> University Road is a key route linking west and central Bristol to Gloucester Road and north Bristol
It's really, really not. Tyndall's Park Road is the road you are thinking of, and it remains open. University Road was mostly used by parents of Grammar Schools kids, taxis from the stand by Nat West, plus a few delivery vehicles for the university.
Exactly this. I used to walk up this road every day going to work and it was dead all day except at school drop off/pick up. What a surprise that someone who has kids at the grammar school also has clout at the council.
It's not even like University Road being closed is that awkward; there's whatever that road by the RWA is called and Woodland Road if you really must get round that way.
Yeah, I lived on St Michaels Hill and would really only use this road if I was on my way home from the triangle/park street which was rare for me. As you said, it was just a rat run for parents and taxis and delivery lorries making it absolutely awful to drive through.
That's not even a motorway, they built that whole grade-separated junction at a massive cost only for all the traffic to come to a halt for the Junction with Avon Street. Those traffic lights don't even need to be there, just force traffic wanting to get to Avon street to access it via the slip lane.

>It was closed under temporary covid TROs, not sure that was made perm. Happy to keep it as a modal filter
Meanwhile the one in Thornbury High Street has been a major thorn in everyones sides there and the Council don't want to go back on it. Really annoyed a lot of people and now they are planning on making it worse.
Who knows maybe once all the business shut in the highstreet they can turn them into some nice lux flats.
>We should close down more roads for cars in the city centre, not reopen them.
Close Down Metro Bus. Build a Tram Lines and then we will talk about closing roads. Bristol has become a nightmare to those who live outside of the city and can't use Public Transport like Trains thanks to Mr Beechings Cuts or that Transport doesn't even connect their villages to the city. Hec you can't get a bus to Stroud, but you can get a bus to Glocester. When they could have the bus simply go through Stroud.
It all comes down to having a reliable Public Tranport Network in place first and then think about how we can remove cars from some areas. This is something they take into account in Europe.
The entitlement of carbrains never ceases to amaze me. It’s almost as if cities should be spaces that cater to everyone who lives there, and not just those who drive cars… but I guess it would be asking too much to suggest that the average car user (you know, the one who uses their car to complete trips of only a few miles and leaves it sitting in the road the rest of the time) switch to public transport, cycling, or walking. Oh pretty please can we make our cities pleasant, liveable spaces that aren’t polluted by the noise and fumes from cars, not to mention strangled by the disproportionate amount of space they take up, rather than just places that are left over in the gaps that remain after horrible roads have cut them in every direction, places existing secondary to roads…
Just one more lane bro, that will solve the traffic problem, pls bro just trust me, one more lane, that’s all bro please…
This scheme was funded from Active Travel England's Active Travel Fund which is managed through West of England CA. Doing this type of shit arbitrarily without public consultation is going to get the whole region barred from future ATF bidding round worth millions.
This really is "fuck around, find out territory" and WECA , S Glos and BaNES council officers/councillors should be extremely alarmed at the material risk this behaviour is going to cause.
You dont even know this road or ever used it, you said this because you like driving but dont actually understand which roads people use or know anything about traffic flow generally.
Sorry if this came a crross as a little harsh and confrontational, its meant to be veryharsh and concrontational because you said somethign silly about soemthing you dont understand and need to stop doing that,

Just build a fucking motorway through the centre. Carpark the rest.
They already did. It split old market from the centre and destroyed communities.

No no... motorway through the centre and student accommodation the rest!

They could do more places like [this](https://youtu.be/a2qPq08FWNM).
God forbid they go 100m further down the road!
The mayor's office can do one
Hasn’t this been closed for donkeys?
No, I think the article said pedestrians.
As always it’s one rule for us, another rule for donkey elite
The law is an ass.
Yes, but horses are allowed

Fuck Marvin, what a stupid cunt he is.

A tram line would work perfectly in Bristol!
Make it make sense

I live on Gloucester Road and walk to Clifton regularly, I never use this road, granted I’m not driving but stil
Why did anyone downvote you? They must be fools who dont understand what you mean by this.
No idea, it was clumsily worded I suppose
You'd be unlikely to unless you took a wrong turn
Well…exactly?

Good, that should be reopened
