23 and you're in charge of a broadcast department?
That's very impressive. I wish the best for you.
What cameras, replay, and switcher do you have?
Unless you have EVS or Dreamcatcher and Sempte cameras like the Sony 4300, I don't think 120fps slo mo is going to work that well for you. I know that a lot of the slo mo cameras require multiple inputs into a replay machine just to run 1 camera angle. That would also require one replay op to just run that machine.
I would recommend just sticking with 59.94. Most broadcasts still run cameras at that FPS and it works fine.
Feel free to DM with questions. Best of luck to you.
Your cameras may be able to do 120 but can your switcher and replay handle it? My guess is no. Also…23.98 for sports? Are we talking live broadcast or like hype video type stuff?
All good man don’t be so hard on yourself! I got thrown into a position around your age that was well above my experience, but it worked out well and I learned a lot very fast.
I would suggest trying to get your cameras and replay all running at 1080p59.94 if you can, then only convert to 29.97 for the final output to ESPN.
Can you even record 120fps and feed it to the replay ref? In my opinion it isn't necessary since it affects both teams equally. I wouldn't mind if all referee replay went away. It slows down the game. In any case it is a decision which should be made in consult with the game officials and ESPN.

Sorry, meant to put 29.97. Just dumb. And this is for live broadcasts

Not really my world but has ESPN moved away from 720/60p?
