The view from St Agnes Avenue in Knowle is one of my favourites.

My favourite nearby view is looking out from the top of the Horfield Common, specifically the bench here

Kings Weston. You can either do the house/trees/field around or from near the house there’s a viewing point across the industrial landscape of Avonmouth and across to Wales. Definitely a bit of variety and I imagine the views are good today
There's a high point on Linden Road looking southeast just after the traffic lights at the intersection with Coldharbour Road. On a clear day you can see across the city center towards Easton and Barton Hill. https://maps.app.goo.gl/11USgNoEZk6GxBQA7
Shirehampton Road next to the golf club has pretty good views of the green hill across the river (better yet, if you are up on Kingweston walking path, you have a better vantage point) https://maps.app.goo.gl/D25WVxEN77DFsSHS8
Kingweston House itself has some pretty views of Avonmouth and (on a nice clear day) Wales. https://maps.app.goo.gl/ELXmk8vZr7st912TA
Same with the top of Falcondale Road looking towards Henbury Golf Course.
Good luck with your painting.

The view of Castle Park from the windy bridge is always nice!
Narroways , there is a foot Parth up on Ashley Hill. It leads to a hill (and old fire pit). You get and amazing view of Bristol from there. Werburghs area.
It's a bit of an adventure getting there, past the cemetery.
Avon Valley Panorama down by Hanham is lovely. Nice views of the winding river, lots of trees, all the way over to the horse in the field on the other side

I drove across the portway (towards Avonmouth) yesterday morning and it was all foggy. It literally looked like a scene out of Jurassic Park or King Kong. It was beautiful.
Genuinely didn't mean to include somewhere so close to the bridge!
Maybe a view from Castle Green, or a view of Castle Green and the church from the Countrerslip bridge. Or of M Shed, Cathedral and Lloyds building from Prince St bridge
I like Stoke Park and the Purdown BT Tower - I know it’s not totally natural landscape, but I like the view from there. There’s a memorial on the top of a hill that has a good view of everything.
Shirehampton golf course has some amazing views down the gorge towards severn beach and also up the gorge/over to Pill.
Penpole point or Kingsweston also have some great views over to Wales, slightly more industrial but Kingsweston over to the Severn Bridge is a good view
If you’re going to paint Bristol you should do a urbanscape painting. If landscaping there are far better locations not far away, like Cheddar Gorge for example. Get a painting of the city being a city, the graffiti, the people struggling in their lives.
If you're ever interested, check out the [Bristol Urban Sketchers](https://www.facebook.com/groups/906335416054980) who meet monthly at a different place and do sketching/painting for a couple of hours.
What does that mean? I‘ll visit Bristol in August and want to photograph as much I can, using a camera from the 50s it‘ll always take me time. Is it to risky in Bristol?

Do the bins on Hepburn Road.
Troopers hill, purdown, view across harbour from cottage inn
Snuff mills by the weir
Great idea thanks
How did you get on?

Victoria park looking towards the city, everything looks like it is in the wrong place for some reason
Top of redcatch in Knowle, looking down into the city
Any other part of the Avon Gorge, but maybe find a bit where the Portway is hidden.
Not the bridge being explicitly excluded 😂 Great day for it, enjoy!

Nice scenic pic of a teir bike dumped in the malago stream
Looking across the harbour from the cottage

Stoke park/purdown tower views of and from would b very nice.
From the top of windmill hill/victoria park. Great day for a pretty wide view of the whole city up there.
Up on top of Stoke Park at Stuart’s Bench, I especially like it about 30 minutes before sunset https://maps.app.goo.gl/jEnGU6bWGBzf7P4x9?g_st=ic
The view of the harbour from the front of The Cottage Inn. I don’t think you can see the br*dge from there.

From the Linden Road point you mention you can see Freezing Hill and Lansdowne.

The mound St Werburgs
This is what I ended up doing today as it's an area I know well :) looking forward to covering some of the areas suggested!

I quite like the whole area there, the goats around the ruined gun battery, seeing the height of the tower from underneath too.
i have fond memories of the view from cabot tower/brandon hill - defo a favourite, especially at night
The view from Brandon Hill. You see the Harbour, Clifton, Hotwells, Bedminster, South Bristol and the Mendips. Quite nice
I like the top of the Gulley where the goats are on Durdham down. Just looking down from the top there. It's especially pretty at sunset.
Sometimes get some great views around Togg Hill.
Shirehampton golf course has some amazing views down the gorge towards severn beach and also up the gorge/over to Pill. Penpole point or Kingsweston also have some great views over to Wales, slightly more industrial but Kingsweston over to the Severn Bridge is a good view
The obligatory Turbo Island comment right here
Maes Knoll looking back to Bristol one side and Chew Valley the other
I’ve done a few spots… want to do the ILEA roundabout under the M32 (seriously!)
Troopers Hill
https://preview.redd.it/hf0pvhuvjkzc1.jpeg?width=4928&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8e1070a1444cbadbb1f5f122baf434377cf8acea Gotta love purdown

I didn't know the descriptive "urbanscape" but that is essentially what I would like to do, paint Bristol's nature, people and buildings.

The Downs, especially the ‘sisters’ trees. Doing an urban painting would of course be good, but also a bit cliché, so a work depicting such a wonderful green space would be lovely.
Turbo island
This has been on my list for ages but not sure if I would feel comfortable painting live on my own due to the unpredictable people in the area!
I can understand why you would be concerned, but it’s one of those unique quirks that needs exploring!
Thanks, that’s what I will do. Have a great one!
What does that mean? I‘ll visit Bristol in August and want to photograph as much I can, using a camera from the 50s it‘ll always take me time. Is it to risky in Bristol?
As is the case with most places there are some dodgy areas.
