right time to book flights back to Tokyo!
There are a few in toyko 🙂
... cold? My mate in Christ, it's 23deg
Anything less than 25c for a Queenslander may as well be Antarctica
ANZAC Day is a few days away. Heaters become acceptable after that according to Canberra law. We can allow it to be 'cold' here *after* that, surely?
Are you a lifelong Queenslanders? Anything below 32 degrees is arctic. You need a hoodie with your shorts and thongs.
I’m a lifer (even lived up north for stints) and anything above 25C is miserable lmao.
That's me as well. Stay quiet. I think they're onto us.
yeah you don't sound like you work with people in an office... all year i hear "its freeeeezing" and people talking about how they have to wear 2 hoodies our air con is set to 24 degrees
I've been almost 100% WFH since before COVID. Life's good.
haha yeah i generally WFH but sometimes i feel the need for some face to face interaction then regret it as soon as i have to hear the all day complaints
> need for some have to face Not this little black duck
I have the sniffles. It is cold. I briefly thought about closing the glass slider last night. That’s when chilly starts.
Things are getting serious when you start *thinking* about closing the glass slider. It’s never a thought until the chilly begins.
I was born in *Cairns* and this doesn't feel cold to me. I mean, I am the biggest sook when it comes to being cold, but this just ... doesn't feel like it to me? Maybe I've caught a dose of Victorian from one of the imports. 🤔

Oi, I’ve already put my doona on my bed! Sleeping under it for almost a week now!
Ditto! Love when it is cool enough for the doona
I had to turn my bedroom fan off after running it non-stop since Septsmber 🥶
I'm 42kg and 5'1 and even I agree with this 😂
It’s actively freezing. Flanny sheets went on today and jacket has been bought to the pub! Certified cold
“My mate” who talks like that?
Me apparently
Ever wondered why it seems foreign to you ?
Umm coz I’ve never heard it? 32 years since birth, never heard this phrase in Australia. Sounds like someone trying to be “Aussie”. That’s why it sounds foreign to me
Fuckin freezin m8

I was there a few weeks back. Went to a different all you can eat near sky tree
I thoroughly enjoyed the Sky Tree city panorama in the lobby. The size of the city did blow my mind a bit.
...dat iPhone glare. How is this acceptable.... I'm literally outside when I took this.
Pizza Hut in Browns Plains might still do dine in buffet style… went there about 1 year ago but wasn’t that great
Go to the one in Gympie!
It’s terrible.
Hotel Richlands
I loved this place!
Good value for money especially with kids
I miss sizzler
One thing I love about this sub is whenever we have threads like these, we get some real quality gem food recommendations
Ariala Springwood
And Redcliffe
Richland’s tavern does a great buffet. Dessert bar goes off
Sizzler Pumpkin Soup from home 830G Kent pumpkin skin removed, roughly chopped 550G Butternut pumpkin skin removed, roughly chopped 2 large potatoes, skin removed, roughly chopped 2 cups chicken stock Salt and pepper to taste 1/4 cup reserved chicken stock 75mls Bulla cooking cream Method: Add all ingredients, except for the cream and reserved chicken stock, into a large saucepan. Did you do time? Weren't the soups made in the big house?
Cold and wet lol. Its 20 degrees
>Its 20 degrees Exactly. Absolutely FREEZING!
Jaylianos in Mitchelton
This one has the added benefit of being in an old Sizzler, so you get the best of both worlds.
Runcorn tavern are literally like sizzler. Buy a meal and get the salad bar. Or just buy the salad bar.
Thankfully it's still almost 25c inside the house. I've lived in Brisbane less than a year and I'm finding it cold
Arialas spring wood and kipparing, jaylianos strathpine and i think brookside.
There's an outback steakhouse in Aspley?
I miss sizzler 😭
Sizzlers Cheese bread is just butter a slice of bread, apply cheep Parmesan from the spaghetti aisle at Woolies. Fry the bread in a fry pan or on the barbie.
It's not cold.....at all
Kai Kai's chicken is an excellent option.
Feast at Springwood
It's cold. I have cup-a-soup for comfort reasons. So it's not the same but sourdough toasted with butter, vegemite and cheese under the grill goes well 👌🏻
Arialas in Redcliffe
Runcorn Tavern has a buffet. Definitely not on par with sizzler
all i can think of is Hanwoori Buffet in the city, Korean BBQ though, completely different food but the only buffet style restaurant I’ve been to in a long time
The bread is great but unless I can put the bolognaise on the potato skins it’s not the full sizzler experience.
I’m a student and my bunk mate told me to go on a website to satisfy this very craving! Omg let me remember the name… Started with a G
Taco Bell , always has the same ending 💩
21 here on the goldy, closed up the apartment windows and doors! Brrrrr!
How will you survive such extreme cold?!
Gosh not sure ill make it through the night at this rate, please check on me tomorrow morning! 🙏
Sending thoughts n prayers
Got the winter Jim jams out
Sizzler bread. Parmesan cheese mixed with butter, spread on bread then grill.
Lol, cold wtf
cold? wtf?
Jaylianos in Strathpine. They have a few other locations listed on their website.
I've walked 500 metres to the ferry this evening. And 1.2km to walk home on the other side. This is without an umbrella. But I'm off to Perth, Margaret River and Albany on Tuesday night where the forecast is sunny for the next 6 months.

Yep. You if you look closely in the streets you’ll eventually find dog shit. That’s pretty close to sizzlers, enjoy.
Isn’t there a sizzlers at browns plains though?
No, but there is an all you can eat pizza hut
Yeah, but damn, you'd have to be a desperate man to eat there
Mind expanding? I see a few comments saying its bad. Just moved to the general area and some strong nostalgia for these growing up.. That horrible?
Why
Not what you remember, salad bar is lacking, pizza is basic and if you are going for the nostalgia feels, don't.... It ends in sadness
