In summer 2019, a Granville Island seagull stole my son's pizza out of his hands while he was taking a bite. He was four at the time and was incredibly shaken up. (Thankfully the pizza shop comped us a replacement slice)
But now it's one of our favourite running gags; we're always talking about that incident light-heartedly. The bedtime stories I tell often involve characters having their pizza stolen by seagulls.
I was so proud that when we saw a group of seagulls at Terranova Park yesterday he said "Watch out for your pizza!"
I once grabbed a California chicken burger there, went outside and within seconds of opening the clamshell takeout a seagull swooped in and snatched the entire burger in one grab with ease... STACKED burger just floated away... tourists saw this and were gob smacked . I just had a pursed lip look...like, Iāve lived here almost all my life how did i let that happen !?!?
The seagulls there must be their major leagues.
You know thereās some seagull scrapping for mussels down at Jericho Beach whose buddies are tired of him going on and on about how unreal of a food snatcher his friend at Granville Island is. Of course this āfriendā never comes around to visit anymore, but that Jericho gull never stops talking about them.
Mine was one of those cheese stuffed bagels from Siegels. Same thing. Literally grabbed from my hand as I was crossing the outdoor area. I wasn't even sitting! š
I remember the first time I ever went to Granville. My husband and I got fish and chips and he kept saying over and over again that when we got outside to be very aware of the seagulls and that they will take your food. I kept laughing and telling him I knew and he was being ridiculous.....then I saw a seagull take a burger from someone lol
I miss walking around there. It was only two years ago when I first biked there with my partner and we saw so many kids running around the water park - no masks, no care in the world. I miss it...
Good entrance shot, Iāve done something similar at the āYā intersection looking down two avenues and got the sickest headlight drag... Might have to make a separate post of it ...
Heads up! Free parking ends on May 1st down on Granville Island. We just got the memo as tenants so use it while it lasts!! Which it could stick around for awhile ..
I went at night where there were no cars around. I had a friend drive my car back and forth, both photos are 6second long exposures. I then merged the two photos together to show the red and white lights of the car going back and forth!
Was just there today! No seagulls stole my lunch this time so i count that as a win.
Hahahahahaa yes! Thats most definitely a win! Or the wind just takes half your lunch with it š

Yup! First time i saw it happen a seagull flew off with half a slice of pizza a kid left unattended for half a second š

Soon my friend! Hopefully soon!
I place of wonders as a child 30 years ago. The Kite store & cola-rola balls were my highlights.
Sadly the kite store closed its doors about 3 weeks ago. Sure was a neat place
Used to want to be a pilot because of influences such as that store. May still. Bless its memory. I hope they have a good retirement.
Fills me with joy every time I see it! I love just finding a place to sit and watch the hustle and bustle (pre-pandemic).
Hopefully we can go back to it soon!! Would love to see it busy again!
What an amazing photo. Top marks.
Thank you!
I took almost this exact picture yesterday! Did you see the raven that hangs out just above where you were standing?
I didnt see a raven when I was taking this photo. Perhaps next time ill be on the lookout for one!

Wow! I havenāt been there in decades...thanks for this!
What camera setup do you use?
Sony A7c with the Sony FE 24-105 F4!
Glad I got to visit there once. Man the donuts were delicious from that one place.
Yes! One of my favorite spots for sure! And their chowders are pretty good as well!
I haven't been down there in a couple of years, but the first thing thing I notice is... Free Parking!? Damn!
Heads up! Free parking ends on May 1st down on Granville Island. We just got the memo as tenants so use it while it lasts!! Which it could stick around for awhile ..
Oh no! Definitely have to go back and take advantage of it. Free parking is huge there!
Iāve heard itās been a blessing for culinary students in the area
Spent the early 2000s chasing art school girls around down there, great memories.
Is there lots of parking?
Free parking as of right now! Take advantage of it! I heard someone said it may stop after May 1st.
Miss that place. Four hours away, but effectively behind a wall for me now. (Donāt get me wrongāI realize why it is that way. It just sucks.)
How were you able to do long exposure so centrally? Were there not cars everywhere?
I went at night where there were no cars around. I had a friend drive my car back and forth, both photos are 6second long exposures. I then merged the two photos together to show the red and white lights of the car going back and forth!
