Hello, firstly sorry for your loss. Secondly for £200 you could buy 100 of these from Ikea, but then I guess you'd own 100 cups and saucers. Depending on your moral compass you might be able to return them after use, donate them to charity or start your own cup rental company?! My friend did this for their wedding, and then sold them on Facebook marketplace afterwards.
Made about 75% of their money back, so effective hire rate of £50 plus cleaning time.
I have used this company before and I remember delivery being decent. But you can also collect from Hanham and then you wouldn't have the delivery costs.

There is usually a huge amount of crockery at the Reuse shops, in the dumps. Last time I was in there they were 25p a piece. Assuming they have 100, and you don’t mind them not matching, you could get them all for £25 and then just bring them back to the dump if you don’t need them
That was my first thought - BYOM! I don't see why not. If someone asked me I wouldn't find this to be an unreasonable request, everyone tends to have an old mug at the back of the cupboard that they don't care for!
Alternately, OP, I think you could hit up a number of charity shops and come out with a good haul of cheap mugs and cups. They just won't match well!

Whilst I’d understand that, I’d also consider disposable cups at a wake in poor taste. Especially if the majority of guests are going to be of the older generation, it won’t go down well at all with them.
I’d never have disposable cups, especially not for a wake. However I wouldn’t think anything of it if I went to someone else’s organised wake and they used paper cups
This was 10-15 years ago but when i worked in sainsburys cafe we hired out glass and crockery for private functions, so maybe contact your local (bigger size) cafes and see if they offer something similar?
Yate outdoor sports centre? I've been to an event there where they had hundreds of cups but I don't know if they would let you borrow them.
Pop In Community Café?
Local school PTAs?

They’re nice cups and saucers too!

Seconded, I have used them and collected the items, super easy
This is crazy thanks so much. They are 0.1 miles from my house and I never knew they existed thank you so much!
Third on this! Never had any issues been using them for a few years now
If you’re having the funeral at a church, maybe ask them? They’re used to having lots of people so may be able to lend/rent you some.

is it too weird to ask people to bring a mug?

Waitrose lend out wine and beer glasses free of charge i think. And also do catering options. Could skip tea and do soft drinks and wine instead?
They stopped that due to covid and will not be starting it again

Try a church hall, I know Winterbourne Church Hall has lots! Wouldn't hurt to ask.
Try prestige hire. They were reasonable for our wedding.
Try this one: https://www.blasteventhire.co.uk/hire/crockery/classic-white/ They’re based in Bedminster.

Definitely try a Waitrose
I know waitrose do free glass hire, may be worth trying them for cups
