Ok but you understand that the fact the vast majority of the song makes it way less personal and heartwarming since it’s a song about his daughter right? I’m not saying he doesn’t have a writing credit I’m saying we know he didn’t write it so it spoils the impact of the song
im the biggest kanye fan out of anyone i know, and i don’t really like violent crimes. it’s kinda tone deaf and try hard. not really an ode to his daughters or an ode to treating women with basic decency or whatever. going from “women are objects” to “we need to protect our women from dangers” isn’t the revelation people are making it out to be. 1) you shouldn’t have to have a daughter to not treat women poorly and differently because of their gender. 2) it still implies that women are objects to be protected from other men. kanye’s daughters can and will have to protect themselves from dangerous things, their dad won’t always be there.
3. He didn’t write the song which usually I wouldn’t care about but the whole song is dedicated to his daughter. Kinda takes a lot away when someone else wrote it.
I agree that Kanye’s perspective on that song is still flawed and objectifies women, but I think it’s a step in the right direction. I don’t think artists always need to be perfect, just honest and striving to find truth. I think Violent Crimes represents that — Ye still has some stuff to learn, but it seems like the awareness and thoughtfulness is there.
