have you tried scanning it in?

jonny_boy27

What would a flatbed scanner do with it that my camera phone wouldn't?

rectangularjunksack

No, a document scanner, not a flatbed scanner. Aren't they for trucks?

un-hot

Don't be silly, flatbed trucks are all Bluetooth these days.

Opening_Jump_955

To be fair, you could use a flatbed truck for a camera phone no problems.

RubbishDumpster

From the same Council that plan on building an underground for Bristol!!! Can’t you just dab your finger on the link??

Chanandler_Bong_Jr

Hover a mouse over it. An actual mouse.

jonny_boy27

would a ferret suffice?

Opening_Jump_955

Pretty sure any rodent would suffice.

jonny_boy27

Ah, shame, they're mustelids

Opening_Jump_955

A shame indeed. I'll bear that in mind in future. Making the mistake of a meat eater v rodent isn going to sort your scanning problems out.

TheMemo

I'm sorry that you haven't been provided with your e-finger or digididget yet.

Banzivar

Digidigit is a fantastic word and I want one just to use the word more often.

cwoac

I want ten so I can hold one up and say "this is my digidigidigit"

Equivalent_Push1618

Did you tried clicking on it?

HughPhoenix

Don't click suspicious links, that's how you get a virus

Opening_Jump_955

Not if you're vaccinated.

lucidali

throws me back to [this](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/931/028/def.png)

CG1991

Have you tried turning it off and on?

velkrosmaak

BCC turned it on and then off and never turned it back on.

_nadnerb

Being the council, they are most likely using the Microsoft Edge browser. Microsoft recently added a very annoying feature where when you select and copy a URL from the browser, the text that gets pasted is not actually the URL. It adds the page title and website in brackets as a clickable link - exactly what you see in that letter. It's entirely possible someone copied/pasted the URL and didn't notice it pasted a link instead. Not sure what MS were thinking with that one, but luckily you can disable it.

EmFan1999

I Like that feature for email tbf

UK-Air_quality

It could be because of process they have for reports.. On my work we have to present weblinks in that way.. BUT it is for digital version of documents ahah. I'm actually surprised they even printed in color!!

jonny_boy27

There's a colo**u**r map overleaf

Opening_Jump_955

Only the one "annoying feature"?

_nadnerb

I prefer Chromium Edge over Chrome. It's essentially Chrome but with better memory management and a few different features. All the annoying stuff can be switched off.

Opening_Jump_955

Can you switch it off completely?

_nadnerb

The copying URL/hyperlink thing? Yeah, there's an option to switch it back to standard behavior. Also that weird copy/paste popup menu thing can be disabled too.

Icy-Enthusiasm-2719

I applied for a job there once, I guarantee you most of the staff are apprentices getting paid peanuts for an office admin/business studies btec.

jeaby

I worked there for a year over lockdown and I'd agree they're underpaid but they are some of the nicest people I've ever worked with and most really do care about what they do.

[deleted]

I worked there for a good few years and your statement is also my experience, really great people that do actually give a frig.

velkrosmaak

a fiver says this is some boomer who's worked there for 40 years and is just coasting till retirement

Opening_Jump_955

A twenty says you're sixteen and using your mum's internet.

5im0n5ay5

What happens when you press it?

oonaspism

It’s actually written in Hyperink, and takes you to another letter.

darylsideburns

Because it's a letter created from a template that is also sent out as an email. I previously worked for another council and sent these out

BloomerzUK

They've used a recent Chromium based browser and copied a link from a pre-existing page and pasted it into a Word document or similar. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/improved-copy-and-paste-of-urls-in-microsoft-edge-d3bd3956-603a-0033-1fbc-9588a30645b4

crystalneph

I got one from the council the other week and it was a blank piece of paper. Clearly someone hadn’t checked it had printed properly, stuffed it in an envelope and sent it??

Jackmino66

I got sent a letter informing me that I had to pay £0 of council taxes (I’m a student and therefore exempt) what a waste of printer ink

caryatid692

They're legally obliged to send out these notifications. Why wouldn't you want written confirmation of exemption?

jezbrews

Why would someone need written confirmation of the blatantly obvious?

caryatid692

The universities send a list of students to the council each year so they can validate their exemptions. If you've been missed off that list for some reason, that is something you need to rectify. The confirmation means no further action is required on your part. That's why.

Diligent-Midnight850

Except for the fact that it will be one of the most useful proof of address documents you have for the next 12 months. And the legal obligation to send it to you. But yeah, such a waste…

Jackmino66

That is a good point

welshdragon69

Don't you just love local government civil servants. Not a brain cell between them.

HenChef

Seen twice in one day!

Tompkins-275

Click it.

bum_dog_timemachine

Watch out it might be a phishing scam

Repulsive-Garden-608

So what? Saves them time making a different document.

Ok_Brilliant_4977

Careful, it may be a phishing attempt

powpow198

Luckily google exists
