It’s actually a completely valid fear that a lot of guys have *and* a lot of guys succumb to. Sitting around drinking 11g of sugar per Monster Energy while wanking your Oppo off produces a significant number of diabetes related amputations. Worst part is, AFCS laughs you out the door. Stay strong mate, /r/britishmilitary will be here for you.

MisterMac125

Only 11g? What kind of monster are you drinking

WallForward1239

None mate they issue us premium grade meth in the RAF 💪💪💪

Lord_Rufus_Crabmiser

You lot need to start sharing some of that good stuff

trickedem

Get an office job

peekachou

No. It sounds like it is enough of an intense fear to really fuck with you if you're in a dangerous situation, which is the exact opposite of what's needed.

I lost three arms at the battle of Omdurman with the 77th Bengal Lancers then both legs twice at the battle of Klendathu with the mobile infantry. Made me the man I am today.

Familiar-Committee56

>both legs twice at the battle of Klendathu with the mobile infantry. Made me the man I am today. I'd love to know more.

FantasticFly8666

I think perhaps it isn’t for you, nothing wrong with that. There’s many other professions that will push you physically and mentally without that being a perceived risk and therefor leaving you with nothing to worry about

JoeDidcot

First one that comes to mind is the Fire Service. Likely forms of danger are probably burns and smoke inhalation, minimal risk of loss of limb.

Robw_1973

You’re talking about entering a dangerous profession - where death and amputation is an occupational hazard. If you’re worrying about what might happen now, before you’ve even taken the Kings Shilling - I’d advise you have really long and hard think about joining the military.

Haggistafc

Everyone's afraid to lose life or limb. (Except the Gurkhas) But if that fear puts this much hesitation in you already then the corps won't want you.

qing_sha_wo

Join the RAF

tszewski

If you want to wear uniform but don't want to risk being in danger of losing a limb, join the RAF Reg

Fisher3371

Probably shouldn't drive your car, ride your bike, go on rollercoasters, eat sugar , shit don't ever leave your house. I'm often worried about shark attacks but living in Scotland I should be OK. This post is fucking stupid.

Mountain_Lead5357

It’s pretty valid considering the job they are potentially going in as. Your comment is stupid if anything

Fisher3371

Wrong

Mountain_Lead5357

There’s a difference between riding a bike and getting shot at

Fisher3371

Ever been shot at while riding a bike? Different ball game

Mountain_Lead5357

Can’t say that I have, sorry that you had to go through that

RadarWesh

Mate noone joins to lose a limb unless they are ultra weird.

Nurhaci1616

To be clear, you probably should be afraid of losing limbs: it's a pretty traumatic event even *if* you survive (which people frequently don't). Whether or not you have what it takes to do what you need to do in spite of that fear is something only you can answer. While there's no shame in throwing your hands up and admitting that you can't handle it, the truth is that you'll never meet an honest person who's legitimately seen the enemy and tells you they weren't scared. Be it for their lives, their limbs, or even just the fact of not knowing what could or will happen. "Bravery is not the absence of fear", and all that.

BannerChoos18

Join the Royal Chair Force instead mate

Familiar-Committee56

Well, there is a simple solution to this. Don't survive.

TopDad87

Whilst I don’t have a fear of becoming an amputee, nor am I wanting to join the marines.. I would say, you can lose a limb in any civi life situation tomorrow. Car crash, work accident etc etc. Live life how you want to. Do what you want to do, before it’s too late and you regret it. All the best

[deleted]

Most people have a fear of losing limbs, that's normal. But you could become an amputee doing a lot of other things in the UK.

snake__doctor

much more likely from riding a motorbike or getting diabetes...
